got up yesterday and attended for first time a 6:30 AM men’s breakfast meeting at the church…had attended a 5 PM worship special time on Sunday, and everyone was so welcoming and friendly that I felt right at home. Have not been a church goer since my youth days except to coerce my kids to go find Jesus which did not work all that well.
Now, at age 77 and some health issues, I decided to go join the real world of loving people that choose not to worry about Washington or the Media or etc….but to join in friendship and companionship and joy.
best thing I have ever done.
nice to find friends like I have on Stella’s
turns out there are a lot out there, but I have to go find them on my own….adulthood comes around pretty late for some of us
    blessings to all
(and to the furry animals that we love so much)

The Ovcharka, my ideal dog but it’s life would be miserable down here in the heat and humidity.

I first heard of these waaaay back in the Cold War when we were doing some work on Russian military dogs. Some of the troops were becoming dog handlers due to getting extra rations but some weren’t really dog-people and couldn’t be a alpha to these strong willed mutts. There were a lot of stories about the dogs attacking the handlers, handlers’ families or others and taking over the family dinner table and eating everything on it.

They live on in their military plus they work in some of Russia’s notorious prisons. Some of the more isolated prisons, especially high security ones, have kennels with the Ovcharkas in them. A prisoner escapes and the warden doesn’t bother sending out a search party, he releases a pack of Ovcharkas who track the escapee down and…let’s just say they bring him back.

They are a magnificent and ancient dog and one of my regrets is we don’t live in an area where they’d be comfortable.
