Good mornin’, Lucille! That was a very interesting article. We had a decent sized Amish population close to where I grew up. I love to learn about their culture. Coffee’s ready!

Good morning, Texan! Contrary to some misconceptions about the Amish, they DO drink coffee, both powdered and home-ground. So, if word gets out, some “differently” dressed and hatted folks just might be stopping by for your brown beverage today.

When I was a child, my family had friends who had been born into the Anabaptist/Mennonite faith, from which the Amish split in the 1600s. They were no longer Mennonites when we met them, but they told us a lot about the different traditions and doctrines they grew up with.

Good mornin’, y’all! Happy Tuesday! I can only hope the tacos are looking better today than yesterday. Going with a spiffy little French press machine this morning. Keep your head on a swivel after that verdict in NY, and Carpe’ your coffee.

Good mornin’, czarina! The luster of the Nobel has certainly worn off since you-know-who won the thing. A little more respect for the science guys who win theirs though. Beer is good, and while I didn’t memorize the system, I knew which aisles to head to first when I was looking for something. Poor kids today have no idea how to work a card catalog either!

Good day, Czarina! Beer is not my thing. The only variety I’ve ever imbibed was a Japanese beer. And that was because my boyfriend in 1975 liked it.

Loved old libraries and sitting at the back of the stacks so you could get away with talking easier.

Probably haven’t visited a library since 2012 or so after they threw out the card catalogue cabinets and put everything on computers. That action totally destroyed the ambiance.

I’m sure there are worthy recipients of the Nobel Prize. Couldn’t name one, though, and had forgotten BHO was gifted a DEI copy until Texan mentioned it…a Peace Prize, no less!! What a joke!

Charlie Kirk Stands with Roger Ver in Exit Tax Case

    https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/12/07/charlie-kirk-stands-with-roger-ver-in-exit-tax-case/

I just watched Tucker Carlson’s interview with Roger Ver, and I learned something new about the U.S. tax code by reading this article, which is:

The core of the government’s case against Roger Ver revolves around something called an “exit tax.” When someone renounces their U.S. citizenship and moves abroad, they are required to pay taxes on their assets as if they had sold everything the day before leaving the country. This is known as a “constructive hypothetical sale,” and the taxes can be enormous, especially for someone with significant assets like Ver.

This is worse than inheritance tax!

Afternoon All. The sky is sometimes clear, and then clouds of all kinds pass over. For some reason I got cold in the middle of the night. The temp is staying around 30*.

Checked out the new apartment yesterday. The place needs some work, paint, etc. and a good cleaning, but they have not finished with it yet. It is supposed to be ready by the 20th, but I did sense some concern in the realtor’s voice. I am not in a hurry, but should probably be because of the threat of bad weather. I think the place should be fine and it is only 15 min from my kid’s house. They are very enthusiastic about it. Oh, and it has washer/dryer hookups. We discussed the 6 to 9 mo. lease and my DIL thought their explanation made sense. The prior tenant lived there 3 years.

Hope things are going well for you all.

Good afternoon, aus! Glad you like the new-to-you apartment. Hope everything goes well. If you don’t already have them, it might be good to buy some furniture tarps in case it’s raining/snowing when moving day arrives.

      Take care!

Good suggestion. I need to talk to my son about what we are going to need for the move. He packed the boxes and the big truck when I moved from Florida. He will have a good idea of what we need. I will need some boxes, although not as many as the big move. I have gotten rid of some things since I have been here. Just not much. 😦

    The Clock Strikes Thirteen

And the Establishment gets washed away by a preference cascade. But it was a damn close-run thing.

    GLENN HARLAN REYNOLDS – DEC 09, 2024

What happened? It’s like a spell broke. Since November’s election (re-election?) of President Donald Trump, the woke is going away, and all sorts of problems are resolving themselves. But why?

There are several reasons, but basically, it’s a preference cascade.

In law we talk about the proverbial thirteenth chime of the clock, which is not only wrong in itself, but which calls into question everything that has come before. Most of our institutions have been chiming thirteen for quite a while, and people have noticed.

But it’s not enough to notice. Soviet citizens knew their system was founded on lies, too, but the system kept them isolated, unaware that so many of their fellow citizens felt the same way, and unable to come together to act.

Trump can fire anybody he wants, thanks to Sean Spicer

    By Paul Bedard

    December 9, 2024 1:34 pm

President-elect Donald Trump is arriving at the White House armed with a legal weapon that will let him fire any of President Joe Biden’s appointees.

Thanks in part to a court fight former Trump White House spokesman Sean Spicer lost over his firing by Biden from a three-year term to the Board of Visitors to the United States Naval Academy, the incoming president will have the legal backing to dump any of Biden’s over 4,000 appointments who try to stick around.
