There is merit in that study, though. Yes, there are naturally shy people. Or cowards, if you prefer that term. And yet… see a large group of dindoos, avoid eye contact at your peril. Look ’em straight in the eye. You run, they jump. Like a dog on a rabbit. If you avoid eye contact reflexively, you are signaling fear.

“How you doin’, fellas?” with a firm nod and a kind smile.

In this state, they don’t know if I’m carrying or not. Avoiding eye contact has nothing to do with racism, and everything to do with people knowing what happened to Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, and a hideous B on W story in the news every single night, and being justifiably afraid of black people in groups.

Most of my co-workers are black. We look each other in the eye.

But do you know what? Most of the inevitable dindoos — who actually did do — we see every night or on Drudge in the morning? They don’t work, so I’m unlikely to ever encounter these specimens. My n’as call me “fam”.

teaching in high school…when getting a discipline correction comment, the minority kids, boy and girls…do not look you in the eyes, even when you tell them to do so…they look around to see what their buddies are doing and how they are reacting. doesn’t change because they are no longer in school. I look everyone directly in the eye, even if just scanning a crowd. the eyes tell it all.

Okay, now I am LOL. I just heard on FOX and FRIENDS that a deaf org. is wanting us to not clap, but do jazz hands. And, I thought at that time that these groups are going to start slamming into each other. I mean, is jazz hands discriminating against blind people who won’t know what is going on? And, now autism against a really stupid suggestion about eye contact. LOL I can’t wait for the rest of the conflicts to crop up.

Another thought. I don’t know why deaf people want to use jazz hands, other than it makes it something special for them. I mean, they can see you clap. They can clap. What was the problem?

Isn’t jazz hands cultural appropriation of black music? Why do deaf people hate black people? I’m so confused. Maybe I should just use one hand, with a universally recognized gesture that all the perpetually aggrieved groups will instantly recognize?

Sooooooooo….as the article admits, the autistic ‘sometimes’ have difficulty maintaing eye contact how aggressive should one be in attempting to get/maintain/regain eye contact with someone who does not want to have eye contact?
Since the autism industry has been so aggressive in mining….errr…expanding the definition of sutism as widely and deeply as they can, what about those who find assertively trying to maintain eye contact aggressive?
When will they start getting on us for our lack of proper interpersonal relationship with those in a persistent vegetative state?

When autism first was discovered and made trendy about the time Rain Man came out, I discovered a statistic. Autism diagnoses exploded, and yet mental retardation diagnoses shrinked to absolutely none, at the same rate.

Hmm… We should brag, as a society! We cured mental retardation in a two decades! It doesn’t exist any more! It’s like TB, or malaria! We fought the battle and won!

But then. In a world… where pharmaceutical companies make vaccines to protect us and save us from debilitating, painful, and deadly disease… while making money, which is evil… unless you’re an entertainer or sports star… Autism rises.

But hey! We beat mental retardation! Now to tackle ADHD and Aspergers.

Somehow I am reminded of the insane phrase “Shaken Baby Syndrome”.

It’s not a “syndrome”, whatever that means. It’s a person wrongly shaking a baby because they don’t like the wailing and fussing, and causing the baby to die.

          Now? It’s in the DSM.

‘Mental retardation’ industry got too complacent and the ‘autism spectrum disorder’ folks done snuk up and stole a bunch of stuff off their plate. Despite all the ‘awwwww’ warm puppy commercials it’s an industry where emotions are leveraged for cash, much of which never makes it past the accounts of the managers.
Czarina was a co-director of a state facility for the developmentally disabled for many years and, just after she retired, the state suddenly decided to dump every state-owned DD facility into the laps of private contractors. The contractors political ties to certain people in the state aside, it saved the state millions. The resident’s quality of care dropped and their status became more one of warehousing than treatment but what the hey, it saved the state $$$$$ and made the contractors $$$$$.
It’s all about $$$$$, my GGS’s school even tried to say that instead of his diagnosed ADHD thry were going to test him for ASD. We got ahead of that, had him tested by a private MD without a self-serving agenda, and took the test results back showing he was a normal 4th grader with ADHD, zactly what his original tests showed. I’m betting the object was to get as many kids as the can recast into a new group they can get extra Federal dollars to deal with. The regular lump pool of funds for ‘problem’ kids doesn’t go far enough so they have to be creative in generating new funds. That their efforts would mark kids forever as ‘mentally challenged’ and effect their treatment by the system from thereon out doesn’t matter…it’s for the greater good$.
Years ago, when I was still going to med insurance-related conferences, we’d hit the hospitality suites run by pharma…they had all the best stuff. We’d be drinking their name-brand booze late at night and listening to equally sotted drug reps telling us how the notion of ‘cures’ was passé, the namevof the game was now ‘longterm management’. There was nowhere near the money in curing someone as there was in managing that person’s condition for as long as possible. We have armies of folks managing the developmentally disabled, many to a ridiculous degree, and pharma developing an endless stream of ‘new and better’ drugs to do whatever. Now the ASD folks get to jump onto the cash train so the larger the entourage they bring along the larger bite of the pie they’ll hope for.

LOL @0:52. Biggest trailer cliche ever, pluralized. “In worlds…”

Every deep-voiced trailer narrator has to HAS TO begin the trailer with “In a world….” with Jack Palance’s voice cranked down an octave.

When I lost my voice 4 or 5 years ago, and started to get it back, I could have voiced movie trailers like a pro. “In a world…. where marsupials have learned martial arts and dolphins are hacking cellphone apps…. One man stands between… Life… and eternal Chaos….”

But you always have to start with “In a world…”

And on the eve of a potentially wet one. Local weatherguessers are caught twixt the need to blow smoke up the combined posteriors of the tourists at Jazz Fest regarding approaching storms and honestly telling locals to put floatation gear on their ducks. So far, or at least over the last three days, the estimates of rainfall have run from ‘jes a skosh’ to that duck thing I mentioned previously.
I do believe it was last Jazz Fest the skies opened up and they had to cancel it. Attendees stayed away in droves and the organizers had to issue rainchecks for this year. The Fest used to be a local thing before organizers smelled money, locals are used to being drunk and wet, but apparently the more civilized non-Southerers find being damp almost a sin. OK, the northerners don’t sweat sin, but it’s something like that.
I’ll let ya know if the critters start showing up on our patio asking for sanctuary. We are big on granting sanctuary to edibles.

missing a connection vs flying in urine soaked pants for three hours and then having to stand around a terminal with a wet crotch while everyone looks harshly at you…and then having the TSA grope a wet crotch seems extreme, vs just using the airplane lav for a couple of seconds.

Then Brannif airlines competed for the route, and cut fares…so Southwest countered with You can pay the cheap Branniff rates, or pay our full fare, but when you get off the plane, we give you a fifth of really good whiskey…since everyone was on an expense account, they paid the full fair and took the booze. My southern boundary is across the street from my very dear neighbors. the wife has MS and has a very low immune system. They are also extremely poor. I went into town today and bought a bunch of Mosquito Beater pods and they are being distributed to the standing water as we speak.
We have verified West Nile and Zika in our area. I pray we can knock down the mosquito population so that we have no further problems in my area. I have lived here since 1987 and have never seen this much water!

That’s what I was thinking, training. You got a Reserve/Air Guard unit around? Moons ago the Air Force used to take all of the crewmembers who didn’t have enough flight time to qualify for flight pay, load ’em all on a plane or two, manifest them as ‘crew’ and go burn holes in the sky until everyone got enough hours.
Also may be pilots getting mandated air time and doing ‘touch and go’ landings/takeoffs to get practice in controlled crashes (landings). Also some aircraft that have undergone maintenance need to be flown yo make sure it doesn’t hit the ground untol the pilot wants it to. I just love the sound.

We have Reserve/Guard fighter aircraft at a base south of the city that are responsible for realtime defense missions in a certain part of the Gulf.
