Companion Planting: Why Vegetables Need Friends
Flowers: they’re not just pretty to look at, they can really help to improve the way we grow our fruits and vegetables.
In this short video we’ll show you how to harness the power of flowers to deter pests, attract beneficial insects including pollinators, and even improve your soil.
If you love growing your own food, why not take a look at our online Garden Planner which is available from several major websites and seed suppliers:

I gardened organically back in the 70’s and used companion planting. It worked really well. The only real problem I had was the ants getting my okra. I finally had to sprinkle bone meal around each plant each day after I watered. That stopped the ants cold. But I had a beautiful garden.

Sounds lovely, aus. Ants have their place in creation, but NOT in your vegetables…lol! Otherwise, working the soil can be quite calming.
My paternal grandfather always had his front and side yards planted with big sunflowers, sweet peas, geraniums and other colorful plants surrounding his vegetable garden. That was very much a tradition of his Southern family.

Hedging to conceal the foundation on the west is in, fruit trees for this year are in, tomatoes are in, grape vines are in. Next the peppers, beans, Russian kiwis and burning bushes for screening. Luckily there aren’t any good movies this weekend.

I’m figuring it’s a marketing tool by the news stations. They’ve been ‘gloom and doomin’ every storm all winter long, telling us how many millions of people are in peril in each storm’s path. They then personalize it by telling YOU that YOU are in integral part of those millions in harm’s way and how they’ll helpYOU save YOURSELF and YOUR lovedones from certain death and destruction.
So the storm has, in our case, 25 mph winds, drops a 1/2 inch of rain and Joe Smith, shoe stocker at Wally-World, can now feel like Rambo.

10 beautiful things
1) Law abiding alligators.
2) The Washington Post’s first response to the Wood/McMurty letter of intent is to state that the Nick Sandmann lawsuit is politically motivated.
😎🙄🤣
I’m not sure that Wood and McMurty could have hoped for a better response. WP response helps make the case against itself.
Who knows maybe WP can’t afford to pay its attorneys and Michael Avenatti is working for them pro bono.
Delicious.
3) James Comey has lost his mind. He is a babbling mass of nonsense. I expect him to break into “🎼 Won’t you be my neighbor 🎼” during an interview any day now.
4) “I am going to be reviewing both the genesis and the conduct of intelligence activities directed at the Trump campaign during 2016.”Attorney General William Barr
More and more Liberal elites are coming to the realization of just how much trouble they are in. Pain is on the way for the criminals who have so richly earned it.
5) The awesomeness of this homemade Orrery cannot be expressed in mere words.
6) The Clintons are getting heckled on their Groupon tour. And Hillary is calling the hecklers
“agent provocateurs.” Such fancifulness from The Beast.
7) Nigel Farage is back to taking a front and center role in the fight for the soul of Britain.
8) President Trump’s tweet excoriating the vile terrorist apologist Omar.
9) As always the Left has fallen into President Trump’s snare. The above video ^ ^ has the Leftist screeching that President Trump is endangering the life of Omar. That screeching has opened the door to a wider audience of holding the MSM and Hollywood accountable for the hate they have fostered in our country against President Trump.
The MAGA crowd is asking of the MSM and Hollywood if the malicious unfounded vitriol that they spewed toward our president is endangering his life.
10) A dew covered Ladybug.

Well well well.
I did quite a bit of reading yesterday and somehow missed this darling little tidbit.
His (Assange) arrest became possible after Ecuador revoked his political asylum, complaining that he was an obnoxious houseguest who didn’t clean up after his cat and that WikiLeaks was plotting to blackmail the Latin American country’s president.
https://apnews.com/98f7ec1528bf4e9d9edd78271c31c16b
The plot thickens.

It’s often small things that cause a person to disrespect another. When I read about Assange not properly taking care of his cat in the way of feeding and clean-up, I realized it didn’t matter to me what tiny bit of good he may have done or possibly will do. He has chosen his life, chose neglect of an animal over caring and loving. Yes, we reveal our character in the small things more often than the large.

I am not standing up for Assange, but………..remember………….THEY lie and lie and lie. We really don’t know yet what the truth is, It may be a long time before we do know. On the other hand, this could be true. 🙄

Morning Tessa 🙂 , I’ve read that article. I would say that article in particular is one the articles that is singing from the same page, it is a narrative that seems to have been started to be pushed in January of 2018.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading and tend to lean toward your opinion of Assange. It is very likely that American patriots were killed because of his carelessness or his malice.
All the good lies are based in a truth, but I’m very doubtful that Julian was as grotesquely hygienic as he is now being portrayed nor do I believe that man who neglected his cat would have made arrangements to have the cat safely leave the embassy with his attorneys in anticipation of his own arrest.
Over the last few days I’ve listened to hours of interviews with Asange spanning years. Brilliant guy, high IQ, anti-American, anti-Trump. A True Believer in many ways.
My question is, why arrest him now? I have my thoughts on that but that is all they are at this point.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I can’t help but feel there are nefarious reasons for arresting him now. They want to stop him from exposing any more of the whole Clinton cabal.

Thanks to all my clever friends here at Stella’s for funny, informative, beautiful and intelligent comments. Just think – Stella’s could be riddled by trolls – but isn’t.
I moved my tomato plants out to the top of my patio table yesterday, but they are in a make-do greenhouse made out of a large clear storage container. It’s still a bit coolish, so we will see how they do. They really needed the sunshine, because I started them too early in my zeal for Spring! I repotted some into 6″ pots the other day, and those are taking off, and getting awfully tall. Repotted some peppers, and they look good too, and started some others. I have three varieties, and curious to see how they all do. Two of the varieties are small and will do well in containers; one is a jalapeno, and the other is a small orange pepper that looks hot, but isn’t, called Tangerine Dream.
Happy gardening to all!

Morning Stella! My birthday is in between your mother’s and father’s birthdays! Every spring I get a birthday email/coupon, from my favorite local nursery. I used the discount to get all my flowers for spring! So fun! Still haven’t gotten brave enough to do any real gardening, but it’s been rainy on the weekends, which is the only time I could do it. I may pick up some organic veggies already growing in pots and see how they do.

We’ll look forward to your tribute to your father on Fathers’ Day, Stella. Having wonderful memories is such a gift! What’s really terrific about great memories is that the remembered person didn’t set out one day to give you a happy memory…he just went about being the good and kind person he was with no pretense or plan. Priceless!
BTW, when I saw the name for your small orange pepper plant, Tangerine Dream, of course I wondered if the electronic music group of the same name took their moniker from the pepper. So I looked it up and the answer is “no.” Instead it’s: “As members of the group came and went, the direction of the music continued to be inspired by the Surrealists, and the group came to be called by the surreal-sounding name of Tangerine Dream, inspired by mis-hearing the line “tangerine trees and marmalade skies” from The Beatles’ track ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’.” (Wikipedia)

Yours and others stories about happy family and childhood lives never bore me and I doubt they bore anyone else. I refrain from comment only because that kind of childhood is totally foreign to me and my stories aren’t pleasant. I do however, enjoy reading them and imagining what that must have been like for you. I am far past those days and now can understand why some are so joyful about their past. It’s never boring and I find it quite fascinating actually, to see what others had. I always saw it but never grasped it as a youth. I enjoy your stories, keep telling them.

We had a delicious breakfast at a little diner near where we are house hunting. Rural area near a small town. Cost under fifteen dollars.
Been a long time since I was in a place like that. One family, three generations of men, and a few women, said grace at a big table near us. I hadn’t noticed but I guess almost every man in the place had a ball cap on. And every one near who heard that, every generation from the two old men with canes propped up to the handsome young man with his mama whipped those hats off immediately when the praying started.
I sure like small town people. And diners. And biscuits. It was a good start to the day.

That sounds like a great area to be moving to. 🙂

P. S. No Mexican restaurants around here open for breakfast. No one would ever go there for breakfast.

Good morning, nyet! Along with the strawberries on top of the grapefruit, please slather some honey and I’ll be ready for my trip to Idaho’s 9,150 foot high Bald Mountain…
…in south central Idaho near Ketchum where I may (or may not) do some hiking…
…or I perhaps just visit the Ernest Hemingway Memorial near Ketchum…
Whatever, it should be a fun time in the Smoky Mountains of the Sawtooth National Forest…
Thanks, buddy!

They are all laughing at the stupid Americanos! Yes, absolutely release these hitmen in San Francisco…first taking the children from them and placing the poor brutalized little ones in loving protective custody. Let the disgusting Dems squeal about “separating children from their parents”!

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

It was much easier to post the prayers tonight than last night. The Dr. had given me a muscle relaxer because I was complaining about having some weird headaches and she thought it might me from tense muscles. I took one last night to see how I would handle it. Not well. Within a few minutes my mouth was so dry I could hardly talk, and when I did it sounded like I was drunk. Also, I had trouble staying awake and was so weak all over that I could hardly move. I also started sweating. It was awful. I went to bed early because I was afraid if I waited I wouldn’t be able to get up the stairs. I felt weird and uneasy all night along with sweating. I woke up fine this morning, though. Won’t be taking that again and I will have the doc put it on my chart. 🙄

I’m so glad you’re okay, auscitizenmom. Please have them put in your records that you can’t ever take that again.

I intend to. I had taken a muscle relaxer after an accident back in the 70’s. It did nothing but stop the pain I was having. This is something even my friend who knows a lot of pharmaceutical terms had never heard of, Tizanidine. Probably some new designer drug. I try to avoid taking anything unless I have to because I have had bad reactions to many things. I only tried this because I thought I might have some mobility problems after my flight.

Sorry that you had such an awful experience Aus. My mother in law, more often than not has awful reactions to prescription drugs.
I’m happy you took good care of you, I hope you find the source of your headaches and a way to cure them.
If it is stress simply stretching exercises can help.

The headaches are new and different, but not terrible and come and go. I don’t usually take anything, but thought it would be good to have something in case I had a problem on the trip.

I hope they go away soon, especially since they are new. You have probably already thought of this but did you change shampoo, laundry detergent or anything like that lately? I’m very sensitive to odors and can get a terrible headache from perfumed products.

No, but my bp is up which is unusual.

It might be something as simple as the rainy season coming soon. 🙄 The dr said to come back after the trip to ck on the bp again.

Hopefully your visit will help get your body out of whatever mode it is in right now.

Have you changed any meds, including over the counter meds? Added any vitamins or any kind of supplements?

Nope. Can’t think of anything that I have changed at all.

Juices, food of any kind?

Nope. As far as the headaches go, it might be the rain coming in. I usually have one before a storm comes in.

Have you has headaches before from rain, cuz you said they were new?

Yes, I grew up in FL and I would have a headache and my teeth would ache really badly before a storm came in. 🙄 That is normal. And, we havne’t really been having them until recently this year. That is why I usually ignore them.
