Stellars, enjoy your Friday traveling to peaceful U.S. mountain towns….
Catskill, New York…
Truckee, California…
Sun Valley, Idaho…
Ellijay, Georgia…

Morning Lucille. Wow, I’ve actually been to two of these towns! One we visit frequently.
Ellijay is always a beautiful trip, but especially fun in the fall. In addition to the fall colors, Ellijay is an apple town. There are many festivals and things for the kids to enjoy, as well as many orchards with barns full of varieties of apples, and homemade jams, jellies, fried pies, and about anything you can name made from apples, including everyone’s favorite, apple butter. There are barns and orchards outside town for miles around.
What you see above in the picture is a part of the heart of the little town, the square. There’s a winery, a number of restaurants, some really neat antique stores, and shops featuring handmade furniture, arts, crafts, clothes. There used to be a huge year round Christmas store in a large old Victorian house.
Some of my favorites treasures I furnished our cabin with came from Ellijay. There are many outdoor adventure opportunities as well, especially hiking, camping, and rafting. Lots of wonderful cabins for rentals.
If you ever get a chance, it’s a place worth visiting. There are well known touristy places in our mountains around here, like Gatlinburg in Tennessee. While many enjoy the town, it’s entirely a marketing adventure for visitors.
Places like Ellijay of course make money from tourism, and have many businesses that depend on visitors. But somehow, that’s still a sideline, and the little towns remain, at heart and in architecture and the slow beat of daily life, just a picturesque small Southern town where you go set a spell and sip sweet tea in a shady spot while the world races by outside.
That’s the magic! When you visit these places you step off the porches onto the wide, wide sidewalk and look around expecting to see the beautiful old cars from the forties, women in sharp dresses and hats, escorted by gentlemen with a crease in their slacks and bright white shirts.

Good morning, Menagerie! How lovely that you know Ellijay! Your description of the town is so very appealing. Thanks so much!

Mornin’, WeeWeed! Sickening personality, literally. His voters have to be the most mindless in history. They aren’t even willing to investigate the information presented which shows his corruption…the proverbial stick-your-fingers-in-your-ears and go “Na, na, na, na, na!” Brainless wonders, the lot of ’em…and that’s being kind!
I’ve been up since 4:30 AM today with various ailments which were driving me nuts with the discomfort. But there’s nothing like the discomfort of knowing our country is being decimated by these Dem fools. I just may have to stay away from politics for a while or everything just may drive me over a cliff.

Feel the same way, Lucille. My 92-year old FIL has the right attitude, though: “I’m just not going to worry about it.” He lives in today [but is very well informed on what’s going on].

National Waterpark Day and National Milk Chocolate Day – I could appreciate both
Buffalo Soldiers Day
World Conservation Day and World Hepatitis Day
National System Administrator Appreciation Day, National Talk in an Elevator Day, National Get Gnarly Day – not much enthusiasm for these

Oh, you might want to get ready for Sunday, National Cheesecake Day

Excellent! For once, I may have my eating plans coincide with the right day–I’ve been enjoying having many pounds of freshly-picked blueberries the last couple of weeks. Just got back from the store now where I picked up a plain cheesecake (easy-make) mix so I could use some of the blueberries there. Maybe I’ll just save it until Sunday.
I also found large eggs for $1.54/doz. I found that to be a really nice surprise. My excitement about that is a sign of the times.

I’ll just leave this right here…

When it comes to blueberries, I just can’t resist something with lemon, especially lemon curd. I’d probably just use a store bought angle food cake and concentrate on the berries, cream, and lemon curd.
We have a group of Seventh Day Adventists who have this wellness center out in the country about 15 minutes away. They have great fruits and vegetables, and I got lots of berries.
We polished off the strawberries, and I am working on the blueberries, my own favorite.

An interesting combo of national days. The National Talk in an Elevator Day reminds me of two encounters when I was working at Universal Studios in the 1960s and 70s. One was: I got into an elevator and the only other person in the car was John Cassavetes, the actor/director. He was wonderful in ROSEMARY’S BABY. He looked at me and said, “I love your glasses.” I had on some very fashionable granny glasses. I said to him, “I love your acting.”
The other was both rather outrageous and hilarious. I rushed to get an elevator on the ground floor that was packed with folks coming up from the parking garage reserved for only high-placed executives. At the last second, a staff support gal who had been absent from work several days popped in the car. I said, “Oh, we missed you. Hope everything is OK.” She was a person who often said truly shocking things in public and this time was no exception. “Oh, I’m fine now. It was just (and then she mentioned an std, which I will NOT mention).” I looked at her with mouth agape. The elevator was totally quiet and then everyone burst into such immense laughter that I’m sure they remembered the incident for many days afterwards.

Elevator day reminds me of a favorite joke:
A fifteen year old Amish boy and his father were in a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.
The boy asked, ‘What is this Father?’
The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, ‘Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don’t know what it is.’
While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a very old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially.
They continued to watch until it reached the last number …and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order.
Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out.
The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son…..
‘Go get your Mother’

Isn’t it fun! Haven’t a clue how I found the website, likely from just rummaging around the ‘net one day. Though I don’t cook much anymore, I still love to read articles/recipes and view accompanying photos.

If anybody is interested in the meatballs, here is a recipe I made for years for office functions, and they always disappear. You don’t have to pre-brown the meatballs, and they cook completely in the oven. You can use pre-made frozen meatballs, but I don’t think they are as good.
Meatballs
1-1/2 to 2 lbs very lean ground beef
¾ cup plain bread crumbs (you could use rolled oats or cornflake crumbs instead)
1 large egg
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Sauce
14 oz can cranberry sauce (whole berry or jellied)
12 oz bottle Heinz chili sauce (NOT spicy Asian type sauce)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 TB lemon juice
8 oz can of pineapple tidbits, drained (This is optional; I never did it, but it could be good)
Preheat oven to 325°.
Make meat mixture and form into walnut-sized balls. Place in a single layer in a baking pan (or pans) with sides.
Mix the sauce ingredients and heat together. Pour over meatballs.
Bake until done, 30-45 minutes (I think). Check periodically and don’t let them burn.
They can be transferred to a slow cooker for serving. You can also cook the entire thing in the slow cooker for 3-4 hours or so on high. This works best with the frozen meatballs. I always used the oven and homemade meatballs.

Thanks Lucille! We have a potluck monthly at our church. I’m always looking for recipes to try out for it. Hopefully maybe I can be back there for it by next month. I’m going to miss it tomorrow.

Which candidates for President does the Secret Service protect?
In regard to presidential campaign, the Secret Service is authorized by law (18 United States Code § 3056) to protect:
Major presidential and vice presidential candidates and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election. As defined in statute, the term “major presidential and vice presidential candidates” means those individuals identified as such by the Secretary of Homeland Security after consultation with an advisory committee.
The Secret Service provides protection for major candidates, unless declined.
The Secret Service has no role in determining who is to be considered a major candidate. The Secretary of the Homeland Security determines who qualifies as a major candidate and when such protection should commence under the authority of Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056.
This determination is made in consultation with an advisory committee comprised of the following individuals:
Speaker of the House
House Minority Whip
Senate Majority Leader
Senate Minority Leader
One additional member chosen by the committee

Mornin’ All. It has cooled off a little bit, in the low 50’s on my patio and nice and warm in the sun and the sky is clear blue. Another beautiful day.
I had an appt. yesterday with a dermatologist. LOL. But, she looked like a teenager to me. She is very pretty with long blond hair and just looks young. She did not act young, that wasn’t it. In fact she seemed very mature and knowledgeable. I guess I am getting old.
Well, please stay safe and enjoy the day.

She may have “had work done”, being as to how she is in the “skin game”.

Hi mom! Seems that as we get older, most people are younger than we are, especially those who are still working! I went to get my eye exam yesterday. The doctor and all of the technicians are younger than I.

I think it is definitely that I am just older. She didn’t look like someone who has had work done and she seemed too serious to bother with that. I have never been to a dermatologist who was so helpful before.

I had to go have blood drawn this afternoon, so I decided to swing by one of the apartment complexes that I had tried to contact since it was only 5 min away from where I was going. The times that the manager was supposed to be there according to the internet was from 9 AM to 3PM. So, I got there at 2:30. There was a sign on the door that said “closed” with a cardboard clock next to it with “Back at 1:30″on it. It was 2:30 and no one was there. I hung around for another 20 min since I had the time and nobody showed up. No wonder I can’t get ahold of anybody.
