Folks in the state better pray hard that Trump and presidents who follow keep the oil and offshore oil industry alive or Louisiana will go bankrupt. The state’s relied on the oil industry to keep it afloat for decades, in the mid-80s when the oil industry left the city due to conditions here and the ship building industry tanked the state took a big hit but NOLA almost went under.
The wages paid to oil industry related workers, services to the industry and the various taxes placed on oil are what the state primarily exists on. If oil goes the state’s primary primary export will be unemployed workers looking for a job and with an illiteracy rate at about 20% statewide and much higher in the major cities I wouldn’t count on seeing hi-tech industry pouring in.
So if oil crashes the state’s primary industry will be foreign and domestically owned refineries and chemical plants who are here because the state’s environmental laws allow them to get away with sloppy practices they can’t get away with anywhere else.
