Good morning everyone! Hope your Christmas preparations are well under way.

Though Moses was not permitted to enter the land of promise, he was vouchsafed a sight of it from a distance. We too, though as yet we are not admitted to heavenly glory, yet are given to see much, in preparation for seeing more.

    —St. John Henry Newman
quoted in the book, Parochial and Plain Sermons

Gasp! Gasp! Coffee T, need coffee!

Good afternoon, Menagerie. Thanks for that wonderfully profound bit of thinking by St. John Henry Newman. Reminds me of I Corinthians 2:9 (which refers back to Isaiah 64:4): “However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen,
 what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived—
the things God has prepared for those who love him’….”

Have fun preparing earthly goodies for Christmas.

National Pfeffernusse Day – Dutch cookie. Traditional methods included various nuts such as almonds and walnuts. Some modern recipes exclude nuts altogether along with the black pepper, retaining only cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and cardamom as flavorings. Bakers also use molasses and honey to sweeten the cookie

National Roots Day -I recall some of ya’all do genealogy

Festivus – from a Seinfeld episode.

Good day, Czarina! The time slot for SEINFELD was inconvenient as was most everything else on TV weekday evenings during the years the show was on, due to my mother’s ill health. I was just too busy. The Festivus clips were very funny. I’ll have to find the entire episodes and watch them for the first time.

The paternal side of my family is big on genealogy. What I got from them I’ve passed down to my sister’s children. Maternal side info came mostly from my Mom. Both sides of the family came to the U.S. in the late 1700s and both prospered. Too bad none of the money was ever passed on to me…LOL!

Haven’t heard of Pfeffernusse but I like the idea of black pepper in most anything. Cookies wouldn’t be any different.

      MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Remember when the Director of the Eff-Bee-Eye categorically denied that his henchmen were not really going after Catholics and it was only in one location, and immediately stopped and all that……………..apparently, he may have misspoken.

Good morning! Christmas is almost here, and most of us are busy with last-minutes tasks to prepare for the big day and visiting friends and relatives.

It is relatively warm and raining here, and supposed to continue raining for a couple of days. Not very Christmasy at all.

Afternoon All. Yucky Day. It is heading to 40* with an ugly sky. The weather guessers say there will be no snow………….but what do they know. They are even predicting sun next week. Really? That would be nice.

I got the shot in my eye yesterday. This one seemed worse than the others. It appears that somehow my cornea got scratched or something. I did call the doctor and was told that is what it sounded like and to call back today if it wasn’t better. It is much better, but it is still uncomfortable and my vision isn’t back to normal. So, I am trying to read with my left eye which works pretty well if I close my right eye. I just wish I had an eye patch. That would help. I knew getting the shot so close to Christmas was a mistake. 🙄

I see what looks like lots of rain coming across the middle of the country. Hope you all have a nice Christmas anyway.

      Excerpt from the article:

(this makes me want to bang my head against the wall, I think)

“Usually, the disease is not a public health issue in Chicago, as most locals are vaccinated.

“However, it may be a challenge within immigrant shelters and camps. This is so because many of the migrants came into the country illegally and did not go through any medical screening.” (ya think????)

      ——-

I don’t know which is worse–the fact that this is happening or the fact that someone thought it needed to be explained…….

I am no genius, but I knew this was a given. It just took time for someone to write about it. I am sure there will be an article on TB soon because there is no question it is coming.

Last July 4, I was at a community picnic, getting acquainted with one of my neighbors from a couple blocks over.

Her work was as a nurse/medical practictioner of some kind, responsible for tracking information and treatments for diseases such as TB for the county.

Central Oregon here (Willamette Valley/Marion County)….in response to my questions, she shared that more and more of their time is being taken up with tracking TB carriers and those with active TB.

She described it as an impossible job because once they identified active TB and started treatment, they cannot get that person to be compliant with treatment, continue treatment, show up for appointments, etc. so the majority of their time is spent attempting to chase down TB-carriers and non-compiant patients…and it’s all on an escalating pattern.

The first paragraph of a CNN article (spotted at MSN) reads like this:

“(a).driver died in Los Angeles County early Friday after his vehicle hydroplaned and crashed before submerging in water from heavy rainfall in parts of Southern California.” In other words–BAD vehicle.

    What they meant to say:

“In spite of constant seasonal warnings about the dangers, a driver was speeding on water-covered paved surfaces. He completed the formula for hydroplaning and he crashed. He is dead now because he was driving too fast for conditions. He should have known better.”
