      But, don’t worry, it is not the first time the lake has changed. It has been around for 800,000 years and has expanded & receeded at least 28 times. The big one everyone in Utah knows is 14,500 years ago it went from covering almost all of present day Utah (and a little of Nevada & Idaho) when Lake Bonneville emptied out (took about a year) after a natural dam overtopped & eroded. It dropped again about 13,000 & 12,000 years ago due to CLIMATE CHANGE. Farming and diversion take some of the water which should go there to replace what evaporates.

        One of the main reasons I left (aside from chasing my soulmate half the way across the country) was I’d lived thru a mid-70s drought there and it was a real pain. That was 40ish years ago when they had far, far fewer people there than they have now – and it’s still growing.

        They’re largely reliant upon snowmelt filling reservoirs from an annual precip of some 20 inches (mostly from snow) to supply the valley. One of those periodic droughts where they get less than half their already meager precip and real juicy there.

      Dead Sea is drying up too, both just ain’t getting the water they used to. Then again it’s been drying up since Lake Bonneville broke through its dam and the Intermountain Waste became desert.

      We used to go Antelope Island, the state of Utah has a bison herd there, a twin to the one it manages in the Henry Mountains. They’re impressive stinky cows, we’d go to watch them and dream about one day drawing a bison/buffalo hunting permit for the Henry Mountain herd. That never happened.

    Good morning, Stellars. My father-in-law went home to Jesus, yesterday. He’d been struggling for several weeks, but he lived a good long life. So anyway… I’ll be flying out tomorrow and gone for several days. I’ll miss everyone here, but look forward to “seeing” you soon. I may pop in and out today, as time permits.

    The lost, sunken city of Thonis, also known as Heracleion, fell beneath the Mediterranean sea around 1,200 years ago. It is mentioned in a number of ancient texts but the existence of the city fell into myth and legend until the Year 1999, when divers stumbled upon the remains of this incredible underwater archaeological site.

    Dubbed Egypt’s Atlantis by the experts, studies have been on-going since its discovery and we are only just beginning to learn about this incredible lost city.

    Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities has announced this week a series of astonishing new discoveries including the remains of a large temple, as well as several shipwrecks from the 4th century BC, which were found to be full of precious artifacts including gold jewelry and coins.

    Whooooo wheeeee. Tok GGS to the range today, his first outing with a hi-powered rifle, figured he’d graduated from two years with a .22.

    It was hot and humid – the range is in the middle of a swamp. I fired about 10 rounds, 5 out of each gun, for a function test, then turned them over to him. Three hot and sweaty hours and about 240 rounds later we ended the session. Actually we ran out of ammunition, had I have brought more we’d still be there. Between doing target duty and walking the 1/4-mile back and forth to the truck for gun repairs, I’m dead. I came home and just fell asleep in my chair. He’s fine, ready to go sagain – I’m looking for a life transfusion.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
