Whoops, this is the Durango & Silverton….

The mistakenly posted train is the Colebrookdale in Pennsylvania.

Such handsome trains. When they went to streamlined and sleek, they lost charm.

And folks seem to like riding on the older trains more than the new ones when the purpose is to have fun and not for rapid transit. Nostalgia can be both a stimulant to the mind and a relaxant to the body.

I have taken the D&S several times. It’s a beautiful part of the world, and I recommend it highly. Silverton is a beautiful little town in the mountains and Durango, though larger, is a typical Western town.

          Sounds so pleasant, Stella.

          Here’s Silverton…just the kind of old-fashioned town I love….

          And Durango is quite similar….

The first time I was there, in Silverton we found the house of an old man who was a rock collector, and selling them from his porch. Great prices and he took personal checks! Very old-fashioned and pleasant indeed. Beautiful drives in the area too, and quite close to the continental divide and the Colorado trail. Durango is much more modern and quite a bit larger, but we stayed in an old hotel from the mining days, and had a great time singing along at the piano bar until late at night.

Another fun town near there is Ouray, with hot springs. The big one is Telluride, which is where all of the movie stars go. It is beautifully set, and we have taken jeep tours up into the mountains there, and between there and Ouray. Stunning!

View from the top of Imogene Pass, between Telluride and Ouray.

Wonderful photo of the Imogen Pass view. Also, I occasionally watch the live feed from Telluride. An adorable little town.

We took the Imogene Pass photo ourselves. It is gorgeous, but windy and coolish up there. The first time I was there, in August, there was still snow. The snow in some places grows algae, making the snow look pink! The pass is over 13,000 feet.

ADD: It is called watermelon snow. According to Wiki:

caused by Chlamydomonas nivalis, a species of green algae containing a secondary red carotenoid pigment (astaxanthin) in addition to chlorophyll. Unlike most species of fresh-water algae, this species appears to be cryophilic (cold-loving) and thrives in freezing water.

Mornin’ All. Weather the same, sunny, coolish for the moment, and beautiful. Well, yesterday was a shock.

I went to the eye doctor to get a form filled out to get a Montana DL. I think God is still taking care of me. I had not realized how bad the vision was getting in my right eye. Anyway, the doctor did a little checking and dialated my eyes and said she wanted to get a picture of the inside of my eye. After that, they got another type of picture of my eye. Then, she told me the spot that was bothering me was a bleed and she wanted me to see another doctor, who luckily was in the building and available. The way to fix this was a shot!!!!!!!! I figured I would have a week or so to think about it, but noooooooo, he wanted to do it RIGHT THEN!

He sent me to another guy who numbed my eye, and talked the whole 10 or 20 min while he did it a few drops at a time. He was very good and kept me distracted. Then the doc came in, the guy had me look to my left at him as a distraction, while the doc very quickly put a little thing in to hold my eyelids apart and gave me the shot at the same instant. I think he took a split second to do it. Then they washed my eye out with Betadine and then washed that out and I was ready to go home.

I couldn’t focus on anything so I didn’t even bother to turn on the computer. It took overnight for the dilation to go away. I was a little uncomfortable until late last night, but seem almost normal this morning. This could work and I might not need another shot, but they just don’t know until they see what this does. They said it could be from a lot of stress and high blood pressure. So, I have to calm down and relax a little more, I guess.

Anyway, Loki was really glad to see me when I got home. Always a plus.

Have a nice day wherever you are.

I sure hope that Klaus and his minions aren’t paying attention to this, because if they are, we’ll all have to get rid of our cars last week.
