Hm. Unless I missed it, I don’t feel like I got very much information about what happened. My guess is we will find out more from Czar in the coming weeks.

Everyone’s staying mum on this, it’s a helluva mess and the initial scrambling is going to be CYA and blame assignment/avoidance.

This is a biggie, it also knocked as hole in the roof of the recently, and expensively, refurbished Saenger theater, causing a load of damage and postponement of some New York roadshows scheduled to appear. It has a big chunk of the downtown closed off and and those residing within a couple of square blocks have been forced to vacate for an undetermined period with no indications as to whom will pay their relocation bills. Businesses in the same area have been forced to close also. With the city’s usual lack of interest in the residents’ problems there is no indication when residents/businesses will be allowed back in.

Meanwhile, at about the same time as the collapse, a 48″ water main broke uptown causing a huge flood up to 4-feet deep in places and putting the area under a ‘boil water’ advisory. The city fixed the main was ready to flush it when……oooops…..someone apparently opened the wrong valve and sent dirty water into an otherwise clean stretch of pipe. By the time they caught the error a whole new heavily populated area was added to the ‘boil water’ advisory and both areas are under that advisory until further notice. Problem is that not only are personal homes involved but so are medical facilities and restaurants in these popular areas.

Around here we call it ‘Monday’.
