Midterm primaries today: Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Kentucky, Oregon and Idaho. Here is some brief news about two of the races.
Pennsylvania
The race for retiring Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey’s seat has been resulted in a large primary field, and there is a hot race on the GOP side, and it is unclear at the moment who will win. President Trump is backing Doctor Oz, which seems a strange choice to me. There seems to be a neck and neck race between Oz and McCormick, with Barnette closing in. Trump also says he is not backing Barletta for governor because he ran a bad Senate race in 2018.
On Sunday, Democrat candidate Lt. Governor John Fetterman announced he was recovering from a stroke. The 52-year-old said he went to the hospital on Friday after not feeling well and would remain for a while for observation. He is still in the race despite his health setback. He said, “Our campaign isn’t slowing down one bit, and we are still on track to win this primary on Tuesday.” Up until the Sunday announcement, Fetterman has been leading in the polls.
North Carolina
President Trump has endorsed Budd for the Senate, and Cawthorn for the House. Cawthorn is vulnerable because of his participation in the Jan. 6 “Stop The Steal” rally, and other political “missteps”. President Trump yesterday on Truth Social asked voters to give him another chance.
