Wow, I would never have known it was him. I don’t know a lot about his personal life. It looks like he must have had a lot of hard times, and in my mind, also, he’s always looked more or less like the older version. That song about “how time slips away” was one that I always felt the poignancy and sweet sort of sadness when I would hear it. Did he write that?
Well, yes, I believe he did. Have you ever seen a list of the songs he wrote? I tried to make a list of them all and it took many sheets of yellow legal paper to do it and I got tired of writing. I couldn’t believe all the songs I knew that he had written.
No I never knew how many songs he wrote. I have liked some of his music, but never followed him closely. Other than my fascination with the Beatles when I was 16, which lasted for a few years, I love music but I just never pay a lot of attention to the lives of the artists. Your question made me stop and realize this.
Late in his life, I found out my father loved music, most music (rap crap, as he called it, was excluded). He listened to Christian music, opera, violin, flute, just about anything. I knew he liked Country music, but, I was floored when I found out he was a huge Willie Nelson fan. He didn’t like his scruffy look, but loved his voice. He told me about all the songs Willie had written back in the early years and I looked them up. So many hit songs were on that list. Then, at some point he started playing and singing his own.
Yes, and as you read the list, see how many songs you recognize. A lot of them were in the 40’s and 50’s, I think, but they were hits for other singers.
I’m good with that. 🙂

Not exactly a party song but I have always thought that Willie Nelson was born looking like he does today 🙂

I can’t list them all here, but there is a list, 337, at wikipedia:
