President Trump has announced the return of Peter Navarro in the role of Senior Advisor for Trade and Manufacturing.
Earlier this year Navarro spent four months in federal prison for refusing to comply with a subpoena from House Democrats about January 6, 2021. Upon release, he spoke at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.

Navarro’s views on trade were considered outside the mainstream of economic thought. He advocated for reducing U.S. trade deficits, criticized Germany and China, and called for increasing the size of the American manufacturing sector. As a vocal opponent of multilateral free trade agreements, he encouraged President Donald Trump to implement protectionist trade policies.
