Not so much ‘out of my system’ as I like to use old songs to show a cultural/generational continuity in ignoring onrushing disasters.
The Anglicans at the top seem to be betting they can tame the Islamic snake, that if they pet it, feed it and treat it as a family member it will snuggle up and be part of the family, that it’s all a big misunderstanding. Or their policy may be the result of their close association with the Brit government and governmental policy is flavouring church doctrine.
Scared parishioners who have no ability to resist the Islamization of their countries may feed their denial by having the church’s ‘can’t we all just get along’ doctrine bevone their truth. Seems to me there are some folks who don’t buy that, especially after European Christian ministers are starting to be killed by Moslems right in front of their congregations. Looks like they feel it takes a passionate play to wake the zombies is in order.

This church/priest/denomination have their problems, and I see your points. But that wasn’t why I posted this article.
I was strongly objecting to what the “Party for Freedom” did. I think it was a stupid move on their part, showing extremely bad judgment. What if someone in the congregation had attacked them, believing it to be a potentially dangerous situation? What if someone, or more than one, had been hurt? There is no way to accurately predict what a group of people will do, given any circumstances, let alone threatening ones.
Given the recent attacks in churches, some fatal, one would expect people to keep that in mind. The Party for Freedom’s choice to pretend to be a group of Muslims invading a church and displaying some of their disruptive practices seems to me to be (at the very least) moronically idiotic.

I can see both sides, though I wouldn’t try that in a US church. Western Christians see violent Islam murdering untold thousands of Christians around the world, a fact long concealed by much of the Western press. They look tomtheir Church leaders for guidance and get nothing that makes them feel safebor comfortable.
The major churches are sitting on their thumbs, basically suggesting a latter day version of the Children’s Crusade as the path that Christians are obliged to take, proactive or active self-defense is not allowed.
I don’t find these disruptive demonstrations all that offessive, certainly not as offesnsive as the tortuous word games the Church leaders are playing to justify their inaction in the face of evil. These ‘acrtors’ are frustrated and as it appears that speech in opposition of the suicidal church policy falls on deaf ears they feel this is their only option. More power to them.

Their actions were not offensive to me, per se. In absolute value, as it were. I agree with you, it often takes unexpected things to wake up the sleeping and/or complacent powers-that-be. But IMO, the choice of LOCATION for these actions was foolhardy in the extreme.
I used to be involved in street theater/guerilla theater (in my younger days) so I know the value and utility of such things. But we were neither angling for, nor risking, potential martyrdom. Only in severe extremes would that be anything other than counterproductive. This situation, above, does not fit into that category.

Guerilla theater, THAT was the term I was unsuccessfully reaching for. I guess the location was chosen to make the biggest impact and the possibility that a parishioner or more might have popped a cap in one of the mad hattahs may not have crossed their minds but that’s what the Darwin Awards are for.
I do salute them for at least doing something..

Occasionally, some of the serious conversations here & next door get derailed by over-the-top humor. Comic relief is very valuable, but I get a bit frustrated when a discussion never gets back on track again. I think it happens more ND than here, which is one reason I seldom start discussions over there any more.

Honestly, the biggest most dangerous dullard I see in the entire article is the shepherd leading his sheep to slaughter.
The people dressed up as caricatures of Muslims invading a church are fools who mostly endangered themselves.
Here in my community, I am not sure that some people would have extended the mock Muslims the luxury of the possibility that they were not an imminent danger to the worshipping parishioners. I do not know what I would do, how long does it take to take a gun or knife out from under one of their garments and kill innocents lives? Why would they be rushing into a church where they have already condemned every person in that church to death? Who would take the time, perhaps a time that would be deadly to innocent lives to think, “Wait, this might be a group of numbskulls trying to illustrate a point?” .
Anyhow I hope a Muslim kicks the teeth down the throat of the dangerous shepherd and the shepherd has an epiphany and starts preaching the truth and protecting his flock rather than training them to sacrifice themselves, their lives, their bodies and their children to the god of bullchit.

I know a few guys who open carry, but I for the first time am seeing my fellow citizens open carry, I saw two different people open carrying at a restaurant in Waukesha. I am thinking of open crying myself for a while. If the savages of Milwaukee think they are going to bring their terror here, they are in for a rude awakening, a whole lot of us ready to say not in my town. I know the whole deterrent/target/element of surprise argument but I am leaning toward if they are sending scouts out letting them see we are not sitting ducks.

What you always need to do is to deceive the scouts. Deception plan. Remember the Northfield Raid, James-Younger gang. Quiet small town, citizens walking around unarmed, easy pickings…..that’s why I carry concealed. Old guy, slowly walking along, you can’t see the two colts under my jacket, can you? I got 16 friends who will do the smacking down……

I have always held the same point of view on this Col. but these are different days. I know in the restaurant likely 5 folks were CC people, one guy with the men open carrying had a shoulder holster that people who like to play “Who is carrying” would notice 🙂 .
Does open carry make you a target or a deterrent? That for me is a more perplexing question than it ever has been. And if it makes the OC a target does that mean that while the savages are focused on the OC they are giving CC folks the upper hand in taking aim at the savages?
Just my thoughts.

In my experience, and Czar jump in, open carry does make you a target. Now if you have 3-4 friends open carry, always safely in numbers. I have always preferred CC. An element of surprise after the initial assessment. Thugs work in packs, when in the big city I always CC, have a throw down wallet, rounds chamber, around my AO, same same.
I’ll just say this: do what’s comfortable for you, when you go to the range practice the mechanics…stay armed, and safe.

One of the interesting facts that local NOLA TV’s reporting in light of the floods is that the state/city estimates that only 39% of homeowners in the city have flood insurance. Folks with mortgages are required by the mortgage holder to have it but those who own their homes are not.
You can expect that, even after the billions of tax dollars poured into flood protection post-K, there’ll be yet another flood at some point and guess who’ll pick up the bill?

Yup, they’re all over the news here and have been for days. They use Facebook to stay in contact and, as they say, were formed in response to the miserable response during Katrina.
During Katrina the city’s primary response flotilla had, shall we say, some response problems. Ad hoc teams and individuals did many, if not most, of the rescues with FEMA preventing rescuers from entering the city to assist in the rescue efforts. The Cajun Navy has been there for sibsequent floods, generally deploying before government can. I’m curious as to whst would happen were FEMA to try and stop them from going into a flood zone and rescuing victims as FEMA did during Katrina.

That is something that always chaps my behind. I pay for insurance, I even now pay for earthquake insurance although I only had my house shake a few times and if I didn’t live on a hill I’d pay for flood insurance. Just don’t think it’s right I should have to pay for those who don’t pay for insurance.

I don’t know much about flood insurance, other than the requirement to have it if you have a mortgage and live in an area that can flood. Do the $$ people pay for flood insurance get used for anything other than the repair/replacement of damage done to the insured homes? I always thought that if you lived in a house in a flood plane and the waters came, being rescued from personal danger and given temporary shelter, food, etc. was one thing, and damage done to your property was another thing. If you didn’t have flood insurance and your house was destroyed, you were on your own when it came to the damage done. Does FEMA give money to people to make repairs to their homes?

Generally the flood insurance covers damage from the waters running along the ground. Waters falling from the sky, until they hit and accumulate on the ground, are covered under water damages in your homeowners policy. The flood policies generally cover damages to your home and contents though you can get policies that only cover damages to your home itself. Damages to the home generally cover repair up to the home’s value or replacement and your premiums are generally based on your home’s value, your deductables and what your address’s chances of flooding are. Them’s the bare basics.
In truth you’re gonna end up fighting like hell with insurance adjusters specifically brought in from out of state who are frequently paid/rewarded by how much money they save the insurance company, i.e. Money they don’t pay you. There were cases in court for years after Katrina.
FEMA pays the damaged government, what for and how much usually depends on how much political power the damaged area has. NOLA’s still getting Katrina money, I believe, for various projects while the county we now live in was nailed by a series of tornadoes and didn’t get anything. Monies flowed in to rebuild houses for a lot of folks who didn’t (and largely still don’t have) insurance, it came in from a lot of sources, much of it from governments. How much was FEMA I don’t know, and probably never will, shoving large amounts of barely accounted for money into anywhere in Louisiana, New Orleans especially, is like throwing raw bloody meat to a pack of wild weasels. Then again, that was the first time FEMA actually had to do the job it had trained for for decades so failure was to be expected.

So everything got so fogged up that probably even the bureaucrats couldn’t even keep it straight, and crooked, corrupt people managed to cash in on a disaster. I saw the acres of leftover FEMA trailers in several areas in the South, just one of the more visible examples of the huge mess. They threw money and resources around everywhere, with no accountability and horrible management. Insurance companies showed their true selves, and demonstrated that they can’t actually cover people’s losses when a large-scale catastrophe occurs. We pay insurance, knowing that we will probably have to fight tooth and nail to get compensation for a loss. Then we maintain our property and house, paying that insurance and never making a claim, while people who don’t bother to get insurance get taken care of by our tax dollars. I have no problem with suffering souls getting the emergency help they need from my tax dollars, but knowing that money was stolen, wasted, mishandled, and not used appropriately is crazy-making.

You almost always have to fight with insurance companies, whether fire, storms or floods.
I have a friend whose house burned several years ago, took over a year for the insurance company to pay for damages to the house and they fought for almost 10 years over contents. They made the mistake of trying to save some things in the house and the insurance company wanted to claim they saved more than they did. Since witnessing her experience I’ve always said I was going to throw things in and nothing out.
Took us 6 months once just over roof damage caused by a storm.
I know our last flood, some of those folks couldn’t get their homes insured due to how many times they’ve had flood damage. Some could get flood insurance, but didn’t want to pay for it. Others had flood insurance but it was canceled after two floods in one year. FEMA appears to have handed out the money in a hurry because I’ve had some of them brag about how much they got and heard others complain they didn’t get enough. For some reason I always thought they got FEMA money in tax credits, but none of them have said anything about tax credits.
Call me cold hearted but I didn’t make the choice to build a house next to the lake and next to the lake that is known to flood, so I don’t think all of you who live in other states should have to pay for their choice anymore than I think I should have to pay for their choice.

Just in case anyone wondered, here in the upper left corner of the lower 48… we are having a “HEAT WAVE” this weekend. The news is filled with warnings and cautions for how to survive the unsurvivable “HEAT WAVE”. For much of Friday and some of Saturday it will reach 90F!!!! Possibly even 92F. People are digging up their front lawns and dragging them into their living room to protect and conserve the local eco system from the harmful evil sun’s effects during the “HEAT WAVE”.

We’ve been getting rain every weekend, problem is not enough at our place to do any good, but enough at the track to cancel races 2 weeks in a row. lol
Supposed to be more moving in tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. I’m hoping it moves out by Saturday. It’s vet appreciation night and I like watching the planes fly over.

A few years back we had two storm fronts moving into our area the world stopped. Our local stations called it the storm of the century “a one two punch” that was going to knock us out.
Coverage went something like this. “The tip of punch number one is just touching our nose. Punch one is now a body blow. We are still in phase one of the fight and we are ducking and weaving but we are still getting pummeled.
RUN RUN RUN and get your snow blowers, your shovels your kitchen spoons and get those driveways and side walks cleared! We are down but we can get up and out before the the second punch comes!
(During this time we were reminded not to die while shoveling snow, we given advice equivalent to not balancing a sharp knife on our left eyeball whilst shoveling the white beast so we wouldn’t put out an eye before we died of a heart attack while shoveling, thus I can only assume the latter advice was only to make less work for the coroner
Also while us plebs might think it a brilliant idea PLEASE don’t go out naked or wear flip flops while shoveling!
Then the second punch of the one two storm came and we were chastised for not taking care of the first round if we had not already done so.
More dire warnings about roofs collapsing (none did) small animals and children being in mortal danger of dying as they could get buried in the snow (none did) and warned again how we were likely to die while shoveling if we had not moved since the last Fourth of July.
But. That was mild in comparison to the histrionics when Bret Favre retired for the last time from the Packers. Grown reporters acted as if their mums had died. Teachers wept in classrooms and told children that they didn’t have to finish their tests because they understood what an emotional toll Favre’s retirement was taking on their minds.

I feel your pain, local news talking-heads who lived and were skooled in desert environments are always on the TV telling those of us who’ve lived here longer than they’ve been on the planet how to deal with heavy rains. During these new floods they constantly remind us that we should be aware and stay out of the water (hellllloooooo, it’s a FLOOD!) as there ate fish and animals in it. My fave was when a talking head said that and in the background there was a small herd of cows up to their hocks in water. Those cows can be dangerous if they catch you in the water and attack….
BTW, I drive through Farve’s hometown weekly picking up the GGS… Brees is the big thing here, if he retires we’ll have an official period of mourning mandated.

The sky is falling news crews are just nuts. They couldn’t save their own butts from any real danger.
I was never a Favre fan, born and raised a Bears fan, now that I live in WI I do hope for a Packers win against anyone but the Bears. But a really beautiful trick when you are cornered by a boor at a social function is to talk about how disgusting Favre’s extracurricular activities were. The boor walks away in a bewildered huff 😀

Most Wisconsinites think Bret walks on water. Since I’ve never had a sports hero I find it bizarre. People really like Aaron though which is good I guess as it alleviates some of the lamenting about Favre?

Same here, I find no reason to worship someone for doing something I don’t when I could soend that time and energy working on making myself better.

My greater concern up here in the “upper left corner” is the nasty winds that are coming into my area tomorrow. We are in the middle of harvest. A fire starting tomorrow could be really bad news. In your territory ain’t the possibility of death, destruction and fungal itch usually blamed on Mt Rainier? We see blurbs on how it can blow any minute and destroy the home of Starbucks and Microsoft…we hear there are negative impacts too.
On the eastern side ain’t the super volcano under Yellowstone the bugaboo? If it blows it takes out a number of FX network filming sites and quite possibly Ted Turner. Again, we hear it could also have negative effects.

We hear about volcanos, earthquakes, and tsunamis for about a week each once a year, then they focus on the burning orb in the sky causing problems like income inequality, homelessness and too many HB1 visa tech workers.

Lamp oil soot blackened bee’s wax slate/tablets were used until about 700 years ago. Cursive handwriting was used on them as a way to write without gouging the wax.
About 700 years ago, cloth paper books/pamphlets became more common.
Books as we think of them and printing presses existed 2000 years ago, just not movable type (that we know of).

Again, myself!!! I know this house would look better with 2 walls out and reconfigured bathrooms but, alas, that would take more $$$$$$ than this little house would get back. Assuming I even know how to do that. Which I don’t. 😀

I have a huge master bathroom with a lot of floor space. I beg all the time to reconfigure it so there isn’t so much wasted space, but the best I got was new paint. lol

Whoot! Facebk just informed me a diehard, and I mean die hard #nevertrump-gonna-vote-my-conscience-Cruz-writein, fb “friend” who is a preacher likes Mike Pence. That means he liked Pence’s page, something even I have not done yet (shame on me). Sure, maybe he “liked” to get the feeds from Pence but he is a man of conviction, if you get my drift, to “lie” about liking just to get posts or to mislead others that look to him for direction by falsely liking a page. This is progress.

After the state’s revelation that New Orleans, which was hi and dry in this flood, only has 39% of its homeowners flood insured the state revealed that the city of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area which did heavily flood only has some 19% of the homeowners flood insured.
Many of the noninsured are complaining that they never flooded before and/or were told they weren’t in a flood zone. Quite true, they weren’t in a flood zone per se BUT all that means is their chances of flooding are not as great as if they were in a flood zone but are no where near zero. They heard what they wanted to and made the cheaper decision, they got hit on this roll of the dice. Granted, there are folks out there who really can’t afford it but there are a lot of homes being shown flooded that should be able to have bought it.
We’re being told that the max FEMA may hand out to the uninsured is about $33k but the average will be somewhere arounf $7500. There are gonna be a lot of folks hard pressed soon, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
