      Yeah, Comus and Rex are two of the old and traditional krewes, not like the newer glitz ones. They have the traditional balls while the big, flashy newer ones have huge ‘anyone with the $$$ can come parties’.
      I think I’ve posted it before but one of my favorite Mardi Gras parade ideas was Ann Rice who once said she’d like to have her own parade where everyone would wear a mask and when the parade ended at the Mississippi downtown the members would light their masks on fire and throw them into the river. Not a bad idea if you’re not enamored with the regular ending of getting drunk, puking all over your shoes and having a Texas size hangover for two days.

        Morning, sand! I love The Antiques Roadshow, both the U.S. version and especially the U.K. because their venues are so fabulous…and you never know when the Queen will pop around as she’s apparently a fan.

    I don’t know former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. I’ve never met him. But I was supposed to. I was in an FBI car last June on my way to meet him and other top law enforcement leaders at a counterterrorism communications training event at the 9/11 Museum in New York City when McCabe suddenly ordered me not to show up. The car pulled up outside the museum and I was told not to come inside. I took a taxi back to my hotel and went home.

    Based on my one and only experience with McCabe, it proved to me that he has a “circle the wagons and protect James Comey at all costs” approach that is inconsistent with the type of behavior our nation should expect from a man who, at the time, was leading the FBI.

    Here’s what happened …

      Seems as though there are a lot of these tough guys with terribly thin skin up in the swamp. Power through intimidation, but if you punch ’em in the nose one time, they’ll cry like a school girl. They’re bullies with a badge, and not much else.

      Well, that’s interesting.

      The last line brings up another point: “The FBI I know is better than this.”

      The FBI….or the Congress……or the Sheriff that any individual “knows” is not relevant in these kinds of messes. Past construct, prior ethical behavior does not guarantee current quality. Whenever that statement is used, I get the feeling it has to do with denial of reality.

      Perhaps the FBI that Mr. Fleischer “knows” is not the one that exists today.

        Actually the Bureau has a whole trash line of screwups behind it yet the press tends to report them, in a minor way, and then bury them. I’m wondering how much of that deference is due to the Bureau freezing non-sycophant media out, media being afraid to cross the Bureau or both.

    “Badlands” – The First Four Minutes – with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek who are absolutely first rate. Based on a true story, the film is unforgettable.

    “Murder My Sweet” – a stylized film noir type of private eye/murder mystery starring Dick Powell and Claire Trevor – from the book by Raymond Chandler and full of his snappy dialogue.

        I read all of his novels and loved them.

        Over at CTH I mentioned what great independent bookstores L.A. used to have. The Chandler novels in paperback were purchased at Pickwick Books on Hollywood Boulevard which had three stories of books on every subject imaginable.

        You could spend a whole day in there just looking around. That’s also where I bought all the Dorothy Sayers novels with her central character, Lord Peter Wimsey, a private detective. Those paperbacks were literally falling apart when I finally gave them to a neighbor who read voraciously and hadn’t read anything by Sayers.

    I’d like to ask what might be an Unpopular Question: so following the Nassar incident, the president of MSU had to resign. But why? MSU didn’t run the program, did it? I thought the program was just housed there.

    Was the president of MSU supposed to divine via ESP that this abuse was going on and put a stop to it?
