Good morning everyone and good night. I haven’t been getting much sleep lately. We are in full blown fire season here and it was really ugly today. Multiple new large fires in Eastern Washington. My area looks good for now.

I had to evacuate once. They only gave me 10 minutes. Now, in May, I pack the back of my pick up with all my camping gear, spare clothes, hygiene products, cases of water and all my pet supplies. All important documents are on flash drives along with a picture file of all house and shop inventory. I won’t be caught flat footed again.

I feel for you, it’s scary when fire is coming after you. We don’t have a fire season, but we went through it once and we were given no warning, as a matter of fact we weren’t told anything and didn’t know anything until our son came in and told us there was smoke and fire.
Then when we tried to leave the firefighters kept telling us we couldn’t go that way or this way. Fire now scares me and it’s not really something you can plan for when you don’t know which way it will spread.

I actually have four ways out of my driveway that I can take. I have scouted all four in case I need to change my original escape route.

We got extremely lucky, one of the few for about 20 miles or so and our house was saved. Several lost everything.

Thank you. All quite today. It is going back up to the 90’s starting tomorrow and harvest is in full swing. A lot of the fires happen this time of year. The straw from the wheat is nothing but dry tinder.

If Trump does not start his first term in office next year for any reason. I can easily imagine they’ll start arresting Trump supporters and only release them after they’ve proven they are not a danger to progressive society. 20 years in Siberian style work camps aught to be long enough for a determination.

Ahhhh….one of those small joys of summer, a salad made with fresh, crunchy cucumbers and fat, juicy tomatoes right out of the garden. Next, same salad but with fresh lettuce and chunks of bacon.

I am having a really great salad right now too although mine did not come from my own garden. It’s still really good though. I have a half dozen or so vegetables in it, along with pumpkins seeds, dried cranberries, and ham. Yum. For dessert a Georgia peach smoothie, then off to work.

Salads are great, but a Georgia peach smoothie? To die for, even without ice cream! You’ve got me drooling here, Menagerie. Cruel. You should see the pathetic, woody, wrinkled things that pass for peaches in Alaska. No juice and no smell. (I know, I know; I’ve had 18 years to move out of this state, and yet here I am.)

I sure am enjoying them. Normally I throw in 2 or 3 fruits and 2 or more vegetables, hemp seeds, ground flax seeds, ice, and a little honey and apple cider vinegar, along with Greek yogurt if I want creamier so taste. With the peaches I leave out all the other fruits and vegetables and just treat myself to the delicious freshness.

Lol! If any of you have been able to actually sustain the daily habit of flossing your teeth, and if this article is true, prepare for shock. On Drudge this morning:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/02/dental-floss-proof-works-guidelines-dropped
From the article:
“One review conducted last year said: ‘The majority of available studies fail to demonstrate that flossing is generally effective in plaque removal.’ ”
There’s more than just this one line though. The article also states the U.S. government has “quietly dropped” its recommendations for flossing. If you are curious about when flossing began, read to the end, since it apparently goes back to the early 1800’s. Who knew that??
I kept trying to make flossing into a habit and never really succeeded. I would do it in phases, usually after my dental cleaning, when the dentist would ask me, then give me the lecture. I do remember that I kept it up for months once, and when I went to the dentist for my cleaning, the dentist told me to not floss so hard because I was scoring lines onto my teeth. That may have been the last time I really worked at it. Haha! Another thing I can stop feeling guilty about not doing.

I read this yesterday and laughed. If you read the heath books from over 140 years ago, flossing was to remove food from between your teeth to help your breath not be stinky and to be polite to people you were speaking with. The whole plaque removal reason/marketing was invented much later that started with pepsodent.

Ummmmm…..noticing my third article this AM about the possibility of Trump dropping out. Possibility seems to be fueled by Trump’s inability to parse his phrasing so that MSM and their entertainment lackeys can’t use his words against him…at least as effectively… and the RNC pinching off the money hose.
It seems that the RNC has agreed to throw the election, not support the people’s candidate, destroy the party and perhaps the country. I wonder what they were promised for the trade and hope to be there when the Rats stiff them.

And then I saw Trump changed his profile picture.

Joyce Barnaby: Here’s to our holiday.
DCI Tom Barnaby: Joyce, looks as if these people are sitting on top of an elephant.

Old Heinz was a modern day truck farmer who would sell his produce grown outside of Pittsburgh. He perfected the canning process, and ketchup was the leftovers from his canned tomatoes/sauce. Yes Tex he was a redneck, his son’s built the Heinz company.

I think that’s a different kind of grinder. The kind I have has a hopper in the top, and a screw that feeds the food through a die. It’s rather coarse, rather than the grind you would need for grain or coffee.

We have one that we attached to an old school desk, then you can either put the desk on a table or sometimes I just bend over and grind the meat. It’s not always the easiest thing in the world to do and the electric grinder works much better, especially if you got a lot of grinding to do.
For smaller jobs though the hand crank is just as easy.

Big thing on the political panic agenda is the Zika virus. Panic in the streets, dogs having coffee with cats at Starbucks, martinet pols standing firmly in the doorways between us and the bloodthirsty ( really, huh?) mosquitoes.
News and pols announce, just barely without a trumpet fanfare, they’ve found (after diligent and sweat soaked testing) the mosquito in our area that carries Zita! All good and well except the mosquito they went out and discovered is the same old yellow fever mosquito that was here before people were and is the subject of regular fluff and filler news pieces. What’s next, scientists and pols will launch a study and discover New Orleans is hot and humid in August?
The pols are responding by initiating a sledgehammer program of sggressive ground and air spraying of insecticides. No word on the impact on non-targeted insects such as the few remaining wild bees in the city, migrating butterflies, all of that. No word on any program that would deal with water collected in the stubs of the fronds on the many palm trees in the city. Lotta BS, smoke and mirrors, but then what’s new?
