Nice surprise! My daughter came to stay the night with me, so we had a nice visit. I hadn’t seen her since Christmas. She’s in town for a funeral, so that isn’t a happy event, but it was good to see her.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/03/if_you_set_out_to_destroy_isis_destroy_isis.html

    FTA:

Among Napoleon’s famous maxims was one admonishing the indecisive. “If you set out to take Vienna, take Vienna.” The U.S. Army embodies this maxim in its Field Manual (FM 3-0) with the first of nine basic principles of war: “Direct every military operation toward a clearly defined, decisive and obtainable objective. “

Maxims and principles are fine, but these things are much easier said than done. Any military maneuver involves substantial risk and uncertainty, but the Syrian quagmire complicates operations there. Four national militaries now operate in northern Syria (American, Russian, Turkish, and Syrian) as well as a confusing welter of Syrian rebel groups, Kurdish militias, Syrian auxiliaries (e.g., Hizb’allah) as well as ISIS itself and any allied organizations.

A complete military dilettante, Obama nonetheless dictated strategy and even minor operational decisions against ISIS to the point of counting bombs dropped and the number of Apache attack helicopters permitted in theatre. While the left is fond of making ridiculous comparisons of Trump to Hitler, it was the German dictator and former Bavarian infantry corporal who insisted on shuffling around Nazi battalions rather than letting his more competent generals to conduct operations.

The whole thing is worth a read.

Wooly, yes I do agree, let the Generals apply the warfighting capabilities. All that talk is just that, talk by an armchair want a be. The bottom line is this; its ISIS’s center of gravity. Whether economic, political, logistical, what ever it is, find the center of gravity and kill it. Islam is not the center of gravity. case in point, what about the 1.2 billion Muslins who practice Islam and are not radicalized. Remember Islam is a way of life all encompassing. Step 1 and 2 concurrent; find the center of gravity, assembled the forces needed, Step 3 kill it, Step 4 re-evaluate your plan, ajust plan, kill it.
And another thought, reduce the ROE (rules of engagement), show compassion, but our business is breaking thing and killing. Remember the press report about a month ago, ISIS senior leaders escape Mosul. Wouldn’t had happen if I was Commander. Nobody in or out………
One concurrent thread since the start of the Iraq war, from Iraqee’ “why don’t you fight like you did in WWII”. Dresden fire booming, Then fire booming of Japanese cities.
Turn the sand to glass, then pack up and come home…….

Final IDITAROD update. Yes, the race is still going on. The last 5 teams are between White Mountain and Nome, and the Red Lantern (the final musher) should pass under the burled arch sometime early this afternoon as the 64th team to finish. This group includes the one other team besides Jessie Royer’s that still has all 16 dogs in harness.

Mitch Seavey’s new-record-setting win, at age 57, makes him the oldest Iditarod champion in the race’s history. “Old guys rule!” said one hand-lettered sign at the finish line. Interesting article here:

A memorable Iditarod, even if Aliy didn’t win. Wait’ll next year! Go Aliy!

I’ve been “mudding” and wood-filling. This is harder than it looks on the DIY videos. I’m filling cheap ugly fake paneling with joint compound, and cabinet doors with wood filler. NOT wood putty, wood filler because you cannot sand or paint wood putty.
Elmer’s wood filler is hard as a b!tch to work with – smoothing with water helps. If anybody has any tips I’d be forever grateful.
Great day here, in the low 80’s – spring has sprung in the south. Bought a beautiful white gardenia to go out yonder with the azaleas, hummingbird vines, Carolina jasmine and the crape myrtles. My plant children are outside and watered and small herb garden is next. We’re changing the front yard from St. Augustine to Bermuda, but leaving the back in St. Augustine.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Although the headline is apparent hyperbole, the contents are quite interesting.

Grover Norquist: Here’s what happened this week that guaranteed Trump’s re-election and Republican gains in 2018 and 2020

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/norquist-this-week-guaranteed-trumps-re-election-gop-gains-in-2018-and-2020/article/2617794

Remember the date of March 13, 2017. It was the day President Trump was guaranteed his re-election and Republican congressional gains in 2018 and 2020.

    It’s not complicated. Follow along.

The Congressional Budget Office released its study of Trump and Paul Ryan’s plan to repeal Obamacare and begin to reform our healthcare system. It had many numbers. Only two mattered: taxes and spending.

CBO announced that the repeal bill reduces taxes by almost $900 billion and reduces federal spending by $1.2 trillion over the next decade. This reduces deficit spending by $300 billion over the next 10 years. Thus the CBO, as official umpire, announced that the GOP Obamacare repeal plan may be enacted through “reconciliation,” the process that requires a simple majority in the House and only 51 votes in the Senate. No filibuster allowed.

Perhaps equally important, the $300 billion in deficit reduction gives Republicans a great deal of wiggle room to amend their basic plan to win votes in the House and Senate to win those 218 congressmen and 51 senators. Tax cuts can be added into the mix. Thanks to the CBO score and the underlying power of the legislation, Obamacare repeal will now pass. The path is clear…
