    Ten Smiles

    1) The love, humor and goodness of Little AOC and her family.

    People wanted to donate money for her education. They said no.

    Thank you to everyone for the good will and support for Mini AOC (Ava in Orange County). Your kind and thoughtful comments have brought Ava many smiles and we greatly appreciate it. Some people have suggested on social media that we start a GoFundMe for her college education. However, this has never been about making money as others have suggested.

    This has always been about Ava and having a platform for her talent, charm and intelligence.

    We’re fortunate enough not be hurting financially like so many others and Ava will always be well-taken care of including her education. Not to mention college will be free soon and the Earth will end by her junior year. In lieu of donations for her education, Ava would like to ask everyone, Left, Right, Conservative, Liberal, Republican, Democrat and Independent, to please donate to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name (Ava or Mini AOC). Most of society’s problems can be solved if we work together and the health and well-being of our children are some of them. St. Jude is a world-class hospital caring and curing sick and injured hopefully we can raise enough money to help as many children as possible together. Did you know that?

    They set up a GoFundMe account for St. Jude ❤️.

      Good day, Nyet! Pancakes, bacon and eggs along with that bowl of fruit and some pecan pies should be packed up in a picnic lunch cooler for me to take to this lovely beach (Newport Beach, Sydney, NSW, Australia)…

      …where hopefully some adorable fellow will move the large cooler to that beach chair for me…

    Makes more sense than some of the Q nonsense – that VP Pence is head of the Resistance and being sent to Gitmo, and the JFK Jr (who faked his own death and has been in hiding) will be taking over as VP. I am not making this up. I don’t have an imagination that good.

    Czarina and I were discussing how the local news presents black community issues now, there’s been a sea change.

    Back in the early 80s the massive ‘white flight’ issue of residents abandoning NOLA for the Northshore was blamed on the sky-high crime rate in the city. As the 80s cruised along the crime rate continued to grow and residents moved north. Nothing was directly said, then as now, but everyone knew what that meant, all you had to do was watch the same local news or read the paper.

    As the 80s ended and the 90s began the issues were NOLA school violence, the flood of teen mothers and the entire Projects culture in the city. The TV reports were honest, unbiased and open, something that would later be called ‘racist’ at best.

    I remember when, to help combat teen violence and school truancy the city enacted a night curfew and a law that would force police to detain students found on the streets during school hours. The students would be held in a facility until their parents came to pick them up…only the press was reporting that large numbers of parents were not coming to pick them up, police were being told that if you want them chirrun home YOU bring them home. A startled press reported openly and honestly, the complaints about their honesty and openness rolled in and the issue disappeared.

    There was a series on how many residents in the public housing projects were on their 4th generation in the same apartments, it was as if they were being passed down by ownership from generation to generation. Coupled closely was a piece on teen and preteen pregnancies in the black community, highlighting young women who said they saw it as an easy way to get public aid and not have to do the 9-to-5 thing. To buffer the truth there was also what was supposed to be, I guess, a sob piece on how some felt they never had anything of their own in their lives but a baby made them feel they actually owned something of their own – not a good choice. Anyway, that all disappeared.

    A local TV reporter did a piece on how a very obscure USDA program was living in the bowels of many US major cities. The USDA gave innercity food stamp recipients a certain amount of cash each month, they were supposed to promise to use that money to buy food and feed hungry children in the neighborhood. The money was turned over to food stamp recipients chosen by a local politician in the recipient’s innercity neighborhood. No real criteria other than being on the stamps, no real accounting other than their signing a roster and no tax reporting. What could go wrong?

    The local reporter who blew the lid on the program showed it was being run by a pol definitely not known for being forthcoming or honest. The pol’s daughter, who lived in a pricey house in an even pricier neighborhood, was on the program. The amount the recipient’s received was significantly less than that they signed for. The person running the program at the distribution point was an NOPD officer fired for brutality – you got any idea what it took to be fired for ‘brutality’ back then? Needless to say the piece ran once and the whole issue was dropped and the reporter will not talk about it to this day.

    So, as to our discussion on how local reporting’s changed, well it’s changed. No longer is the race of the perp/vic released, you have to infer from the location given for the incident and even then it’s not unusual for the report to blur that. The only time the old projects are talked about is in retrospect (we now have ‘multi-income housing’) and any problems in those multi-income housing areas is just reported by street location…as if we can’t make the leap. It’s a brave new world where problems don’t exist because we don’t talk directly about them, reality served with a soothing side of denial.

        Now I understand that to skew the statistics the opioid OD deaths are included in the crime rate as they are largely white. I can’t get an official confirmation of that but the city’s been a historical user of fishy methods to diddle with the crime rate.

    Well, here we are again, almost at he start of another school year and I just got the list of school supplies our GGS will need. Included is the usual %^&$# student dictionary. In the last six years I’ve purchased as many dictionaries, always the same one and, as every parent I’ve talked to says – they disappear.

    This year we get to buy and equip him with POINTED scissors – no hint as to whether they’re needed for schoolwork or defense. Crayons, colored pencils, colored thin and thick Sharpies, just as in the last six years, all supplies the GGS says they never use.

    At least this year they have the honesty to admit that ‘donations’ of the heretofore ‘mandatory’ bulk cleaning and sanitation products ‘would be appreciated’. The game is on.

        Don’t start me, I just got home from Walmart, they’ve destroyed every other supermarket chain in the smallish town west of me and they’re the only game in town.

        Already they have the shelves of yellow cardboard bins going up with JUST the right supplies, all neatly marked with the same item nomenclatures and sizes as those on the pre-printed-by school lists of mandatory supplies neatly stacked by the isles.

        Surely just a remarkable yearly coincidence.
