Mornin’ Miss Wee. Love that big ol’ hunk of metal. First time I saw one up close was at Grissom AFB back in about ’72 or so, at an airshow. The thing used up every inch of the 2 mile+ runway. Wings flapping like a gangly teenager, and up she went, just clearing the fence at the end of the runway. The ground shuddered under our feet. It was awesome!

I have lived under the B-52 taking off an landing most of my life. During the Cold War, the nuke laden Bombers took off and landed 24/7/365. Half the fleet was airborne at all times. I think we have 2 squadrons stationed in Minot Air Force Base. We have the only indoor repair facility. The other base with B-52s is Barksdale. We were a 1st Strike Target during the Cold War and I doubt anything has changed. They can be fitted to carry more munitions than anything else in our arsenal.
That is a lot of awesome. I Love those monstrosities.

In the 1950s when I was in my pre-teens, my brother and I often enjoyed watching them flying training missions right overhead – on a route between Malmstrom AFB (Great Falls) and the Minot base. At night, we would follow their lights as they flew among the stars on refueling training missions. Good times.

I’ve posted on this a lot over the years, by the time it’s retired the great grandkids (or better) of the original pilots. Right on its heels is the C-130 that entered service with the USAF in 1956. While the last B-52 was delivered in 1962 the C-130 is still being manufactured with the new ‘J’ model being rolled out now. That makes the Herky the longest continuously produced military aircraft.

Also following on the heels of the B-52 is the Russian TU-95, it began service with the Russian Air Force in 1957 and is still in service today.

Our favorite Sunday Columnist capsulizes the week. She talks about fraud. The election, the media, the FBI, Congress and a couple other thrown in for good measure.

Good morning and good afternoon to all the Stellars, and Merry Christmas!
I’ve been wondering if our truck driving friend Rah has checked in lately, I think he had some surgery last week, I hope he is doing well.
That guy is the real deal, most don’t appreciate how hard his job is, or how regulated it is, unless you have been reading his posts.
I don’t drive commercially but I work on class 4 thru 8 trucks as well as light cars and trucks, and am amazed by America’s truckers. Towards the end of the month, in general, our guys bring me a ton of FMCSA * write ups from lighting to tires to load securing issues, as well as expired and missing medical certification for the drivers themselves.
    Get healed soon, Rah.
    God bless all.

Nope, never wanted to drive rigs for a living. I’d driven some Army rigs on Interstate convoys back in the 70s and there are people out there driving little mortal cars who are IDIOTS. I’d be driving a rig that weighs close to 15-tons with a dozer on the back that 16 tons…and they pull right in front of you and slow down. The old tractors were manual transmissions you drove with the tach and between the gearbox and the brakes many of those idiots owe their lives to the driver’s determination not to have to explain to his motor sergeant what that red and oily stuff on and under the truck was.

I still see it, especially where drivers getting on to the interstate push violating trucker’s right-of-way by speeding up and trying to get in front of the truck rather than slowing and letting it continue.

Thanks, Mike. So Rah had surgery? Last I remember he’d related he was under doctor’s care and they were deciding what to do. At any rate, he’s been in my prayers since he first mentioned he was having problems. Rah’s a good man. His posts are fun to read. If anyone wants to know a trucker’s life, they only have to read his writings.

Michael Yon’s report re last night in DC….

    DEC 13, 2020 AT 9:32 AM
Incredibly Dumb D.C. Metro Police last night
I was there from early morning until about 0200. (About 2.5 hours ago.) I saw much of the action you may have seen on the news, such as the two Proud Boys stabbed. That was about 15 yards from me. And more…such as this. Amazing:
