Well we’re sitting here in the ^&%$#@ middle of the ^&%$#@ night, our BRAND NEW GE built-in double oven is beeping, giving us an error message that says the touch-control panel has failed. We popped the breaker so that it resets and while we’re sitting here wide awake I looked it up on the internet.
Aside from giving us the ‘cut the power for 5 minutes, reconnect the power’ instruction I see where it says that this is happening a LOT with these new GE ovens in this series – and they ain’t cheap – and they expect a class-action suit over it in the near future.
I’d posted about out frustration that our previous double oven in this vGE series crapped out too after just about 8 years and it had the SAME problem, our home repair service replaced the set after replacing the control panel once only to have it fail and GE to say they just ain’t making new control panels for that over no mo’, buy a new one. I’ll say the same thing I said about GE now that I did then: “And they expect me to feel comfortable flying in huge jets powered by engines they build?

Welcome to the modern throw-away society. I wouldn’t be much more confident about those jet engines than you are. Seems as though Jeff Immelt pretty well drove that once wonderful organization into the ground, yet he was able to limp away quite wealthy.

Here is another GE failure. I loathed this man, and left mostly because of him, as did many excellent employees and managers. He later went on to Chrysler and was in DC with his hand out.

He just about killed off an awesome company. Unfortunately, their voodoo management is widespread today. My organization has north of 20,000 employees and we operate under a “matrix organization”. You can’t tell by new-fangled titles, who does what and if you are an Indian, you end up taking orders from about 4-5 different chiefs. I’m just hoping I can last a few more years. It’s pretty obvious that most companies don’t want to hire 60 year-olds.

Yes, I last went job hunting, except for a brief hobby job at Bass Pro Shops, in 2011 and it was an uphill battle. It was very humbling because I have never had even a little problem getting a good job before. Anyhow, as you age opportunites are fewer and that is just dumb.
I know companies think they are investing in young people who will be with them awhile but in actuallity the young people rarely stay 2 or 3 years, plus many of them lack work ethic and have monumental attitude problems.
I had two retired men who worked for me in Lumber Department part time, 15-25 hours a week. Those two old men worked circles around the full timers and really got more done in 15 hours than almost every one of the 40 hour a week employees, plus gave excellent customer service AND they would answer phone calls.
Given those, and other experiences with older and younger workers, as a damned good manager and small business owner I can tell you I’d put my money on the older employees every time. And I learned that lesson and felt that way almost 25 years ago, so I don’t see it as age preference on my part because I am older too.

When I was 12 and my mother was 42, she had to go to work. She went to an employment office and filled out an application. The secretary told her they wouldn’t be able to place her because of her age. She turned to walk out the door and the manager called out from his office, wanting to know who was out there. He had someone on the phone who didn’t want a “youngster” as he said, he wanted someone who was mature. So, she went over and got the job that day. She worked there at the college for 20 years and was finally promoted so that I could get a scholarship to go there. They really valued her.

I just did what I should have done, looked it up. Immelt sold the GE appliance division to the Chinese company Haier in June of 2016. Their crap carries the GE brand but it’s made under Chinese oversight, which probably explains why the noticeable difference in quality between the first one we had and this one. The original one was more…decorative…and pleasant looking while this one looks like it came out of the People’s Oven, Range and Tractor Plant #7. There’s a notable decrease in visual appeal though it appears they retain the Immelt-era unreliability.

Sadly, I quit buying GE products several years before that as the quality had already gone off the cliff. I actually buy Samsung products for Mrs. T’s kitchen. I won’t be buying one of their washing machines though. Those seem to have a blowing up problem. Hopefully, the one we’ve got will become our kid’s problem (wishful thinking).

I place a good bit of the blame on Unions as their rise coincided with what were the US’s mainline products being moved to cheaper overseas manufacturing facilities. That fueled the concept of planned obsolescence, guaranteeing return customers.
A simple explanation to a complex issue but we’re screwed either way.

I actually bought a GE washer a couple of years ago. So far, so good. It’s an old-fashioned top loader, though.

Our house in NO was built in 1957. We remodeled the kitchen in 1998, changing the oven to a new one because the old was PINK!!! and the temperatures were off. GE. Lasted forty years. Humph.

Thinking about going down and pulling the old GE out and placing it here. It works, our expensive convection oven doesn’t.

Mom shares hilarious before-after photos of daughter’s first day of school
NEILSTON, Scotland – A Scottish mother has perfectly captured how draining a child’s first day back at school can be.
Jillian Falconer, of Neilston, couldn’t resist sharing a side-by-side comparison of what her 5-year-old daughter Lucy looked like before – and after– her first day at school.

When my son was 3, he wanted a suit to wear to something at preschool. I went to Goodwill (after seeing what they cost in the stores) and found a 3 piece gray suit for $5. It fit perfectly and he was so proud to wear it. Those pictures remind me of him wearing it. He liked to wear it out to dinner, too. He would be so perfect when we left home, and by the end of dinner his shirt tail was pulled out, the tie was crooked and had food on it and the jacket, too. I never said a word, I just cleaned it after we got home because he tried so hard to be a big boy when he wore it. LOL

The little girl much represents me. My mum used to have a standard reward for people who would return my winter coat which I always took off. I think she gave up on having much of a say over what I wore somewhere in the first grade 🙃.

Czarina and I were just discussing how, when we were dating way back and my unreliable car was broken, I’d walk from work to her place or from my place to her place. I looked up the milage, just for the heck of it, and it was 6.5 miles from where I worked or 2.5 miles from my house. The city was at 4300 feet and her house was up on the mountainside about 300 feet higher so from work it was about 1/3rd of the way uphill and from my house almost all uphill.
That was some 40 years ago, I’d have to call Uber now, and the first time I’d actually ever calculated the miles. As it turns out she was worth the effort and, 40ish years later, neither of us has done anything to the other that would warrant a Lifetime Channel movie so it’s a win-win…or at least a draw-even.

My wife and I were looking for a sensible and appropriate dress for our 2d grade granddaughter. Most of the dresses were akin to a cocktail dress. A mother with her daughter who was about the same age came looking for a dress. The mother was looking at cocktail styles and the little girl was looking at the sensible and appropriate styles. The mother was trying to get her daughter to look at her choice.
I wanted to tell the mother that she does not have any idea lucky she was to have a daughter with no idea of wearing a cocktail dress. But I kept my mouth shut.

LOL You probably made the better choice to stay quiet. But, I agree with you. The sexualization of young children makes my skin crawl. I love how my DIL dresses my two granddaughters, 2 and 4. It is somewhat old fashioned most of the time, which I really didn’t expect, and she always makes the 4 year old put on shorts under her dress if she is going to play on the swingset or climb. Her own mother raised an amazing young woman who is a great mother herself.

It is disheartening how slutish the industry has made little girl clothing and further disheartening that there is such a large market for it.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
