    The coyotes are hungry……Last year I built a door over a small 2 x 2 opening to protect the ferals & their food & water from the dog packs that were roaming around town. During the winter, I woke to find the door had been cracked in half and there were coyote tracks all over the ground. This summer, I built a new door out of 3/4″ plywood and used a 1/2″ bamboo pole and brackets as the closure device.

    Yesterday I awoke to the door hanging wide open and went out to examine the damage. Coyote tracks all over the place and the bamboo pole had been chewed into three pieces and thrown into the snow.

    I took off the small 1/2 brackets that held the bamboo pole and added 1″ brackets and a 1″ dowel along with a hook at the top of the door. The ferals had obviously gone into hiding and at least 5 of them showed up when I refilled the food and water bowels. I’m hoping that the coyotes didn’t get any of the ferals, but I didn’t see a sign of a massacre, so I think the kittehs all survived.

    Coyotes can chew through bamboo…who knew.
