Happy Monday, Stellars! What was happening on July 10th in the 1960s? Have a fun time reminiscing.

1962 – The Telstar Communications satellite was launched. The satellite relayed TV and telephone signals between Europe and the U.S.

1962 – Fred Baldasare swam the English Channel underwater. It was 42 miles and took 18 hours.

1962 – ” The Stripper ” by David Rose & His Orchestra was a #1 hit in July 1962. In one of those serendipities of life, Rose had recorded the song in 1958 but laid it aside. Four years later MGM was set to release his next song, “Ebb Tide”, and had to find a “B” side song. And out of the trunk came “The Stripper.”

1965 – “I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones was THE hit July 10-31.

1969 – The National League was divided up into two baseball divisions.

We were a cut below that! I was the automatic dishwasher, LOL. There was that ringer washer/dryer thingy, too. Coal furnaces yet. Monday was a typical wash day with clothes lines outdoors. Every Monday at 11AM the air raid siren went off! Nightly news had on it’s 7PM do you know where your kids are? Dad always reminded, “when the street lights came on you better be heading home!” Yeah, I remember those days!

Good day, Pa! I grew up in the 40s-50s. During those years we never had machines for dishwashing either, and Mom still had a wringer type clothes washer in the garage with easy access to the backyard clothes lines–which had large items like sheets and blankets or throw rugs on the outside lines with the unmentionables in the center to protect neighborhood sensibilities…LOL! Living in California we didn’t have bad winters and furnaces were either electrical or gas and seldom used.

After numerous years in the countryside we moved closer to town and began walking to school rather than riding the school bus. I remember only a couple bad rains which would have soaked us through except for the plastic raincoats and umbrellas plus rubber galoshes we used.

It was pretty-much middle class with a few folks a bit better off with quite successful dairies, farms and businesses. It was a big Future Farmers of America area and the boys proudly wore their FFA emblems on their jackets. I don’t recall ever bringing up politics and religion was only discussed among those of like beliefs. It seemed a much simpler time but, of course, there was a lot more going on under the surface than we realized.

By February 1963 I was out on my own living in the big city of Los Angeles and didn’t leave until 2008. The simple life was long gone.

Room for all kinds of celebrations, czarina. Never met a town crier nor had a Pina colada. As for “Global Energy Independence Day”…what a laugh! Include me in the chronic disease category, and reading that it’s National Clerihew Day is the first I’ve ever heard the word, let alone know what it means…learn something new every day.

I slept well, so got up late. It is now 10:30 and 70*. There is a pretty blue sky with white clouds here and there. I love this weather.

I am feeling much better and breathing better already this morning. I can’t believe the medicine worked that fast, but I am grateful. I wasn’t feeling too bad, but I was starting to have pain in my sinuses and managed to sleep better with it all clear.

I am still waiting to hear something about the apartment. The man who is living there now is supposed to move out this coming weekend. Cross your fingers that it all works out.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Good day, aus! I’m hearing thunder and the sky is darkening; so rain appears to be on the way here. Maybe I’ll set some of the indoor plants outdoors for a little natural water from the sky.

      Take care!

Well, enjoy the storm if you get it. One thing I have missed is the Florida storms. They could be pretty extreme at times, but I enjoyed the rain and thunder.

Rather disturbing that the cocaine owner has not been identified.

Govt is lucky it was cocaine this time. Imagine the national security risk of not knowing how a powdered substance was delivered so close to the president.

What if the substance had been a bio weapon?

    • Lucille's avatar Lucille says:

So are so very right, Monroe, that the substance could have been a bio weapon. It’s obvious they know every single person who entered the White House during the timeframe.

This is what the White House website says re entry to the WH:

“All U.S. citizens ages 18 and older, and foreign nationals of all ages (including children), must present a valid, government-issued photo ID upon arrival for their tour.”

I’ve also read that tours are set up via Congressional representative offices.

Bidenhandlers have no interest whatsoever in telling us the truth about this incident. Imo, they definitely know who brought in the illegal substance and are, as usual, protecting the criminal. They wouldn’t be interested in protecting a stranger; so we know it’s not an outsider but a CLOSE insider. And family does not have to go through inspection procedures before they enter the WH.

Gotta believe THEY KNOW who the guilty Party is! If exposed, the whole sha-bang will get exposed. Too much corruption to expose! More than likely, the family gets in without a search! Which one is a known coke head? Dazzle with brilliance or baffle with bullshit? We aren’t getting dazzled here! Camera’s everywhere in the WH!

The Senate Races Set Up Dems for Delicious Agony
    Kurt Schlichter – July 10, 2023

With the spectacle of kaiju candidates Ronzilla and King Don flattening Tokyo as they battle it out for the presidential nomination, it’s no surprise that the Senate races are getting short-shrift. But don’t overlook them – look the hell out of them. These are hugely important because a Senate majority provides a critical bulwark – not the sissy dork kind but the real kind – against total Dem dominance if we lose our razor-thin House majority and if we nominate a presidential candidate who can’t get it done in the general. We have a very good map this cycle – we can’t blow it again.

Please note that I’m not endorsing everything Schlichter is saying here. I don’t read his every column like I once did. His views are influential, though, and being aware of them gives us an idea of what President Trump is up against. Too many conservatives believe our President’s influence is on the wane.

Pretty amazing, but definitely not my style. I don’t care for floors over 4 in a building. I could just picture airplanes flying into those windows. Good thing, huh? I can’t afford even the toilet paper there, I am sure.

I have to share this. I placed a large order with Instacart for Walmart this morning. The reason it was large is because they are currently offering a $50 discount on orders over $100 placed through Instacart. I took advantage of this discount earlier this month too.

Anyway, the ditsy shopper I had made two mistakes:

    1. Charged me an additional $125 for cat food ordered by another customer. She assured me that I wouldn’t be charged and that it was a glitch. I was charged.
    2. She apparently delivered my order to another person, unknown. I never received even one item that I ordered, plus I was charged an additional $125, plus additional tax AND tip!

I spent some time with customer service, and they are supposedly going to deliver my order tomorrow afternoon, and credit my card for the additional charges.

We will see. What a mess!

That was 66 pounds of cat food that she charged me for – three 22 lb. bags. It would take my cat years to eat that much.

That’s terrible, Stella! I was considering using Instacart rather than Walmart which has fine delivery service but not always the freshest produce. So now maybe I’ll hold off until I hear whether customer service came through for you in a timely manner or not.

One thing I like about Walmart is they take photos of where they drop off the delivery so you have proof of same. Plus if you have a problem, you go online and report it and will be refunded within minutes.

I have had excellent experiences with Instacart customer service in the past, and I imagine I will this time too, but I’ll let you know. Usually they take a pic of the delivery, but this woman did not. She just marked the order as “delivered”. I think she probably delivered to the same number address, but on a different street.

I like Instacart because I have a variety of stores to pick from – dozens, actually, including drug stores, pet stores etc. I often order from Aldi, Kroger and from Meijer (a local chain similar to Walmart). There are also fruit and veg markets, and stores like Gordon Food Service.
