In 1961, after 16 months of school, the USAF sent me to St Albans, VT to install a radar. Little known, St Albans is 17 miles south of the Canadian border and site of the northernmost Civil War battle. In 1863, nine Confederates road the train down from Montreal and stuck up the town. Robbed both banks and the railroad office (which kept gold bullion in transit). Our view from the chow hall of the radar station, was similar to the photo above.
This is fascinating. China is entering Afghanistan!
China’s biggest misadventure is here
July 28, 2021 – TFIGlobal-India
By being persuaded to enter Afghanistan by Pakistan and the Taliban, China will become another name in the list of countries for whom the war torn country has served as a graveyard.
I don’t know. I am sure their Rules of Engagement will be “Kill them all”, whereas our guys were told not to fire until they have been fired upon and then, they ended up in jail because they killed an enemy whose family complained, or something. Yeah, the Chinese have a better chance.
Afternoon, all ya’all! Been crazy busy for days, finally taking an afternoon off to chill. Later will go to dinner with GGS and then teach him to play Gin. I loved to play Gin with my dad. Mama did not play cards (raised Baptist).
Recently, currants came up as a topic. I use them in baking. Remembered that they were “Zante” currants, and were not really a currant (as we know fresh ones), but a dried Black Corinth grape.
Great marketing for a product, but it resulted in an unusual surprise one day.
A friend grew gooseberries and red currants, and since I had never eaten either fresh, I eagerly tried a fresh currant. It was so tart! I was shocked. Same for the gooseberry. Now I know why they are primarily used in pies and jams, where you can add lots of sugar!
Agreed 💯to the awareness on loop 😷which we learnt in the school of nursing that they don't protect from hospital acquired nasocomial viruses and bacteria for more than https://t.co/iz8P6PGErL to say they protect pple from C19 is glaringly a lie 🤔
Nance loves her dictatorial powers. Can’t you just see her striding around with a whip and knee-length leather boots at the camps she’d love to set up for Trump supporters?
Wonder just how many staffers and governmental officials were infected by the Texas Democrats. By the virus, I mean…we already know every single one of them is infected by the leftist brainwashing disease.
U. S. Sen. Smith strikes out as MLB rejects plea not to close Minnesota bat and helmet factory
Written by Tom Steward | July 28, 2021 – American Experiment
Just weeks ago, Sen. Tina Smith, (D-Minn.) and her Democratic colleagues were cheerleading their big win in collaborating with Major League Baseball’s controversial decision to politicize the All Star game by interfering in Georgia politics in moving the event from Atlanta to Denver over newly enacted voting reforms.
Hey y’all! We had one heck of a big shaker last night in southcentral Alaska! Measured 8.1 on the Rickter scale. We’ve made national news from it. The epicenter was about 300 miles south of us, in the Aleutian chain. We don’t usually feel the quakes in the Aleutians here on the Kenai Peninsula. I knew it was a big ‘un when it happened because it went on for so long–well over a minute. The hanging lights were all swaying big time. But nothing fell off the shelves or the wall, so that was good. I went to the Univ. of Alaska Fairbanks’ earthquake site and discovered that there were no less than 60 quakes yesterday that measured over 1.0 (we have lots of little ones every day that you can’t feel unless you’re right on top of them). Waiting out a quake is a very helpless feeling, as there is nothing you can do about it but pray and hope. Glad to report that all is well!
It truly is. The view is magnificent! We face a row of 10,000 foot glaciated peaks, the Alaska Range, just across Cook Inlet from us. It is like a destination healing resort. God truly blessed us when we were able to buy this property. Ain’t never moving again!
I haven’t heard that, but we don’t get many quakes over 7.5, so it might be true. The Big One on Good Friday of 1964 that devastated Anchorage was a 9.2.
Hi, Tundra! I was wondering about you when around midnight, maybe, I read about the earthquake. Said a little prayer that you would be all right. Yes, earthquakes cause the heart to really pump fast, especially when it feels like your house is bouncing like a ball.
Another couple of good reads today (can you tell that all our company has gone?). I love both good writing and snarkiness, especially when they happen together.
Very well, Wee, thanks for asking! I went for far vision in both eyes and will have to wear readers, but it seems like my near vision is somewhat improved also. And the astigmatism is completely corrected, which he said was a crap shoot after radial keratotomy, which I had about 25 years ago. I’m pleased with the outcome. Now I’m praying that my shoulder replacement surgery in 3 weeks goes equally well!
Just turned on the Weather Channel and saw bad weather passed through Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois this morning/noon! Hope all is well with the Stellars up there. We are hot and dry.
Dr. Stella is going big on her defamation suit. $100MM. Article doesn’t say where she filed the suit, or who her attorney is. Let’s pray for some traction.

Good morning, geoff! Nice view, for sure.
If you click on the photo it will enlarge (and the Oregon photo, too). Breathtaking scene and photography.

The move would NOT have happened under a Trump second term. Anyone think Biden’s handlers are going to put any pressure on the MLB?

No sign so far of any water problems. We’re at the ocean’s edge, but about 120′ above the water level on top of a solid cliff. And glad for that!
