Good afternoon, Texan! These scenes bring back Christmas memories of my childhood in San Bernardino County, CA. Many cities had Christmas parades and were specifically called that since wokism wasn’t even dreamed of then. And decorations were everywhere. We all had a happy feeling of community and togetherness. Much missed today.

In the mid-1960s, The Star of Bethlehem parade was still held in the San Fernando Valley in CA–north and south for a long way on Van Nuys Blvd touching Van Nuys, Panorama City, and maybe a bit of N. Hollywood.
Each of the churches and charitable clubs would have a float, many of them designed over a period of years and slight changes made from year to year, featuring every and any aspect of the birth and ministry of Jesus Christ.
One of the first years we were there, my late husband was chosen to be Simon Peter on a float featuring the 12 disciples. He was a broad-shouldered Swedish-Norwegian, and could easily appear to be the big, brawny fisherman….beards provided (or home-grown), long flowing striped robes….and lots of recorded music emanating from each float.
Another favorite memory I have from those years that we lived in Van Nuys was this: every year the night before Thanksgiving, he would bundle up our boys, little at the time, and take them to the wonderful Christmas-season-launching parade on Hollywood Blvd….it gave the three of them a great evening out, and left me home alone to be able to focus on preparing the full Thanksgiving dinner, with all the goodies.
Such good memories. My boys, now in their mid-50s, still talk about going to the Christmas parade in Hollywood with dad.
Who knew that the ’60s would be the good old days…..in this particular ways….try that today and the perverts and moslems would run everybody down with a vehicle or just blow them up.

Wonderful memory, Sharon! Reminding me of our little rural elementary school in the Santa Monca mountains putting on the annual Christmas Story performance in the auditorium, complete with costumes and we in the choir singing all the caroles between scenes. Magical…year after year! [sigh! 🙂 ]

Hi, Sharon! I well and happily remember the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Always enjoyable as was having dinner somewhere on the boulevard.

Good mornin’, Miss Wee! Since the Bee seems to be about two weeks ahead of reality, I would be keeping an eye on any old Canadian friends we might have. Coffee’s on the way!

Sometimes blind rage is a good thing. As in the d’s throwing RFK, Jr. under the bus. One school of thought is that this might just get DJT back into the White House. I know there are many divergent views, but this one is based on polling numbers that continue forward in a positive vein for us.

Good mornin’, czarina. I ‘ll let y’all have the oatmeal and I’ll stick with the candy. 😉

Just finished my bowl of oatmeal – with the raisins, the cinnamon, the brown sugar, and the chunks of apple. Fine way to start a day–my mother was right: it sticks to your ribs.
That was the ceremonial breakfast for nine months of the year in our farmhouse, beginning on the first day of school….

We eat oat groats (lightly milled), and I eat mine with maple syrup and soymilk, but my better half adorns his with:
– Hemp Hearts
– Turmeric
– Black Pepper
– Ginger
– Maple syrup
– Soy milk

Good maple syrup is a wonderful addition to any dish, in my opinion! It wasn’t until my older brother gifted me with some directly some trees in Vermon a few years that I realized it is sort of its own food group! Yummy.

Good evening, Czarina! Oatmeal muffins…can’t say that they’re a fav. As for candy, I prefer gooey and chewy…so apparently there are a number of things “not to like today.”

Afternoon All. Got up this morning to 24*and snow on the ground. I think it is what you call a dusting. It is also gray overcast and foggy off in the distance.
Not much going on. I still have a few gift cards to buy for nieces and nephews in Florida and some packages to wrap, but other than that I am mostly done
Hope you all are finishing up your Christmas chores.

Good afternoon, aus! We’re at 38 degrees and sorta spitting wetness which is supposed to be snow. I’m having a fun time staying inside watching old movies and trying to stay away from the online sales of items I don’t really need.

Another Biden Scandal Might Be Brewing
By Spencer Brown – December 19, 2023 11:45 AM
In a new letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, a bipartisan group of lawmakers from both chambers of Congress is demanding answers regarding U.S. companies that were apparently allowed by the Biden administration to export technology to entities in adversarial foreign countries — entities with products currently being used in attacks against America’s international partners.
