    Everybody sleeping in? We finally got some good rain yesterday, 2 inches. They are saying there is a possibility of more this afternoon. I hope so. Unfortunately, I hear more rain in the forecast for the flooded areas. 😦

    There are some days when the slipping school system here does work. I went into my favorite You-Know-Who fried chicken store and ordered an 8-piece box with 2 sides for our dinner. When I got home the box had 18 pieces in it and the receipt did read ‘8 piece’. Close enough I guess, the amount tendered (pun not intended) did contain an ‘8’.

      The other day I went into chain farm store to buy some weed killer and goat minerals. One of the bottle of weed killers I couldn’t find a price, so I asked the girl how much it was. She couldn’t find a bar code and wasn’t smart enough to look it up in their little cheat book that has bar codes. I had already told her there wasn’t another bottle of it or a tag on the shelves for it, but off she goes looking.
      I waited a good ten minutes and the line was stacking up behind me and this boy comes up and I tell him to tell her to forget it and just ring up my two items. The total comes to $25.25, so I give him a hundred dollar bill and a quarter. Should be simple right? Something most of us don’t even have to think about. So I watch him get three 20s out and a 10 and then turn away to answer a question the guy behind me asks. He just hands me the money, I saw a five on the bottom and assumed he had it right.

      Headed home and stopped at the convenience store out of town to get a drink. I left home with only the 100 in my wallet. I go to get the money out to pay for the drink and I had $85. When he got into the 10 dollar slot, I guess he pulled out two 10s. I’m already ten miles out of town, so I’m not about to turn around and drive back to give them the 10 back. I knew I had confused him with the quarter, I could see it on his face and he already had tried to take five 20s out of the drawer and then put one back and then said out loud he didn’t think that was right and put the other one back. I probably would have caught it if the man had not asked me a question and I would have told him only one 10, but I’m not going to go out of my way to give them their money back. Stores need to test these kids and see if they know how to count money.

        One Christmas season I had a part-time job in an electronics store. We had to take a test on making change. Every store should make their clerks take it.

          I agree, folks are more apt to catch you cheating them out of change, then they are to tell you that you gave them too much change. It’s the store losing out.

          This being a chain though they allow the manager to do the hiring and firing and he’s as dumb as a bag of rocks.

        I’ve been at the point where if I don’t pay by credit card I count the change before I leave the counter. If possible I pay with as close to the register amount as possible as I hate holding up the line but I’m not going to just walk if the amount’s more than a dollar.

        I generally count as they remove the change from the drawer, I just trust the auto change maker, but if it’s over I give the cash back as they used to fire register folks if their tills were over or under. With the poorly educated ones we have now, especially as most stores don’t pay ****, I’m betting they have a somewhat relaxed policy now.

          I always watch as they take it out of the drawer, but got sidetracked. I knew the 20s were right and saw him take out a ten and then saw the five. Never thought he’d be dumb enough after realizing he was screwing up on the 20s to take out two tens. Why would you when if you thought it was 85 in change when he had plenty of 20s in the drawer?

          Normally I will correct them and have been known to explain to them how many of each to give back. lol
          In this case nobody would get fired because all of them were using the same register without having to log in.

      I have come to the conclusion that everything and anything they are involved in has cheating and lying involved. Remember when Trump was elected and there were some Dems who wanted recounts up North in Penn or maybe Mich. (I can’t remember the details), but after starting the recount they suddenly dropped the whole thing. I believe what happened was that they found irregularities, but it was all on the Dems side. LOL

    For those on a Federal retirement (civil service, Social security, military, etc) there may be a coming boon to this China-Mexico tariff stuff. It’s hitting during the FY’s 3rd quarter, the same quarter that’s used to determine the rise in the CPI that determines our raise come January.
