8 Longest Yard Sales In The South To Put In Your Calendar
Miles and miles of uniques and antiques!
By Jennifer Prince – Published on May 16, 2024
Planning a Southern road trip typically involves wandering through historic towns, driving along the coastline, or getting lost in the mountains. While these trips are highly anticipated and include stops at shops, restaurants, and historic sites, choosing to take a yard sale-centric road trip can open your eyes to the unexpected.

Good day, Stella! Just an ordinary, humble bloke who found it hard to step out from the crowd until the day he arrived at the audition. Simon and the others know a feel-good story with a great voice when they see and hear one.

National Game Show Day – Remember a Hollywood Squares? Wasn’t that fun?
National Black Bear Day – celebrate or honor them anywhere but my yard…
National Nail Polish Day – pink or red, never green or blue, never black!
National Prairie Day – there are a few places of original prairie in Kansas or Nebraska
National Play Outside Day – between the raindrops today
National Bubbly Day – celebrate SOMETHING!
National Hazelnut Cake Day – sounds good with morning coffee!

Afternoon All. 55*, somewhat overcast, and only a light breeze today. Nice day for a walk.
My grandkids came over yesterday. I had them do a couple of quick chores for me that I have trouble doing. They did them quickly and cheerfully. So sweet. Then, they went out to play and a two year (all boy) neighbor’s child came out. He loves my girls. They were playing with small badminton rackets. I saw him pick one up and watched him because a lot of little boys at that age would have whacked one of the girls over the head with it. LOL. But, he didn’t. He is a sweet boy and loves hugs.
Finally got my sewing machine out. I have some mending, etc. to do. Gotta get to it.
Hope you all are safe and have a nice day.

Good afternoon, aus! What a precious little neighbor boy. Be fun to get some photos of him playing with your granddaughters.

Gorgeous day so far. Been raining for days, with the thunderstorms bringing down cold air, so again this morning it was cool, and now there is a stiff breeze. Bright sun out, but not yet 90*. I mowed the lawn close to the house (too soppy wet farther out), and had a nice ride.
Need to pick the few ripe blueberries, so that’ll make a nice dessert. There are many green ones, so I guess I’ll be busy next week when they all ripen. Seem to be late this year, as I recall picking at the end of May before.

Amtrak Is Having A Major Sale Right Now And Kids Ride Free!
Consider the Auto Train for your next trip to Florida.

Lucille, you live in this general area. Where would you pick up the train to go to Florida? I think I checked once and had to go through Chicago.

I checked from here once, and it’s not a convenient trip. From here we go to D.C., with a big layover, then direct to Florida. You would probably take the Empire Builder from Whitefish to Chicago, then to D.C., then to Florida.
I checked the Amtrak site, and that is what they recommend. See their travel planning map.

Unfortunately my Amtrak riding was only in California. Used to love train travel. I’ve never checked schedules since living in Idaho because such travel is out for me nowadays. My vacation earlier this year was all by car with plenty of stops.

I traveled from Florida to Norfolk, VA several times on Amtrak. I decided to try it instead of flying. I liked it somewhat, but there were so many stops and so many people getting off and on. And, we had an incident where one woman pitched a fit because a conductor who was new, told her the stop was not a smoking stop and she missed it. It was only 15 minutes to the next one, but she just couldn’t let it go and went on and on until at the next stop the cops came on and took her off. It was a little scary. I was the only white person on our car. All my seat mates were very nice and friendly, but they changed every stop or two. It was a long tiring trip. I don’t think I would want to travel that way unless I could get a room.

Here is the routing. I selected July 1 as a start date. The trip is on 3 trains for a total of 73 or 74 hours. One way coach fare is just under $500.

When I took the Empire Builder to Portland OR and back, I booked coach on the way out and got a roomette on the way back. If you travel coach, get a seat on the lower level, where there is no through traffic in the car, and the bathrooms are on that level. Much quieter and more convenient. At the time, it cost me about $500 more to get the roomette on the way back. That was in 2012.

PS: I left from Chicago, not from Detroit.

I’m sorry. I didn’t really mean for anyone to spend time researching. I would love to go on a train trip , but I don’t have any money at all to go. I was just curious.
