Built in 1779, the Hermione was a 216-foot, 32-gun pride of the new French Navy. It had a copper-bottomed hull that made it able to out-run every ship it encountered. As the Smithsonian put it, “the Hermione could out-sail any ship it couldn’t out-shoot.” This fact proven when the English could only catch its sister ship, the Concorde (this capture would prove helpful in the 1997 reconstruction of Hermione).
In March 1780, the ship set sail from Rochefort, France to Boston carrying Gilbert du Mortier and the Marquis de Lafayette back to America. The Marquis at the time was sending word to George Washington that France would be sending an arms, ships and men to aid in the Revolutionary War effort. Lafayette fought tirelessly with the French King to help America in its fight for freedom, and for that he is well remembered with scores of towns and streets named after him (Fayetteville, North Carolina, Fayette, Maine, Lafayette, Oregon, just to name a few).
After initial fundraising by the Hermione-Lafayette Association, construction of a replica began in 1997 with an April 2015 launch in mind. Plans from the English captured Concorde were used to help build the replica, and in 2014, trials began for a transatlantic voyage that would mimic the voyage Lafayette took in 1780. The ship, a three-masted, 32-gun frigate made its way to America in 2015.
On July 1st, the ship docked into the South Street Seaport. A New York Times article chronicles the fan-fare surrounding the ship’s arrival, and the elaborate measures taken to make the voyage and experience as it was back during Lafayette’s time.

10 Things for Which I’ll Never Apologize
A memo to the legion of the chronically aggrieved.
Wednesday, July 1, 2020 by Don Feder
There are people who live to be offended. They’re called Progressives. They are offended by Confederate statues, by monuments that they say celebrate white supremacy and colonialism, by Trump supporters, by Trump himself, and by those who refuse to get on their knees and grovel before Black Lives Matter.

Mornin’ Wee. I have never considered myself a bloodthirsty person. I actually pass on movies that have a lot of violence in them most of the time. But, in these times when I see “The tools always forget that they’ll be eaten first” my first thought is, “Can I watch?” 🙄

Good day to you, WeeWeed! The troll doesn’t merely guard the castle but goes out among the barbarians and smites them, and has plans for his minions to put them in tiny cells away from those they might corrupt. You see, he’s read their book, plus others which give him insight on how to defeat them. Pray God he succeeds!

Mornin’ everyone. Well, another sunny day here. That dust from the Sahara is evidently stopping us from getting any rain which we need badly. I plan to take my laptop in to get it fixed today since I will be in that part of town getting a haircut. I don’t know if I will be able to actually post anything from my Kindle. I haven’t figured out how to make things work yet.

You can post from Kindle. A bit clunky though. It was my only computer for a while before I got my current laptop.

I may have questions. I had to set up an appt for Sun. July 12. 😯 They are still on COVID time. So, I guess I will have time to work on the Kindle and figure out how to use it.

That’s a good idea to start using the Kindle now and then to get acquainted. I’ll help if I can.
ADD: You can use your smart phone (if you have one) as well.

By the way, with the current laptop, I purchased the at-home warranty coverage from Dell. Best $100 I ever spent. I had to have my motherboard replaced this year, and it was done at my dining room table.

I am sure I will do that. I got the extended warranty on my glasses, which is something I don’t usually do. I only had them a short time and got a bad scratch on one lens. When I finally went in to get a replacement lens, they said I don’t have to pay anything. It was only $25 for the extended warranty. And, my glasses are very expensive because I have to have a very thin lens and all the extra bells and whistles. It would have probably been $300 to pay for replacing the lens.

2 ) The voice of real America;
”NYC is cutting Police $’s by ONE BILLION DOLLARS, and yet the @NYMayor is going to paint a big, expensive, yellow Black Lives Matter sign on Fifth Avenue, denigrating this luxury Avenue. This will further antagonize New York’s Finest, who LOVE New York & vividly remember the horrible BLM chant, “Pigs In A Blanket, Fry ‘Em Like Bacon”. Maybe our GREAT Police, who have been neutralized and scorned by a mayor who hates & disrespects them, won’t let this symbol of hate be affixed to New York’s greatest street. Spend this money fighting crime instead!”__President Donald J. Trump

(About the takedown of CHOP)
“You know who was arrested?
Leaders.
They were identified BEFORE the cops went in, and then they were snatched.
Behind the wall of regular cops were snatchers in gray uniforms.
This was an amazing operation.
Please don’t underestimate the skill it took.
CHOP was full of armed maniacs who’d already murdered four people.
Clearing it out was a multistage operation, with distractions, deception, infiltration, sabotage, and bogus orders given.
What made this even harder is the extremely low functional IQs of the people involved.
LARPers think their fantasies are real.I wonder what the CHOP gunmen thought when they met the Delta Force face to face. They probably screamed like that man-child having a tourniquet put on his scratch.”

“I heard there’s more to come, more Brady evidence to come, I mean, the longer Judge Sullivan takes to dismiss the case, the more stuff they owe me. The NYC mayor is a dork. He had a special unit that proactively squashed violent crime and small business robberies disbanded. The unit was disbanded because it got into too many shootings BUT it got into those shootings because it went after criminals who used guns to commit muggings and store robberies. In the four days following the unit’s disbanding robberies and shooting soared into record highs.
He’s going to piss off NOPD even more (he’s really been working on it) and they’re going to pull back and let the crime climb just to show the people – he doesn’t care – what it is they do for the city.

Sounds like what they should do. Let the city burn rather than defend it and go to jail for defending it. Some people need to be clobbered over the head with their own hammer before they realize the truth.

Oh it wiull, the idiots forget the not-so-long-agp days when the South Bronx was a full-out combat zone and burned badly as the fire department would say calls were too dangerous to respond to without heavy police presence.

Sounds like they are right back there again.
Like when they bellyached in Ferguson about Giant Mike laying dead in the road for hours, well if shots had not been fired and an unruly mob of thugs had not gathered Mike would have been removed a whole heck of a lot sooner.
Simple reason is not a strong suit amongst the BLM/Antifa herd.

They’ve already started coming for the politicians, they’d better hope that when Antifas does and they dial 911 that the trained community crisis support teams responding bring their rape whistles and social shaming apps.

Great ones, lovely!
1) Ole Dale didn’t know he was out of style in 1980.
2) NYC is run by folks who are certifiable. They think the longer the federals don’t do anything about the chaos, the more people will hate Trump…that’s their gamble–hoping Republicans will turn on our President because of “inaction.” Many on our side have to be reminded that local crime is a city/state issue. Cuomo doesn’t call out the Guard because he’s convinced Trump will be blamed for everything. He’d rather let the largest city in America be destroyed rather than do what is right.
4) The owner forgot this one…such a nice bronze color….
7) Love me some squirrels! I don’t see too many around my area.

Thanks Lucille 🙂 . I know poor Dale, apparently no one even noticed until he retired and sent out postcards with the series of photos on it 😦 .
Pretty pretty gun, but it looks like it might be dangerous it looks like it has little feet and little legs and could probably run about and shoot things all on its own!!

I got a call from my Congressperson’s office this morning, about something else but I asked about an issue that had been in the office for some 2 years now.
The issue was my asking for a count of how many reported instances there have been since 2000 of US military and LEA personnel running into Mexican military and LEA personnel inside of the US border and in how many of these the Mexicans fired on or pointed weapons at the US personnel.
Last year about this time I’d called for a status check and was told that the request was in the Congressional Research Office as iot was responsible for pulling data for Congress. I’d mentioned to them that the DHS in DC had put out a report exactly detailing this but it seems to be something too hard to get. In over 2 years I’ve had zip in response from either Senator or my Rep.
There was a new woman at the office who’d called me and when we’d finished the business she’d called about I asked about the border-related request. Well it seems to have disappeared entirely from their online records. Things they do for constituents usually stay in the computer so they have a list of your interests and things they can remind you of come campaign contribution time – not this though, gone as if it never existed.
Issue still exists though, just over a year ago a group of Mexican special troops disarmed, at gunpoint, and detained two US Army personnel on the border just south of Clint, Texas. A flow of pure BS was shot out of the CBP, NORTHCOM and DoD offices about the Mexican soldiers being confused about where the border was even though the US soldiers watched the Mexicans wade the Rio Grande and approach the town – who in northern Mexico doesn’t know the Rio is the border? That piece of news lasted in the MSM for about 2 days before the veil of BS descended to smother it. Seems there are things afoot we’re not supposed to be privileged to.
