US Coast Guard update on search for missing Titanic submersible

The US Coast Guard holds a press conference about the search for the missing submersible in Boston at about noon ET.

The French vessel carrying what is thought to be the only underwater vehicle capable of rescuing the passengers onboard the missing Titan submersible is expected to arrive on Wednesday evening.

The French research craft L’Atalante has the Victor 6000 on board – a remote operated vehicle (ROV) that can reportedly reach depths of 20, 000 ft. There are hopes that the Victor 6000 may be able to fix a cable onto the submersible before it is hauled to the surface.

There are reportedly at least five vessels at the Titanic wreck site, according to Sky News. Four other ships looked unlikely to arrive until Thursday, Sky said.

Guess I don’t understand what was so exciting to see about the Titanic that would be worth risking your life and spending that much money.

I would hope that if I had that much money that I would use it for the betterment of humanity. I could understand if they were exploring for the sake of improving our knowledge of our world. This seems like expensive gawking at a car accident that happened a long time ago.

I hope for the best and that they are rescued alive.
