It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others across America join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture.
Each American farmer feeds more than 165 people … a dramatic increase from 25 people in the 1960s. Quite simply, American agriculture is doing more – and doing it better. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States.

In 1900, one American farmer could feed 12 people, Compared to the 25 in the 1960s and the 165 people today.
American efficiency, technology and down right hard work. Fertilizers and weed killer is part of this.

These are my people. Farmers. Not ranchers. IMO, they are a different breed Just got back from that part of the country, and it’s always refreshing for the soul.

I love driving in the country in the summer, particularly at night. The smells are as clear to me right now as they were 40 years ago.

Absolutely. We were up a bit too early as everything is waterlogged and no planting has been started yet, but you are spot on.

There is something about riding in the country when the Farmers are preparing the soil and then planting. You are correct when you say the smells are wonderful and then the harvest is equally wonderful!!!

Then there is the smell of newly-mown hay. Other smells aren’t so nice, but just as recognizable! Pig manure comes to mind.

The short piece is a great thought piece as far as a reminder of American exceptionalism!!! Doing more and doing it better than anybody else, but the fact that we are so generous with our goods!!! Thank you for the reminder.
