    Forgive more of my ranting, but these Oklahoma teachers and superintendents along with their idiotic unions are getting on my last nerve. They just keep adding to their demands and they’re a bunch of liars. They lying is what gets on my nerves the most. I explained to one of them who were too damn stupid to understand how teacher’s salaries work. The state sets the minimum salary for teachers and then each school district sets their teachers’ salary and raises, they can pay more the minimum but not less. Each school gets X amount of dollars based on number of students. I don’t see many of these superintendents pushing these teachers to strike asking for their salaries cut to make more money available for teachers.
    Now this bs that Oklahoma teachers salaries are last in the nation. They’re not even last if you take the average, but if you take the minimum salary although nowhere near the top, they’re not last.
    Montana, South Dakota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Idaho and Mississippi all have lower starting salaries than Oklahoma.
    It’s the same as their push for the last tax increase voted on by the people to increase funding for schools and they were claiming teachers live in poverty and are eligible for welfare. All lies.
    The same as their bs we don’t want to walk out on our kids, but we have to in order to fight for our kids, because our kids deserve better. How exactly does your income increasing help your students? Is $10,000 more a year going to suddenly make you a better teacher? The largest school in my county that ranks in the top 5 of teacher salaries in the state, has had a total of 4 teachers fired and charged with child rape this year for molesting their students. Another teacher fired for showing porn to 5th grade students. 20% of their 5th grade students can’t read at a 3rd grade level.

      60,000 public schools in the country. Do the math.

      The Catholic Church. Remember that scandal? I read a reliable study that concluded that the public schools’ students were — not twice — but — 100 times more likely to be molested or raped by their staff than at a Catholic school or church.

      Protestant churches were something like 50 times more.

      Hollywood and TV studios? Slim to none chance your kid won’t be molested or raped.

      Who went after the Church most viciously? Yeah, Hollywood and TV.

      The public school system needs to be abolished. They don’t teach kids, they use them.

        There is truth in what you say Wooly, and I do know that coverage of all these other abuses of children has been non-existent mostly. However, nothing at all ever excuses the coverup by the bishops. That alone makes the abuse in the Catholic Church as heinous and evil as any ever propagated by mankind.

        You see, bishops are not just overseers, or the religious equivalent of a CEO. Yes, they are very much in charge of the logistics and finances of their diocese, but they are literally the descendents of the apostles of Christ and as such they hold sacred responsibility for the welfare of their charges, be they priests, deacons, and other religious, and also all the lay people. Their most important duties are in shepherding the flock which makes them responsible for teaching the faith, but also for the final welfare of the people, a sacred trust.

        Not all bishops were guilty, just as the vast majority of priests are men of wonderful character. But in my mind, because of the cover up, and the moving around that enabled abusers to still be active, the Catholic Church is the worst example of preying on children. I don’t really care about statistics, I care about the depth of complicity in evil.

        By that argument I suppose one could hold teachers and educators also as culpable. But they are not people who have taken sacred vows in an unbroken tradition for 2000 years. I am sticking with my vote against the Church and the bishops, as well of course against the guilty priests.

        I doubt there are any people who said “I am quitting school because this teacher slept with a 13 year old boy, and I will never allow my kids to go to school.” How many good people lost faith in the Church, and even in God, because of the evil actions of these people? How much has the Church as a whole, even those of us who chose to stay, suffered because of this? How many millions spent in reparations (which repair nothing but of course should indeed have been paid out) and parishes lovingly built by immigrants and supported proudly by their descendents closed? How many truly innocent priests punished, put out of the Church, and even some imprisoned because money grubbing opportunists saw that the Church was opposing nothing and considering everyone guilty, and so they saw an opportunity to seek some easy cash? How much has the Church, which should stand as a bastion of truth and goodness, which should speak with the authority of Christ on Earth in times of crisis and in leadership, been discredited? These are just a tip of the iceberg to the damage done to people all across the world, and to the Church herself.

        To those whom much is given, and Catholics are given very much indeed, much is expected. They spectacularly and in a most evil way, failed.

          And, well said.

          But if you have a kid in a public school, he or she is 100x more likely to be molested or worse than if he or she were in a Catholic Diocese.

          Basically, the Catholic church and its affiliates, church and school and extracurricular, are the absolute safest place for your kids outside the family.

          Far safer than Protestant orgs, way the heck safer then public schools, and the exact opposite of TV and Hollywood.

          And the Catholic Church is who all of the above focused on in the 80s and 90s.

          While they were (and are) the forest going after the sapling.

      Persecution of Christians is nothing new, of course; though it has been relatively restrained in America until recent decades.

      Instances of persecution abound, both past and present. During the reign of Louis XIV of France, the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, which had offered some protection of the Huguenot minority, meant Protestants were deprived of any rights whatever. The Sun King’s enforcer, Cardinal de Richelieu, succeeded in breaking any political power held by Huguenots by banning them from holding public office and by decreeing their children be taken from their homes to be instructed in the tenets of the Catholic faith, which was to be absolute.

      In similar manner, America’s Christian parents, protestant and Catholic alike — most of whom do not have affordable and easily accessible alternatives — find their children forcibly instructed in the tenets of New Paganism in public schools. The doctrines of the New Paganism, including polytheistic multiculturalism, moral relativism, and political correctness exclude teaching of Christian principles.

    I made an order with TOYSRUS since they are closing. Those of you who have any interest in going, the liquidators have already taken over. They arent doing sales or promotions or rewards. Things are flying off the shelves and then in a couple weeks they will decide what “sales” still need to be done. Im lucky I got what I did get. Amazon wasnt cheaper for once. Just fyi if you want to get something specific.

    Good grief. Celtic Thunder has is unrecognizable. The only original member left is Damian McGinty the chap who was tossed out by the band’s founder because he was too much of an assh*le.

    I’m watching them on PBS (renounced) and I have muted every single song so far. Right now they’re doing a number where Damian is dressed like a school girl or something odd bell bottom floods, plaid border on a white crop top, and white platform shoe.

    Singing Dat Dream Believer now dressed like The Monkeys and making goofy faces as they sing.

    Not a single Celtic song so far all pop music and boppy 80’s stuff.

    What a disappointment.
