    I let Daisy, the ancient and…fluffy…border collie out for her nightly constitutional. As soon as her foot hit the grass she let out a woof and was off waddling down the hill towards the lake. I turned my light on and there was a dark rabbit loping down the hill about 20 feet ahead of her, not trying to escape but just keeping out of her reach. There’s a couple of rabbits that do that, not trying to get away but just play chase, and they do it with the other not-so-old dog BD too.

    Some years back Daisy found a bunny nest on the ground in back of the garage. She actually laid there a few feet away protecting the bunnies (from the cats I guess) as momma rabbit picked each one up and moved it to a new location. Another rabbit built a nest under our white oak tree and BD, every time she was outside, would walk around the tree and scope out the nest as if she were making sure everything was OK. At times she’d even lay down downwind of it as if protecting it.

    I’m wondering if the rabbits are paying the old dogs props by playing chase, giving them a run but not insulting them by zooming off?
