Portsmouth Harbor was a vital military embarkation point for the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944. Southwick House, just to the north of the city, was the headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander, US General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

National commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion is being held in Portsmouth today, attended by Queen Elizabeth and President Donald Trump.

I honor my forefathers, and mothers who bravely step forward when called.

Dumb ass Democrats passed their Dream Act yesterday, yelling “Yes We Can”! I imagine it won’t pass the Senate, so “No, you Can’t”. Jerks.
Read this on Facebook, but haven’t verified it, although it comes from a good source:
7 Republicans voted for this:
1. It Protects Criminals.
The legislation would do nothing to prosecute criminal illegal immigrants.
βApplicants with several misdemeanor convictions can obtain a green card, even if the misdemeanors were violent and resulted in death or bodily injury,β according to a critique of the measure from House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La.
Moreover, the Secretary of Homeland Security is prohibited from using gang databases of state or federal agencies to keep gang members from obtaining green cards.
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/jun/4/dream-act-passes-house/
Republicans who control the Senate wonβt bring Mrs. Pelosiβs bill to the floor. They say it ignores the urgent problems at the border and doesnβt include any tools to prevent waves of illegal immigration.
The White House also vowed a veto even if the bill reaches the presidentβs desk.
βNo compromise is possible without both sides coming to the table,β the White House said in a policy statement this week.
Democrats didnβt seem interested in a compromise, given the path the bill took to reach the final vote.
Party leaders carved out just two hours of floor debate, blocked Republicans from offering any amendments and made no overtures to find common ground, effectively daring Republicans to either vote for the bill as is or else be labeled βanti-immigrant.β

Liberals fought with party moderates over how generous to make the forgiveness provisions of the bill and whether to exclude illegal immigrants with gang ties or drunken-driving convictions.
In the end, Democrats wrote the bill so that appearing on gang membership databases could be used as evidence but wouldnβt be an automatic block to citizenship. Having a DUI wouldnβt be enough to disqualify someone either, though multiple DUIs would be a problem.
Republicans attempted during debate to change the bill to explicitly exclude gang members, but Democrats soundly rejected that effort.
βIf youβve been designated a danger to Americans, then you donβt deserve to become an American,β said Rep. Ben Cline, Virginia Republican.
The debate underscored how much the immigration issue has changed over the years and how little has changed in the politics.

As long as you stick to the beaten tourist paths and use trusted transit to get around you should be fine, most of the tourists who get into trouble ask for it.
If you’re in a hotel the concierge can be trusted – the concierge and not the bellhops. Or give us a buzz, either way you should have no problems.
As to what we found on the doorstep/front lawn it’s generally not that much different than you’d find in any other major city and we’re always grateful that no one’s set it on fire and waited for us to stomp it out. Then again when it sobers up it can usually walk home on its own.

Our part of the city was suburbs, started out mostly old folks but over 20 years it evolved to one of us mowed the lawn & the other watched the street for passers-by who might rob us. Neighbors were fine. Main thing we found on the steps were stray cats….who then moved in.

Litenmaus, for many years I had a jar full of small bones from a non-adult Prairie Rattlesnake which my maternal grandmother killed in their yard in South Dakota. My mother was about 6 and ran to her Mom to say there was a rattler slithering around and out came the shovel and off came it’s head. They cooked the meat for dinner. Mom said it tastes like chicken.

Seems to me that Grandmom made the little bones into a necklace for my Mom since she was such a good girl to report both on the danger and for providing the evening meal. LOL!
Grand was a very talented lady. She was the town seamstress and milliner, working out of her home. The more well-off ladies of the town would bring her their “cast-offs” and grandma would take a percentage off the charges for the new items she would make for the ladies. Those used items were usually made of such fine material that she was able to rip out the seams, turn the wool coats and dresses inside out, change the style, add a couple froo-froos and they would look like new when Mom and her sisters wore them.
She also painted the interiors of whatever new home rental they moved into, made wood furniture, draperies, pillows, slipcovers, bedding, was a great cook and baker, too. I wish I’d written down all the fun stories Mom told me over the years about her mother.

Why So Many Mass Shootings? Ask the Right Questions and You Might Find Out
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/why-so-many-mass-shootings-ask-the-right-questions-and-you-might-find-out/
…Yet, America had plenty of guns when its mass murder rate was much lower. Grant Duwe, a Ph.D. in criminology and director of research and evaluation at the Minnesota Department of Corrections, gathered data going back 100 years in his 2007 book, “Mass Murder in the United States: A History.” Duwe’s data reveal: In the 20th century, every decade before the 1970s had fewer than 10 mass public shootings. In the 1950s, for example, there was one mass shooting. And then a steep rise began. In the 1960s, there were six mass shootings. In the 1970s, the number rose to 13. In the 1980s, the number increased 2 1/2 times, to 32. And it rose again in the 1990s, to 42. As for this century, The New York Times reported in 2014 that, according to the FBI, “Mass shootings have risen drastically in the past half-dozen years.”
Given the same ubiquity of guns, wouldn’t the most productive question be what, if anything, has changed since the 1960s and ’70s? Of course it would. And a great deal has changed. America is much more ethnically diverse, much less religious. Boys have far fewer male role models in their lives. Fewer men marry, and normal boy behavior is largely held in contempt by their feminist teachers, principals and therapists. Do any or all of those factors matter more than the availability of guns?
Let’s briefly investigate each factor.
Regarding ethnic diversity, the countries that not only have the fewest mass murders but the lowest homicide rates as well are the least ethnically diverse — such as Japan and nearly all European countries. So, too, the American states that have homicide rates as low as Western European countries are the least ethnically and racially diverse (the four lowest are New Hampshire, North Dakota, Maine and Idaho). Now, America, being the most ethnically and racially diverse country in the world, could still have low homicide rates if a) Americans were Americanized, but the left has hyphenated — Balkanized, if you will — Americans, and b) most black males grew up with fathers.
Regarding religiosity, the left welcomes — indeed, seeks — the end of Christianity in America (though not of Islam, whose robustness it fosters). Why don’t we ask a simple question: What percentage of American murderers attend church each week?
Regarding boys’ need for fathers, in 2008, then-Sen. Obama told an audience: “Children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools; and 20 times more likely to end up in prison.”
Yet, the Times has published columns and “studies” showing how relatively unimportant fathers are, and more and more educated women believe this dangerous nonsense.
Then there is marriage: Nearly all men who murder are single. And their number is increasing.
Finally, since the 1960s, we have been living in a culture of grievance. Whereas in the past people generally understood that life is hard and/or they have to work on themselves to improve their lives, for half a century, the left has drummed into Americans’ minds the belief that their difficulties are caused by American society — in particular, its sexism, racism and patriarchy. And the more aggrieved people are the more dulled their consciences.
When you don’t ask intelligent questions, you cannot come up with intelligent answers. So, then, with regard to murder in America, until Americans stop allowing the left to ask the questions, we will have no intelligent answers.
LikeLiked by 4 people
Well, of Democrats don’t want to ask these questions. Their destructive policies are at the bottom of them. It’s easier to carp about the NRA with the bonus of not having to own up to this disaster.

Update on yesterdayβs police standoff and closure of highway near me.
No idea.
Just the basics have been put out.
Guy and woman in van. Donβt know what stared the chase but shots were fired by the perpetrator.
It wasnβt known as to whether or not the woman was an ally of the perp or if she was a hostage.
About 6 hours into the standoff the guy and woman emerged from the van he had a gun on her but then ran at which point he was shot and taken into custody. Critical condition.
She was at first uncooperative and then resisted arrest (still unclear when she was considered a hostile but the vile woman stabbed Justice our canine police dog) so I hope they drop her off in the middle of Lake Michigan.
Justice is doing fine and already released from the vet.
No official names released by the police.
Apparently they were face timing with police during the ordeal.
Names are probably available but Iβm just not interested. (Just checked, yes they are available) Two scumbags.

Something I’d posted next door. The reference to ‘the post above’ was a rather long vent on their thread about the US and Mexico not being able to reach an agreement about Mexico halting its aiding and abetting the illegal flow of aliens in to the US.
BTW, on 1 June a healthy 20-year old male, otherwise healthy soldier supporting operations on the southern border in Nogales, Arizona was found dead. For those who donβt have an interest in this area the city sits just across the border from Nogales, Mexico β a major port for illegal drugs, an extremely dangerous area that makes even the BP who patrol it extra cautious. Itβs a major terminal for human and drug trafficking and the last numbers I saw had BP finding over 100 tunnels in the Nogales area. See post above about what we know vice what Congress has seriously done about a serious issue.
The notice of death was delayed for some reason and not widely publicized. The Army was very quick to announce they could find no evidence of foul play but as of today has not released a cause of death. Iβm waiting to hear what they say while, nearly a FULL YEAR later, the DHS and my Senatorβs office are STILL sitting on my request for figures on how many cases of US personnel running into Mexican military and/or police INSIDE OF THE US and how many instances of US personnel or citizens being fired on by these personnel have been officially logged.

Used to live outside Sierra Vista with my 7 yo and 2 dogs. One of my co-workers was from Nogales. Her father owned a gym in Nogales, Mexico, but came back home to Nogales, AZ every night.
We were blessed to have Roxanne as a co-worker. She and Lou warned me very early on and instructed me just how to behave when approached by the illegals.
i think of Lou and Roxanne often now. Things are so much worse. Everyone was warning the gubmint back then, the mid-eighties. No one listened.
Seems even loss of life moves no one now.
