Mine doesn’t acknowledge the existence of balls. I accidentally bonked her on her head with one and she didn’t wince, move, or anything. They just don’t exist. LOL
Daisy will chase a ball, bring it back and play ‘try and take it’, you tell her ‘drop it’ and sh will – then she’ll walk away. BD will look at it like it’s part of the environment and totally ignore it. Chez-Chez (aka Cheesy) will chase it until it stops, then ignore it. Lucky will chase it, xhew it to pieces and leave it where it lay. Only way they’ll retrieve is if they can get an Uber to deliver for them.
I think it helps if they get used to the game as a pup, after they grow up it looks like they don’t quite get it”’or want to. Also helps if you have a retriever breed.
My black lab is not big on chasing balls or sticks. The German Shepherd who identifies as a Golden Retriever has no stop button when it comes to chasing down anything thrown.
I really wish I had a robot to throw for her, over and over, just to see how long she could keep it up.
Zauber was a chasing fool, he’d pick up stuff and bring it to you to throw, we still laugh about his picking up a 6-foot 2×4 and bringing it to us to throw.
