    Posted this next door, thought I’d bring it here too:

    Monday’s going to be an interesting day in Hong Kong.

    Monday will be the 22nd anniversary of the Brits handing Hong Kong over to the Mainland. Hong Kong pols attached to the Mainland and the Mainland Hong Kong minders are worried that the confluence of the anniversary with the still ongoing protests over the extradition bill will cause a mess as large or larger than the 1-million person demonstration earlier this month. It hasn’t helped that Hong Kong’s Mainland puppet Chief Executive has refused to throw out the extradition bill, just temporarily withdraw it for reconsideration. The bill is to be reintroduced and voted on again shortly.

    The Hong Kong police have activated thousands of trained riot police, more are on standby in the adjoining Mainland and the PLA will send personnel if necessary. Attendance at the anniversary celebration in Hong Kong has been limited and there is a solid ring of security around the center where the celebration will be held.

    The Mainland is getting upset with Hong Kong. It put up with the semiautonomy stuff as a spoonful of sugar to make the loss of Honk Kong a bit more easier for the Brits to swallow but it’s tired now. At some point the PLA might just march into Hong Kong and take it, as it threatened to do with the Brits. The PLA has been holding shows of strength aimed directly at the Hong Kong protestors and the city’s been told the Mainland isv going to build a military dock and supporting facilities there regardless of what the residents think, a reminder that the military will not hesitate to use its forces to subdue the recalcitrant colony.

    Let’s see what Monday brings.

    Ten Smiles

    1)

    Snowman (February 29, 1948 – September 24, 1974) was a former plow horse of mixed breed ancestry, possibly a cross of Quarter Horse, Morgan, and various draft horse types. He was purchased for $80.00 on his way to a slaughterhouse and became a champion in show jumping in the United States during the 1950s.

    2) Fresh cold tap water.

    3) There is a whole thing where people paint rocks and then toss them back onto the ground. Sole reason is to brighten people’s lives, it isn’t political in any way. (That I know of 😏).

    I found this on Thursday in a parking lot median.

    I love that the artist didn’t like their first drawing so they obscured it and drew on the flip side.

    I never use the flip side of paper, even when I was a kid and my mom and teachers told me use both sides of the paper. It just annoys me, can’t tell you why but it does.

    Anyhow my little rock discovery did brighten my day 🙂 !

    4) We were just chatting about the beauty of glass and stained glass and I happened to find this little gem at a thrift store 🙂 !

    The damages? $4.99 🙂 !

    5) Fireworks.

    The planter I got for my birthday from my daughter. It has 3 tomato plants and 3 basil plants. All are doing well. I have been harvesting the basil, and there are lots of green tomatoes. This variety produces orange slicers. There are two grow bags on the ground to the right of the planter; those are Amish paste tomatoes.

    I have another 4 big tomatoes up near the front porch, and a bunch of cherry tomatoes in pots and grow bags on the patio. My peppers are starting to set fruit. My nasturtiums have their first two blooms just opening!

      An easy tip for grow bags: cut the bottom off of a soda bottle, and stick it, spout down, well in the growbag. When you water, just fill up the bottle!

        Thanks! The plants are doing well.

        I wouldn’t recommend this planter, although I made it work.

        You can’t move it once the soil is in it, and you can’t put casters on it either, because the legs aren’t supported well enough.

        Also, the way the plastic is molded on the bottom, all of the water can’t drain, so your plants could get root rot. I poked holes in every partition in the bottom to promote drainage, then I lined it with landscape fabric before putting the soil and plants in.

          Thanks for the info. I will be getting a different setup next time around, but I guess not that type. The one my husband got for me is falling apart. It wasn’t made very well and we didn’t realize that when we got it. We are looking at some raised bed kits that Home Depot carries, but probably not until next spring.

            Good for you! It’s too bad that things aren’t made well enough to serve the purpose, but we keep on trying while we are learning. You can still enjoy your plants, and that’s the important thing.

              Thank you. It’s very fun and I want to keep it up. My little pepper plant has the cutest little pepper on it. It looks ready to pick, but since there’s only the one, I’ve been hesitant to do so. I’ll have to plant more of them next time.
