Defiant amateur investors on Reddit say they are not backing down on their investments in GameStop — and even took out billboards in Times Square and across the country urging the faithful to continue holding the line.
“$GME GO BRRR,” blared a digital ad on the corner of 54th and Broadway in Manhattan. The ad ran for an hour on Friday and was a creation of digital billboard maker Matei Psatta.
The line refers to a popular internet meme that uses “Brrr” to signify the sound a money-printing machine makes. GME is the stock’s ticker symbol on the NY Stock Exchange.
Investors on Reddit have driven the price of GameStop — a dusty mall electronics retailer worth only $2.57 a share at one point last year — to astronomical highs in just days. From a value of just under $40 a share on Jan. 14, the stock skyrocketed to $483 a share. Though price swings have been extremely volatile, the stock has spent much of the last five days comfortably above $300.

The best part is, in the world from which the peasants come, the peasants ARE elite.
What are the odds elite peasants didn’t buy that billboard space?
(they hacked it, of course. no elite would do otherwise)

Tried to explain this a couple three days ago but fell short.
Listened to hours of “explanations” but no one got it.
This feat will not be replicated across Wall Street.
Why GameStop? Why not another fading company?
No one asked.
The answer is in the mindset of the retail “amateur” investors.
The world of Dark Web is ruthless, dog eat dog. Attaining recognition as “Elite” is recognition of being top of the food chain.
But being “Elite” is not tech skills.
Took me ~two years to attain “Elite” in our little world.
I was on the top board, but one must be “Elite” to be invited to become a full member.
This was during the Bush years, and the U.S. was in Iraq.
A particularly insidious rumor was making the rounds that PI DIs (Parris Island Drill Instructors) left recruits alone, allowing PI recruits to throw puppies off a hill to the puppies death, which was a lie. No recruit is ever left alone, ever. Having been a PI recruit, my experience was first hand.
L’il Ol’ Quiet, Mousey jeans2nd reared up on her two hind legs and went full metal jacket.
They’d no idea I was one of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children, and there was no way this Marine was going to allow anyone to speak ill of My Marine Corps.
My invitation to become Elite full member of our board arrived in less than 24 hours.
That’s how it is with the GameStop guys.
Hedge funders may eat whom they choose, but not one who is special to the Redditors.
Found a great visual of this in Sundance’s twitter feed last night.
The tweeter guy gets it.
