Watching ‘Interview With the Vampire’. It’s not a particularly super movie but it came out the same year I started doing security at Ann Rice’s parties.

That’s a part of New Orleans that’s gone now, her parties had an earthy kind of decadence, like when she’d let her guests take her fine china out to the street to watch the parades go by or, in the spirit of the season, pardoned guests who stole her silverware (it wasn’t from Walmart ) of the pickpocket we caught working the sidewalk where her guests were watching the parade. Or that monstrously huge rolling gangplank she had built that rolled out over the wall in front of her ‘party’ house on St Charles that allowed her to climb up and over the wall and the crowds below so that she could personally toast the krewe kings. Or the time she ran out of food and she ordered a truck full of pizzas that were delivered through a parade.

All gone now, we’re back to largely outsiders who fly in to ride the parades (too expensive for most locals), sidewalks stuffed with more drunk tourists who’re largely indistinguishable from drunken locals – though locals do have more unique transportation devices for their drinks. Ah well, there seems to be a resurgence in smaller and unique walking parades that don’t have the huge and expensive floats and accompanying bands but there are some of us grumpy old farts who believe the city pols will strangle them as they did so many other lesser but old time parades as they can’t monetize them. Hail wrecks!

    • It’s sad when traditions change or go away. I never went to Mardi Gras, but many of my friends went every year when I was growing up. At least I’ve gotten to enjoy some King cake and my share of Mardi Gras beads as my friends would share them upon return.

There are still some of the traditional actors as there are drunken college kids driving straight through to spend a week sleeping in their cars and vomiting on our sidewalks,
The city pols don’t see it anymore as a family affair, it’s an adult bacchanalia with parade krewes more limited to those who can spend thousands a year out-of-pocket (and some are MANY thousands) to belong. It generates big $$$ for city coffers. Actually many of the big fests in and associated with the city are too expensive for most residents, they’re strictly money makers.
The cities of Metairie and Gretna, adjacent to NOLA, get many city residents as they advertise and hold ‘family friendly’ celebrations. They don’t tolerate public drunkenness with all of the civilized-people unfriendly behaviors that come with that. People, especially those you would really rather not see in various stages of undress, are required to stay reasonably clothed of be jailed.

2 )HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th. It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)

Apparently the liberals are losing their minds over this tweet? I see “Hold the Date” trending on the Twit and find out that the shrill delusional minions of the Left are taking to the Twitterverse to school President Trump on the importance of The 4th of July.

They fall for it every single time, hook, line and sinker.

    4 ) Fluffy towels.

5 ) R Kelly has spent more than 48 hours in jail. His attorney claims that he does not have the $100,000 bond to make bail.

Attorney Greenberg says R. Kelly “really doesn’t have any money at this point. I don’t think he even owns the rights to ‘I believe I can fly.’”

Someone said this is Kelly’s 3rd attorney in two years ante really is broke. (Broke or laundering cash so when the civil suits come in the court has a harder time tracking down his money?)

    I don’t know. I hadn’t heard of him until surviving R Kelly.

Greenberg does not seem to be a top notch attorney.

Had this have happened in some more liberal state the stepfather would have been charged with leaving a loaded weapon within easy access of a minor and the child, and family by extension, been charged criminally with some version of aggravated battery (with attendant civil suit) for using deadly force on a perp no longer being a threat to the shooter.

Corps of Engineers is looking at opening some 200 of the 350 bays on the Bonnet Carre spillway next week. THe spillway was built to take the pressure of high water on the Mississippi off of the levees in New Orleans and the river’s expected to reach flood stage (17 feet above sea level) early in the week. At 17 feet the water flow is such that it not only puts great pressure on the levees above the concreted areas but can undermine the levees and drop them into the Mississippi. In the early days of NOLA the river undercut an area on Algiers Point and dropped a few acres right into the river.

Funny thing about this high water is that you can be walking on Decatur Street, which parallels the river just a stone throw away, and watch oceangoing ships floating by over your head – the water behind the levees is that high.

The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) noted a visit from a bat recently. They called the local bat rescue organization, which sent over a trained volunteer, who took it home to her bat rescue & will release when it is ready. 😊She named it Merlin, after the museum’s acronym. The bat has been issued a library card from the museum. The British are such a trip! You can follow this on Twitter.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
