    Stella got her first sub-Q fluid dose from her mom this morning. It went pretty well, except I forgot to warm the fluid, and I stuck myself trying to get the used needle off the line. She squealed a bit when the needle went in, but then she napped (on the sofa with a warm blankey.)

      Squeak was probably from your slight hesitance sticking her for the first time, as you get more confident and comfortable. On mine I’ve come to use the area over the shoulder blades as there seems to be fewer nerve endings there. I pick up a flap of skin with my thumb and first two fingers with a flat side, 90 degrees to the needle, and push thru – Stella will let you know what’s good.
      We kept our old cat’s kidneys functioning for well over a year with sub-q and cats have a greater penchant for falling apart. You also feel less like a helpless onlooker as your pets age.

        Between the shoulder blades is where I put it. It went pretty well, considering it was my first attempt. What you describe is what they taught me at the vet.

          You gotta good vet…learned mine from a vet in the 70s who was already old, also taught me a gazillion ways of dealing with/securing livestock for treatment using ropes. Lotta vets now don’t wantbyounto treat your own animals, too much $$$$$$ in doing it themselves.

        PS: don’t know if they told you but the pinch you use to get that skin up also distracts the pup from the needle. Not too hard but firm enough, pup also gets used to the idea that the pinch means the needle’s next readies for it. Sorry if I repeat stuff you’ve already been told but fluid treatments of my animals has been a longtime ‘pet’ issue with me.

Our homily today was by the SJW deacon. “As Catholics we have an obligation to take part in our political process and to vote.” No suggestion that we should voted for candidates who support life. Ended with a quote from Stephen Colbert (of all people) that if we follow Jesus we should take care of the poor, but we should just go ahead and admit that we don’t want to.

      Really?
