Good mornin’, and happy Friday kids! We’ve come to the end of another week of FJB. I think we need a pretty good-sized pot of coffee this morning. Come grab a cup and carpe something.

A very interesting read about the origins of some of our more intrusive “social media” companies. Apparently, their Chamber of Commerce press releases on their humble beginnings may not be all that accurate.

For example, did you know that Jeff Bezos’ granddad was one of the first to actually develop the internet, and work for the precursor of DARPA. Or that Google started out as a DARPA funded project for the NSA and CIA. There are more examples in the article.

I know that I’ve heard rumblings about some of this, and just because this article was printed, that doesn’t mean that it’s all true, but what do you think?

Czar told me about this. He studied computer science in the early 70’s, and used ARAPNET in the Army. It was their internal internet before growing to what we were aware of in the 80’s.

So it’s very likely that all of these major social media companies have all come out of the swamp. There was even mention of one company that stopped operations on the same day, or day before F*cebook “started”. Some of them before 9/11, and what appear to be the really slimy ones after that date. But they sure have figured out multiple ways to spy on every single one of us in some form or fashion.

It’s true. I once read a really interesting article in one of the computer magazines about a guy who worked on the early net in a university in Cali, and how he discovered a computer spy who was operating out of East Germany. I think it was from a book called “The Cuckoo’s Nest”.

Correction: It was “The Cuckoo’s Egg”.

Cliff Stoll was an astronomer turned systems manager at Lawrence Berkeley Lab when a 75-cent accounting error alerted him to the presence of an unauthorized user on his system. The hacker’s code name was “Hunter”—a mysterious invader who managed to break into U.S. computer systems and steal sensitive military and security information. Stoll began a one-man hunt of his own: spying on the spy. It was a dangerous game of deception, broken codes, satellites, and missile bases—a one-man sting operation that finally gained the attention of the CIA . . . and ultimately trapped an international spy ring fueled by cash, cocaine, and the KGB.

    National Goof Off Day

National West Virginia Day- note this is a place nobody goes on the map above. Seems to need some promotion.

National Bavarian Crepes Day – Bavarian crepes are a delicious, very thin pancake-like dessert. They are typically made from wheat flour or buckwheat flour, then filled, rolled, and then often topped with a glaze, fruit, chocolate or whipped cream. In Bavaria, crepes are called palatschinke. While similar to a French crepe, the Bavarian crepe batter doesn’t need to rest before using.

TV news just said this is also National Water Day

Since it is reining fairly hard right now, I’ll just look out the window and not go outside to celebrate water.

Consuming Bavarian crepes while goofing off in West Virginia sounds like something you do when celebrating water at the beautiful Stonewall Jackson Lake Wildlife Management Area….

Afternoon All. Well, we didn’t get up until 10:30 and it was 47* then. It did snow last night, evidently, because there were small patches here and there of tha spagm (or whatever that small round stuff is called). There is a thin cloud cover, too.

All my kiddies are sick with colds. My DIL and I both have sore throats, not the sinus drainage type, but more like glands. I have had it all week, but it started getting better yesterday. Boy, am I tired of being sick. I almost never got sick in Florida. Of course, I wasn’t around any little ones. I will take this sickness.

    Hope you all stay well.

Trump Says He Has $500 Million Cash as Bond Deadline Looms

He says money meant for his campaign will now have to be used in his legal case.

    By Catherine Yang – 3/22/2024

This comes as the former president needs to put up upwards of $454 million to stay judgment in his civil fraud case while he appeals—to effectively hold off the New York Attorney General from potentially seizing his buildings during the appeal.

IDF Comes Across Luxury Apartments in Khan Yunis for Hamas Big Shots

MAR 20, 2024 2:00 PM BY HUGH FITZGERALD

As is well known, the senior leadership of Hamas takes good care of itself. Just three of its leaders — Ismail Haniyeh, Mousa Abu Marzouk, and Khaled Meshaal — have between them squirreled away $11 billion, stolen from the aid money that was meant for the people of Gaza. They all now live in lavish apartments in Doha, Qatar, watching the war from a safe distance, while egging on those who are doing the real fighting, and dying.
