They just blew the crtanes. One fell as expected, part falling on Rampart street (no word on collateral damage) and the second crane didn’t blow as expected. Crane 2bis still solid from the mid section up, the jib is still attached and connected but bent over the top of the hotel dangling over onto Canal Street.
We now have a bigger mess as someone’s going to crawl up some 250 feet in the air to cut that jib and then the mast. The big mess has become a bigger mess.

We’re hearing that the BBC has a remote crew on the explosion site. My guess is they’re trying to video some larger and more f*****-up disaster than Brexit.
BTW, we’re being told officially that the reason they couldn’t do the shoot on Friday was the weather. Other sources are saying that the reason’s that one of the construction companies that are supposed to be paying for this couldn’t come up with the funds.

Or soon thereafter. Dees don’ be lookin’ good, Lucie, now they going to have to figure out how to bring that dangling mess down without crap seesawing out of control.
If that mess falls onto Canal it can cut the streetcar lines – and they’re going to have to cut all underground utilities off before the shot and if it goes wrong there’ll be a whole bunch of businesses from shoeshine stands to banks to brokerage houses that will feel the hit.
The ‘no go’ zone’s been reduced but still encompases a chunk of the main business area including blocking upper Canal street itself. I shudder to think what would have happened had this been a Saints ‘home game’ day.

I heard the building Company was already in some kind of trouble. The owners didn’t sound American to me.

However, the news reported the illegal immigrant who will be deported was arrested for fishing without a license, and found to have no legal papers. Doesn’t mean he can’t be in the lawsuit, as far as I can figure….

A notable lack of politicians yattering on about how they are ensuring a safe and efficient demo project – just one with the mayor saying how much more safer the situation is now, how they’re working on a solution to the much-more-safer 140,000-poundish mast and jib decorously draped over the slumped building and how the city (gesturing to herself) wouldn’t allow any of the building to be salvaged, it must be torn down to the ground. I’m waiting for Her Honor to ask to borrow my demo tape and conversion charts though she just may have those figures stored in her vast library of leadership knowledge.
They’re putting away those ‘We Did This!’ speeches they were ready to deliver if it all went well. They can just do some word processing on them, changing the subject to whatever deed someone else successfully accomplished. No need to waste a good appropriation.
Funniest thing is there’s a video of the crane’s apex doing a 180 as it came down and sticking upright in Rampart street like a giant lawn dart.

Sounds like New Orleans is giving California a run for its money. CA turns off the electricity, destroys businesses and personal budgets as a fire control measure, (and still has fire in the process….) in lieu of managing the forests; and now, New Orleans reasons out loud – about ” how much…safer the situation is now,… how the city…wouldn’t allow any of the building to be salvaged, it must be torn down to the ground.”
Well, shoot, if building and public safety is enhanced by not allowing anything to be salvaged, let the country collapse. I guess.
There have always been this kind of deluded people in the population. We kids knew, in first grade, which of our classmates were in this group.
It just used to be they weren’t put in charge of stuff. Not even on the playground.

It’s a mess. The city is a sanctuary city, has been since the early 90s when local businesses that supported politicians found the ‘Mexicans’ would work harder for lesser wages than locals.
The news is saying the illegal was arrested a week after the accident where he was hurt but was arrested about 6 miles away illegally fishing in Bayou Savage. That has nothing to do with the narrative but it helps the local news deflect from the FACT that NO ONE in the city or the contractor who hired him did a background check. If so they’d have found his previous arrest for illegally entering, making him a felon, BUT then again the city’s all in hiring felons and being a sanctuary city.
The city has to be in the damage suits, there are videos surfacing that were made by workers days before the accident, videos that showed slumping and bending supports and supports placed too far apart. These complaints had been brought to the attention of management who ignored them. Question floating about is: ‘did the city inspectors see these issues and if not why not?’.
