Today’s date in 1917, dancer, courtesan and alleged spy Mata Hari is executed for espionage by a French firing squad at Vincennes outside of Paris.

History.com[. . .] It was in the City of Lights that Margaretha Zelle reinvented herself as an artist. Drawing on her experiences in the Dutch East Indies, she developed a “Hindu” dance act and began performing under the name “Lady Gresha MacLeod.” As part of each routine, she would cast off a series of colorful robes and veils until she was left nearly nude. “I never could dance well,” she later admitted. “People came to see me because I was the first who dared to show myself naked to the public.” To add to her mystique, Margaretha adopted the stage name “Mata Hari,” a Malay phrase meaning “eye of the day.”She was a courtesan to famous men, one of the ways she supported herself. These included officers in a variety of country’s armies. This eventually got her into trouble in WWI, and a French policeman decided to nail her for espionage. Was she guilty? I think the evidence was thin, but you can decide for yourself. Nevertheless, she was convicted and executed.

Good mornin’, and Happy Taco Tuesday. This is listed as a vintage espresso maker, and I have no idea how this thing works………..but it’s funky and so are we, in our own special way. Keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel. Carpe your coffee.

A cast-iron skillet is the perfect tool for baking jalapeño Cheddar cornbread: It gives the cornbread a perfectly crisp crust and a bit of extra flavor as the butter browns in the skillet right before adding the batter.

On the road again. Indiana to Michigan. Another long bus ride day. Someone told me it is a “coach” which does sound a little classier.

Diversion at the Henry Ford Museum this afternoon.

Stumbled across some interesting knowledge in the wee hours this morning. Know who the last Confederate general to surrender was? Brigadier General Stand Watie, a Cherokee. The Cherokee had a treaty with the Confederacy, and they were committed, and often very cruel, slaveholders.

When the war started there were around 4,600 slaves. They did not recognize the Emancipation Proclamation and their slaves were not freed when the others were.

But none of that is being taught now, because, you know, poor Native Americans.

We can’t just live in a world where all people are good and bad, and have histories that reflect that. Nope, somebody writes a script, and we must not deviate.

I’d heard of Stand Watie, but never looked him up. We know quite a bit about Chief John Ross around here because we’re only a few miles from Rossville, GA and the cabin he build is still there.

I am astounded by all the lies from the left. they promise something and if that doesn’t work they just go on to promise the opposite.

hope you all have a nice day.

When a politician wants to give out “forgivable loans” what exactly does that mean? And only to one group of people, not everyone. I went to a state university, so I’m not real smart. Use small words, please.
