    Don’t know if many of you know about Sacred Harp gospel singing but it’s making a comeback. I just ran across this video of some singing at a church in my old partner and his wife’s town in Alabama. Not their church but it’s the same style they sing:

      Sacred Harp singing is a tradition of sacred choral music that originated in New England and was later perpetuated and carried on in the American South of the United States. The name is derived from The Sacred Harp, a ubiquitous and historically important tunebook printed in shape notes. The work was first published in 1844 and has reappeared in multiple editions ever since. Sacred Harp music represents one branch of an older tradition of American music that developed over the period 1770 to 1820 from roots in New England, with a significant, related development under the influence of “revival” services around the 1840s. This music was included in, and became profoundly associated with, books using the shape note style of notation popular in America in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

        And to find a video from Henegar, AL, upon top of Sand Mountain. There were (don’t know if they still are) some snake-handlers in the area though up top they claim they’re really down in the valley.

          I have a half sister and her family up in Henegar. We cut ties long ago, partly because of religious issues.

            My friend was married to my Vietnam partner, he met her thru my love of pineapple milkshakes – she was working at a local drive-in.

            We were stationed at Sewart AFB then and you can imagine my buddy’s surprise when he discovered he was dating his boss’s daughter. They married and stayed together for almost 50 years before he died.

            She moved to Mentone with him, his folks lived there up on the mountain, they owned a small grocery store that had about as many IOUs as cash, but that’s how it was before Chattanooga elites started buying up the property for weekend getaways or commuter homes.

            She lives up there on Sand Mountain now, most of her kids’ families do too. My buddies family has a generations-deep connection with the small church she belongs to and they watch out for each other. I’m thinking that particular video was a sign it just might be time to take my GGS and go up to visit her and her kids on the mountain.

                That’s what I was planning. My buddy and I bootlegged there many years ago, from Mentone over to Lafayette over the mountain, before the tourists discovered it. That was the best place, as good as any New England place, for foliage.

    I’m heading out at the crack of dawn for parts unknown as long as it has dry sand and an ocean view where I’m planning to have a party…

      Ahhhhh…I can remember when you had acres of unpopulated beaches in Florida. You’d be able to beach-go and have acres to yourself. Ancient and long gone history.

    Seen on Facebook this morning. I think he’s right.

    We will never know for sure what happened to Epstein. Investigations will drag on. No one will believe them. Conspiracy Theories will multiply but we have no institutions capable of either debunking or validating them. No one will be punished.

    All we know for sure is that we don’t know.

    We know our government and media are corrupt.

    The swans remain standoffish but we still have 4 cygnets and their parents. They are very skittish around people which is good. I think all 4 will make it to adulthood they really are out of the danger zone from everything with the possible exception of the coyotes and there is no way a coyote would go after this crew even if they’re in the marsh.

    Princess Charming on the other hand was still as a rock and let me take several photos from less than 12 inches away.
