My sled dog competes with this. His coat has 4 layers which come off in sheets twice a year. It’s referred to as “blowing” the coat.

That’s a lot of hair, but I can see it serves a purpose in sled dogs. The doc in the picture is a Shiba Inu. I have a Shiba Beagle mix (according to the dog rescue) she does have a lot of hair but it is smooth and nothing like this sweetie.
Hmm… I wonder what Shiba’s were bred for.

Hunting. Japanese are big dog people, almost bought a Tosa Inu but there were pedigree problems…bought Zauber instead.
