   While starting to load my vehicle in the grocery store parking lot, and older guy was walking past and said something to me while gesturing vaguely in my direction. I didn’t hear him at first and asked him to say it again. He gestured again and said, “isn’t that thing ugly?” I turned to look and, in a parking spot behind me, was a Tesla. This is a small town, so seeing a Tesla – or any EV – is a rare thing.

   I didn’t take the bait and just shrugged, saying it was a matter of personal taste! He looked at me a bit funny and kept going.

   Before I left, I got a message from home about something I forgot, so I went back into the grocery store. When I came out, a couple was loading their purchases into the Tesla. I just had to stop and ask, because it’s a real issue where we live; how well does it hold a charge in the winter? The guy told me he gets 300km on a charge in the winter – enough to drive to the city, run his errands and get home. He gets 500km in the summer. I asked how long it took to charge, and he said, overnight at home, but only an hour at a charging station in the city. The local grid simply can’t handle EV charging stations.

   Nice couple, and he seemed quite happy to share information about his vehicle. Not something I would personally buy (it couldn’t meet our needs), but he seemed quite happy with it.

   Something the old guy dissing it probably couldn’t handle.
