Jason Chaffetz has something interesting to say about the Inspector General’s report:
Does William Barr already have the report from Horowitz, and how would that influence his actions and words in the current political climate? As Jason says, DID that influence his appointment of Durham?
In case you missed it (I’m sure most of you didn’t), AG Bill Barr has instructed U.S. Attorney John Durham to review the 2016 DOJ and FBI surveillance of the Trump campaign.
As a Facebook friend said, Durham had to clean up the mess that Mueller left in the Whitey Bulger case, so what do you imagine he thinks of Mueller?
Mollie Hemingway’s take:
Don’t try this at home. Watching it gives me stomach butterflies.
I don’t know much about this, but if the information is helpful please pass it on.
This woman, Rashida Tlaib, claims that the Palestinians sheltered the Jews during WWII. Her exact statement:
“There’s always kind of a calming feeling, I tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” Tlaib said.
“And, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And, I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways, but they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.”
Since the Palestinian leadership during World War II actually worked with Adolf Hitler, I don’t understand her comments. Perhaps she is just ignorant of history, or thinks the rest of us are.

Have a great day, everybody! Don’t stop being curious!

The replies to Chaffetz’s tweet are priceless, mostly having to do with “Barr.” This may be the most intriguing –
As for Brit Hume – why jump off a perfectly good solid mountain peak to climb in an unstable plane with possible maintenance issues with an unknown pilot with possible stability issues?
This response to Hume’s tweet was best. imo
No comment on Talib Whosits, other than to agree wholeheartedly with Mr Schwartz.
Thanks for an uplifting post, Stella, these were great.

The way the Republicans Tlaib is embarrassing. I think we all know by now, or should, that she, like OMAR and Cortez, was hand picked by the Justice Democrats to push hate, FAR Left insanity, and more hate. She needs to be removed from office…BUT her comments about Jews are not anti-semitic. If they are, can someone rationally explain why or how? NO. I think the “calming feeling” she spoke of was just part of some benign stream of consciousness that meant nothing we can expect to understand. Making it into a HUGE horror story is such transparent fabrication by the Republicans, and it is beneath their dignity to play this way. The woman is in league with the Justice Democrats and many of them are criminals, Nazi lovers. SHe must have REAL weakness to discover and use to impeach her.

The problem with her comments was the mischaracterization of the part “Palestinians” played in WWII and post-war Israel. I’m sure you are aware of the part that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem played as an ally of Nazi Germany and an enemy of the Jews. If you don’t, I will be happy to expound on it. After the war, he was forced to flee to Egypt to seek protection from prosecution for war crimes.
What she was trying to say is that her people, the Palestinians, were FORCED to allow the Jews to settle in Israel. That is a matter up for debate, but the people living in Palestine were not responsible in any way for providing a safe haven for the Jews. If it were up to them, Israel would not exist at all.
And, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews…I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways, but they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.
The facts are that the Balfour Declaration was a public statement issued by the British government in 1917 during World War I announcing support for the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine, then an Ottoman region with a small minority Jewish population. It was opposed by both Christians and Muslims then living in Palestine.
After WWI, the League of Nations gave control over Palestine to the British.
Palestinian Arabs, desiring political autonomy and resenting the continued Jewish immigration into Palestine, disapproved of the mandate outlined in the Balfour Declaration, and by 1936 their dissatisfaction had grown into open rebellion.
The Peel Commission published its report in July 1937. The report admitted that the mandate was unworkable because Jewish and Arab objectives in Palestine were incompatible, and it proposed that Palestine be partitioned into three zones: an Arab state, a Jewish state, and a neutral territory containing the holy places. Although the British government initially accepted these proposals, by 1938 it had recognized that such partitioning would be infeasible, and it ultimately rejected the commission’s report.
The most that “Palestinians” would agree to is that Jews already there before the Balfour Declaration (and their descendants) could stay and become citizens. No more Jews would be allowed.
Sounds welcoming, doesn’t it? /sarc
Nevertheless, in May 1948, Israel became an independent state after Israel was recognized by the United Nations as a country in its own right within the Middle East.
United Nations Resolution 181, passed by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1947 that called for the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, with the city of Jerusalem as a corpus separatum (Latin: “separate entity”) to be governed by a special international regime.
The point of all of this history is that she either knows nothing about the history of the region, or she thinks that we don’t. She might be right about that, because most people don’t know the history of Palestine and Israel.

The Nazis proposed (1938 at the Evian conference) sending all of the European Jews to Madagascar. No Jews were invited to that conference.

PS: If the Arabs had accepted the original boundaries that the UN set up, they would have much more land today. Instead, they (meaning Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Algeria etc) fought the Israelis and lost more and more land – in 1949, 1956 and 1967.

Clarification, please, Doc. What is the word left out of your first sentence…”treat” or “see” or what?
Tlaib’s comments about Jews–and let’s just throw out the word “anti-Semitic” because people get all in a twist about it–ARE anti-Jew and the Palestinians including Tlaib claim to be victims of the Jews.
A person could create a 40-page dissertation on all the reasons why what she is saying about victimization is tommyrot–not to say that human nature being what it is there was not some victimization of individuals. On the whole, however, that is not true.
Frankly, I don’t believe she means a word of what she says about the horror of the Holocaust. The “calming feeling” is perverse and, IMO, shows that she is incapable of throwing off her brainwashing. Killing Jews REMAINS a tenet of every organization to which she belongs, including Islam. So let’s just chalk up her verbalizations about that to taqiyya–the Allah-approved lying to infidels so that political jihad can continue with the goal of world domination while pulling the wool over foolish people’s eyes. The stronger they get politically, the more violent jihad will be the norm.
Every so many years we have to fight this battle over again when some Jew-hater becomes prominent. The fact that Democrats are participating in this claptrap shows how far gone they are morally. It’s disgusting and sickening, and thank God President Trump is having none of it!

This is Michael Medved at michaelmedved.com for Townhall.
Representative Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan, has delivered some of the most ignorant and incoherent statements ever made about the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. She claims that the re-emergence of the Jewish state was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews and then adds, “and I love the fact that it was my ancestor Palestinians that provided that right.” Of course, this ignores the genocidal riots by Palestinians that killed thousands of Jewish civilians in the 1920’s and 30’s before a Jewish state was established, and before even a single Palestinian had become a refugee. Palestinians never provided a safe haven for Jews, but in fact supported Nazis that encouraged the holocaust, while doing their level best to shut all routes of escape from Hitler’s inferno. What’s most striking about Representative Tlaib’s indefensible anti-Semitic gibberish is not its malevolence, but its breathtaking stupidity.
