I’m looking at weather conditions at Freeport, Grand Bahama. Right now they’re showing 79 degrees, 50 MPH winds out of the NW and an 85% chance of rain going to 100% by 1 AM. Interesting thing is they’re predicting winds of 100 MPH at 10 AM max, dropping off after that to 95 by 1 PM and 56 by 10 PM tomorrow, Let’s see how that holds.

While my father was training aircrews at the old Palm Beach AFB he and his fellow instructors had a joke they’d play on newbies.
During the student’s shakedown flight the pilot would hide a barf bag next to his seat they’d dumped a can of vegetable soup into. At some point the pilot would feign becoming airsick…I’m gonna leave it there because there may be delicate stomachs out there and I think you may see where this is going.
I was once on a flight from England to Chicago when an ailment overtook me. I told DH I had to go to the ladies room, and unbuckled my seatbelt. We were landing. The air hostess told me that I needed to sit down! I told her I was sick. She said to look in the pouch of the seat before me, and that there was a bag I could use.
I just looked at her and said, “Lady, I can’t s**T in that bag!”
The plane landed with me in the ladies room holding on to the walls!

We had to move some Crypto gear to an exercise in California so the sent an empty C-141 to pick up us and the equipment. The Sergeant Major decided to come with us – most likely as the idea of moving en masse with the wad of prima donnas we had disgusted him. Thing was, the SGM loved his booze and the AF frowns on drinking on their planes…unless you’re a general.
We went to the supply room and grabbed a foot locker and stenciled ‘CRYPTO’ on it, put a padlock on it, a 48-quart cooler with ice, beer and stronger stuff inside and tossed it in the trailer with the CRYPTO gear. The AF loadmaster knew this was a special COMSEC run, otherwise why send a whole C-141 from California to Louisiana and beck to California so there were no issues. As soon as the plane was aloft and we got the signal it was safe to remove our seatbelts the SGM and one of the other sergeants went into the trailer to check the COMSEC – we could hear the beer poptops all the way outside.
At some point the other sergeant left the trailer and went to the potty in the ‘comfort pallet’, unseen by us or the loadmaster. About the time we got to Shreveport the plane starts to buck and pitch and the loadmaster jumps down from the cockpit to the deck giving us hand signals to put on the oxygen masks. Very soon after the inside of the plane starts to fill with smoke. We make a very steep emergency descent into Altus AFB, rear cargo ramps open and fire trucks following us down the runway. We all quickly unass the plane and move 100 feet away as the fire crew goes inside to check it out. As they enter the smoke we see out missing sergeant walking down the back ramp thru the smoke, seems he’d taken in a bit troo much…COMSEC…fell asleep in the potty and didn’t come to – thru the entire descent and emergency landing – until the firemen banged on the closed door.
That flight actually ‘blew up’ twice. When they landed the first 141 ar El Toro to pick us up they had to park it for some minor thing. Marines didn’t have a suitable power cart to start it so the pilot used the APU and ‘pow’, it blew up and knocked a hole in the plane. We spent the night sleeping on our packs under the eucalyptus trees and the ‘burner’ plane flew in next day.
After we made the emergency landing at Altus three sergeants said to hell with it, went downtown, rented a car and drove home. They actually beat us as the fire was in an A/C pack and they had to fly one and a repair team in. That was a fun trip.
The more I look at Dorian the more I wonder when it will turn. That’s a big storm and where it’s not moving quickly it still has a lot of momentum and we’re being assured that the Bermuda high will move east then south while a trough will move SE at just the right time to sweep it up the coast offshore. That’s a lotta atmospheric ballet that’s gotta choreograph juuuuust right.
We’re still stuck on Katrina. I can remember sitting and watching the Weather Service saying how it would exit Florida and enter the Gulf somewhere south of Ft Meyers.
It would then almost immediately turn north and impact between Pensacola and the Big Bend. As it came off it immediately turned WSW for a while and I knew that it was going to come close to us, it was getting too big and the winds were all wrong. I gassed up our vehicles early and got ready.
They tell us that forecasts are muuuuuch more accurate now (that’s what they said before Katrina too) but with all the atmospheric variables you still gotta worry that nature’s more powerful than the forecasters. I’m betting that somewhere in the National Hurricane Center someone’s already got a CYA speech ready if this big baby doesn’t play by their plan.
Watching it on the TV and it looks like the eye took another slight jog north though it’s still going west at 1 MPH. Wind in Freeport still under 60 MPH but it’s raining…ain’t all bad though.
Storm’s weakening, up to 922 MD from about 910 last night but that doesn’t mean it won’t pick up as it sails over the Gulf Stream as it carries very warm water thru the Straits of Florida from the Gulf. That’s still a huge storm and I’m waiting to see when/if it starts to move. I can barely imagine the amount of energy it takes to move a storm – just think how much it weighs.

The area was mangrove and sea pine jungle with some sand oaks that people had hung ropes and tires from. It was a super family beach, some level of government had even installed BBQ grills and kept the beach clear and clean. There were a few fresh and brackish creeks flowing in thru the jungle. Then the state/county decided to lease huge chunks of it to developers for tax revenue and…..
Having been on some digs I’m hoping that before they recovered the mosaic and after they reuncovered it that all of the soil was sifted for detached tiles and tile fragments. I hated working the sifter but surprising things pop out.

I should have given more info. FEMA actually uses this Index because there are so many Waffle Houses around. And, the Waffle House stays open 24 hours a day. They can actually make some judgments on how bad an area has been hit by whether the Waffle House is open and serving. Seems funny, but makes sense.

When viewing another vid about 30 minutes ago, there was a reference in the sidebar from what I thought was MSNBC re James Mattis saying that President Trump has limited cognitive abilities…and that’s probably not the half of it. Can’t find it now. I have to admit I’ve never been a fan of Mattis and was delighted when President Trump let him go. Although I don’t think that cabinet members sign confidentiality agreements, I hope they do and he signed one. Then our President can sue the crapola outta him along with the other jerks. I calmed down and had a nice afternoon in spite of knowing this unusual man–our hard-working, competent, caring President Trump–has to constantly put up with folks who aren’t used to being justifiably talked-back to, and who react poorly when overruled and told to get off the stick.
So, my daughter twittered a video of her brother’s proposal to girlfriend. It went nuts. He was hiking in HI and had ring with him waiting to find right time to pop question. When he did, a stranger was off in distance taking a panoramic video of the beauty and scanned, accidently when he was going down on knee, passed by, realized what was happening, and panned back and caught it on video. The strangers showed their reaction on camera and airdropped the video to my son’s friend. With this transfer method, no contact info exchanged.
Sooooo, they want to invite them to the wedding because they felt something special with them as they caught a very private moment and did so kindly. Now a station in HI want to use the video for news story to help find the people. Any of you have suggestions how this is done.? So the station is not farming out video packaged in their own story and then next thing used In advertising vids for travel businesses? How does this work to remain her property?
I’m pretty sure that in giving the station the right to use the video, a person no longer solely owns the video. Personally, I’d thank the station but indicate that the family will be using Facebook to locate the kind and considerate persons who took and gave the video to them.
I’d be happy to be wrong about this, though, and it turns out the station would give the couple a contract stating the vid remains in their sole ownership and may be used only for the purpose of locating the videographers, not for advertisement use on any product or service.
Also, it would be impossible to determine beforehand what the reaction of the couple who took the vid would be toward having their gift used for anything commercial. They might be hurt or upset at such a turning.

I should have given more info. FEMA actually uses this Index because there are so many Waffle Houses around. And, the Waffle House stays open 24 hours a day. They can actually make some judgments on how bad an area has been hit by whether the Waffle House is open and serving. Seems funny, but makes sense.

IG Report confirms Obama lied about Hillary’s emails
In March 2015, when the Clinton email scandal was first breaking, CBS White House correspondent Bill Plante asked Obama about his knowledge of the matter:
Plante: Mr. President, when did you first learn that Hillary Clinton used an email system outside the U.S. government for official business while she was secretary of state?
Obama: The same time everybody else learned it through news reports.
But, that’s just not so.
Sean Davis, at The Federalist, saw the footnotes showing Obama’s involvement. “FBI analysts and Prosecutor 2 told us that former President Barack Obama was one of the 13 individuals with whom Clinton had direct contact using her clintonemail.com account,” the report says in a footnote on page 89. “Obama, like other high level government officials, used a pseudonym for his username on his official government email account.”
I interviewed Davis about this item on WMAL in Washington yesterday:
“Yeah, and that’s something we suspected for a while but I believe this is the first time it was confirmed. According to the Inspector General, Obama was one of thirteen individuals with whom Clinton emailed directly and in fact she even emailed him directly, according to the report, from the territory of a foreign adversary. And this is important because Obama had previously claimed that like everything else he learned as President, he first learned about Hillary’s secret private email from the pages of the newspapers. We know that’s not true now. In fact, it’s almost certainly a lie and it gives us some insight into why there was actually never any charges against her, because there is no way the FBI and DOJ could have gone after her for misuse or mishandling of classified info, if in fact the President was doing the exact same thing at the same time. So it’s a pretty earth shattering bombshell in that report as far as I’m concerned. “ …

When viewing another vid about 30 minutes ago, there was a reference in the sidebar from what I thought was MSNBC re James Mattis saying that President Trump has limited cognitive abilities…and that’s probably not the half of it. Can’t find it now. I have to admit I’ve never been a fan of Mattis and was delighted when President Trump let him go. Although I don’t think that cabinet members sign confidentiality agreements, I hope they do and he signed one. Then our President can sue the crapola outta him along with the other jerks. Man, I’m teed, not that I didn’t expect such a move from Mattis. He was a business-as-usual Secretary of Defense.

Col. Jeffrey Chessani. You allowed him and his family plus the other “Haditha” Marines to go through hell for political purposes having nothing to do with justice.

Thanks, facebkwallflower! I calmed down and had a nice afternoon in spite of knowing this unusual man–our hard-working, competent, caring President Trump–has to constantly put up with folks who aren’t used to being justifiably talked-back to, and who react poorly when overruled and told to get off the stick.

So, my daughter twittered a video of her brother’s proposal to girlfriend. It went nuts. He was hiking in HI and had ring with him waiting to find right time to pop question. When he did, a stranger was off in distance taking a panoramic video of the beauty and scanned, accidently when he was going down on knee, passed by, realized what was happening, and panned back and caught it on video. The strangers showed their reaction on camera and airdropped the video to my son’s friend. With this transfer method, no contact info exchanged.
Sooooo, they want to invite them to the wedding because they felt something special with them as they caught a very private moment and did so kindly. Now a station in HI want to use the video for news story to help find the people. Any of you have suggestions how this is done.? So the station is not farming out video packaged in their own story and then next thing used In advertising vids for travel businesses? How does this work to remain her property?

I’m pretty sure that in giving the station the right to use the video, a person no longer solely owns the video. Personally, I’d thank the station but indicate that the family will be using Facebook to locate the kind and considerate persons who took and gave the video to them.
I’d be happy to be wrong about this, though, and it turns out the station would give the couple a contract stating the vid remains in their sole ownership and may be used only for the purpose of locating the videographers, not for advertisement use on any product or service.
Also, it would be impossible to determine beforehand what the reaction of the couple who took the vid would be toward having their gift used for anything commercial. They might be hurt or upset at such a turning.
