National Gingerbread Cookie Day – tie the season

National Red Mitten Day – neve wore mittens. Grew up in Miami

National Stuffing Day – make some to be ready for next Thursday. Can’t have too much stuffing.

National Rural Health Day – takes a lot more work to get to healthcare facilities when even the Wall- Mart is 30 minutes away. Lots of people are dependent on family to get to doctors as there is no public transit.

Great American Smokeout – I remember the first one, how many decades ago? Neve smoked so I didn’t have to quit, thank heavens.

In the past Collins has confirmed Dems who were extremely questionable. She’s really a piece of work.

GOP Senator Susan Collins Throws a Wrench in Trump’s Cabinet Plans

By Randy DeSoto, The Western Journal Nov. 21, 2024 6:45 am

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine is calling for “extensive committee investigations” into President-elect Donald Trump’s appointees to oversee health agencies.

Last week, Trump nominated lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

I’m currently in my “I can’t wait to get the last of my fresh ingredients to make my Thanksgiving dishes.” Come Tuesday evening I’ll be in my “I hate holiday cooking” mood. This is a seasonal delight that increases as I age.

I never used to plan so much, to look for new recipes, and look forward to the preparations. And by the same token, I never used to think much about the cooking, I just did it in the best order to get the meal on the table. Now I’ve lost my mind.

I made a shopping list for the remainder of things I need to buy this morning. I also made my cranberry sauce which can be made up to two weeks ahead (so says the recipe.) The house smells like Thanksgiving! I also cut some parsley and sage from my garden and put them in water in the frig. If I don’t do it now, they might get frozen. Come to think of it, I should get some of the chives too.

I also plan to make the make-ahead mashed potatoes again, and I’m thinking of making the green bean casserole at least a day ahead, but bake it on the day.

Now I have to clean (which I REALLY hate.)

I miss cooking Thanksgiving Dinner. I get together with my kids and in-laws, but some of their dishes are different. They are from “up North” and make bread dressing and things like that. LOL. And, they never have enough gravy. But, I am just glad to have them to be with.

Easy cheat on cornbread dressing aus, if you want it. If your grocery store has a deli or food counter like most do, find a couple of cornbread muffins and a biscuit. Buy a frozen package of mirepoix, sauté that in lots of butter and add a can of Campbell’s broth. It’s pretty easy to find some decent smoked or roast turkey in stores.

If your store has chopped onion and celery that’s even easier. All you need is some seasoning.

        Easy individual Thanksgiving.

Thanks, but baking cornbread is the least of the trouble, since we made it 3 o4 times a week all through my childhood. And, I do use canned broth in it. So I will make it if they can’t have dinner. In fact, if they do have everyone for dinner, I may make it and take it with me anyway. I just hope they decide to have a turkey.

Afternoon All. Got several more inches of snow yesterday. The ground is white and the sky is white. A lot of the snow has melted because the temps got up over 35*.

Hope you all stay well and have a nice day.

Good afternoon, Tex, Lucille, Wee, Menagerie, Aus, Czarina and Stella,

Looks like you all have been having fun this morning.

Wee, I first thought that contraption was a water filter! Good thing there’s more coffee left, because it’s apparent I need it.

The photos and the decorations are inspiring. And the cookies, ah the cookies.

Congratulations to all who quit smoking. Having to smoke outdoors made it easier for some of my acquaintances to quit, though I don’t think any of them found it easy.

Have most of my Thanksgiving arranged, but the house cleaning is at hand.

Looks like the opposition to the election results is still opposing, monkeys, wrenches and all.
