In the summer of 2020, many observers noticed strong parallels between the George Floyd movement and China’s 20th-century Cultural Revolution. 

Public humiliations? Check. Societal atonements? Each had that, too. Both America’s BLM awakening and China’s Maoism revival sent their countries into cultlike frenzies centered around hostility towards the “others.”
