Wee, my niece who lives in the mountains caught a mouse in a live trap. It was the middle of the night so she didn’t want to go far enough into the woods to release it away from her house so instead she put it in a cage that she had used to house her former mouse pet (yes another wild mouse but that is another story), with the plans of releasing the mouse miles away the next day.
Fast forward to morning and the mouse that she caught in the live trap and put into the cage for a morning release had given birth to a bunch of little mouseletts.
😂
So she and her husband decide to keep them all until they are old enough for release.
Fast forward another few days and her husband leaves the lid off of the cage. Morning comes and the momma mouse had relocated all of the mice to some unknown location within the house.

Years ago we busted a hole in our lake’s dam to bring the level down so the overflow pipe could be cleaned. There’s a small pasture and a wooded strip between the dam and the road that filled with water and the field mice and rats that left the area, running across the road, looked like a Biblical plague on the move. You never really know what you’ve got outside until it gets stirred up.

I can just see the field of mice.
When I as a young child (young enough that I wasn’t allowed to go to the beach alone) my dad and I were walking he noticed that someone had covered the access path (about 10feet wide by 50 feet long) with small grey stones rather than the usual dirt and stones that had been there for years.
It turned out to be thousands of baby toads all hop skipping and jumping into their new life. They were no bigger than the tip of my pinky at the time.
Somethings you just never forget.

Sounds like out garage. Toads and at least one type of frog seem to think it’s a nursery/daycare center.

We also get a strange phenomenon sometimes in the Spring when, after a good rain, the roads are flooded with frogs either sitting on or crossing. Not too good for the frogs, in all, but interesting.

True story. We had a cat that made it to 20 or 21 – we to this day can’t remember if we got her in 1985 or 1986 – a Bently gray colored manx. Anyway one day DH found some mousies in the firewood pile we had out back to he went in to fetch “The Ancient” to take care of them. I kid you not, she was petrified and just stood there and cried, staring at me to save her. So I did. The End.

The applause and cheering you probably heard coming thru the air this morning was the result of insurance executives being elated that Barry was officially declared a hurricane! Folks with wind/water damage policies get hit with higher deductibles when the damage was caused by a named storm. Barry was declared a named tropical storm a couple of days ago but being declared a hurricane put the last nail in the deductible coffin as there were some folks with policies that just said hurricanes.
Good to know the insurance folks are thinking of us.

For the last two days, with the storm approaching, the outside cats have wanted to be outside. They’ll come in for a quick bite and then it’s back outside. All I can think of is something deep inside tells them the rodents will be moving, looking for spots up and out of the water, and it’s hunting time. They have no problems coming inside at night but as long as the sun’s up they’s out.
