PS: I thought, for years, that I had no Irish ancestors. When I started doing genealogy, I found out that isn’t true, although I suspect my Irish ancestors originally moved from Scotland to Ireland in the 1600’s. In Ireland they call them Ulster Scots, and they are Protestants, not Catholics.

I got to thinking about languages and Gaelic in particular. So after hitting that search engine, an article popped up with this explanation: “Why Gaelic Isn’t Irish”
“This is where things get a little complicated: specifically, Gaelic is an adjective that describes the people and culture of Ireland. The Irish language is sometimes referred to as “Gaeilge” (pronounced Gwal-gah), but it is not Gaelic; Gaelige is the name of the Irish language in Irish.
“Like its Gaelic cousin, both are Indo-European languages, but Irish is actually a language unto its own. The term “Gaelic”, as a language, applies only to the language of Scotland. If you’re not in Ireland, it is permissible to refer to the language as Irish Gaelic to differentiate it from Scottish Gaelic, but when you’re in the Emerald Isle, simply refer to the language as either Irish or its native name, Gaeilge.”

Soooo, the song is likely in Irish or Gaeilge, though the video explanation doesn’t say so. But if you speak Irish, you’ll know.

The Scotti were originally an Irish tribe that migrated to Scotland. Once there they became the Dal Raidia Scots.
