Good morning everyone! That looks like Holland. I love Tulips. We are supposed to have a frost tonight, wind is howling. I knew not to put my tomatoes out yet! I’m worried about my fig bush though. It’s too big to cover up!

Apparently, AZ has that new strain of “Americanized honey bees”.

Honey bees don’t attack, especially when they are swarming – which is looking for a new home. They stay together in a clump. My cousins have bees, and rescue swarms, and our neighbor when I was in grade school kept bees. I went with him to rescue a swarm, and I didn’t wear any protection at all.

We’ll ignore the Africanized bees which bee prone to unprovoked violence…
Generally honey bees won’t gratuitously attack but if you go over and mess with a hive, especially when they’re actively packing in honey, and you’ll bee meeting new friends. We had a ‘hive’ that was built in a broken magnolia at our NOLA property. One of the neighbors saw the bees and thought he could snatch sone free honey. He was warned but pooh-poohed their concerns ( sorry, couldn’t resist) and got stung more times than the Louisiana electorate under Jindal.
You’re right about a swarm being fairly docile but I wouldn’t trust that it didn’t contain those Africanized American bees.

A cousin of my husband’s down in Texas almost died from African bees. He thought they were just honey bees until he got stung by hundreds of them. I’ve always heard that you can’t tell the difference with the naked eye, so I just leave them alone except for the times when I step on one barefoot.

About the only way you can tell is when hundreds, if not thousands, swarm out to attack you and follow you to the ends of the earth to sting the crap out of you. So fsr we haven’t had any around here but we have a couple of guys who move their hives to fields/farms to commercially pollenate crops. Can’t help but sweat they’ll bring back a gift that will keep on giving.

There are many around here these days who keep hives. I’m always hoping they don’t attract evil guests. lol

Almost forgot, aside from the queen the swarm considts of drones. Drones have no stingers and no pockets to carry pistols, their only job is to try and fertilize the queen. Sorta like closing time at the neighborhood bar…

I know honey bees.
I was phobic until my dad took it up as a hobby. Just one hive.
I’ve had too many bad experiences with wasps and yellow-jacket hornets though.
Esoteric joke, but still just a joke. Americanized ones would do this, though.
Because they love this country.
After attacking the mosque, they’d go pollinate tulip fields in Holland, MI.
It’s just a three-hour beeline (heh) from Dearborn, home of the 100 dB Adhan.

Speaking of bees, I recently read a very interesting but horrendous story. A small hotel in Chicago, near where we usually stay, had some honey bee houses in the back of the hotel. Owned by the hotel chef, he used the honey for cooking famous specialties and they sold a few jars of the honey in the gift shop. I don’t remember how long the houses had been there, many years, but some evil, mean, worthless idiot(s) sprayed them with pesticide one night. 😦
The good news is they were able to save many queen bees, secure the area in its original place and the honey process is continuing. 🙂
I’ve learned a lot reading yall’s comments! Thx.

What saves me from this “personal trauma/drama” HA, is knowing the comments will roll down the page and be forgotten soon.

It isn’t the “meanness” of the new type of visitor, but their political and social views. The first two who were put on the black list today were in favor of abortion for the blacks, as a means of decreasing the population – otherwise known as eugenics. The third one posted an antisemitic YouTube video. One of the “eugenics” proponents told me that the social views of conservatives are what turns off so many people. No thanks.

I heard Reince talking about the convention. I believe at this point they have an emerging strategy.
My best guess is that they are losing a lot in donations and even the dull Reince realizes although they prefer Clinton to Trump, Clinton is very likely to stab them in the back and twist the knife until the RNC GOP is in almost as a precarious position sit would be with a Trump presidency. She will promise them quid pro quo but once she is in power she will do everything she can to woo the GOP/RNC grey train into her depot.
If Reince Inc. spits on Trump and Trump supporters he knows that the RNC/GOP is left with a party that has been hit by a nuclear bomb, the restructuring and rebuilding will take generations and where can one find 30 pieces of silver to beg when one has nothing to offer in return?
Reince mentioned as an aside that not only is the presidential nominee chosen at the convention so is the vice presidential nominee in a separate vote this in my opinion is what the deal is going to be, an attempt to saddle Trump with a bastard VP nominee. Likely that is a lot of what his chat with Trump was about, likely Trump was like I’ll entertain a Ryan or Cruz VP whilst inwardly chuckling at the absurdity of the idea.
My two cents.

Illegal labor: Why Ted Cruz may beat Donald Trump in Wisconsin
http://www.examiner.com/article/illegal-labor-why-ted-cruz-may-beat-donald-trump-wisconsin
Illegal labor is the profit lifeline that has Wisconsin dairy farmers alarmed about Donald Trump. They fear Trump will deport and cut off their labor source and the issue may swing the dairy vote to Ted Cruz. Over 85,000 illegals and their families are living and working in Wisconsin, mostly “tending cows.” On Friday, after speaking to Wisconsin farmers at the 56th annual WPS Farm Show, a FOX Business reporter who was discussing their new poll showing Ted Cruz ahead of Donald Trump in Wisconsin, nodded knowingly as he shared the top issue to Wisconsin dairy farmers is “immigrant labor.” Wisconsin is known for dairy products.
I wonder. They could always vote Democrat, and not have to worry.

I’m beginning to suspect many people that say they are Christian “conservative” don’t actually know what that means. When it comes to things that have a direct impact to them, they pick socialist things and claim it’s capitalism.

WI has about 10,000 dairy farms. I don’t know how many communities are built and subsist on the dairy farm industry but it is a large voting block. It will be interesting to see where they cast their vote. I am hopeful that their patriotism outweighs their pocketbook and that they are capable of a longer vision than next years cost of milking a cow. I was under the impression that most dairy farms use milking machines so I’ll have to do some research.
I think I will drive by one of the local farms in the are and see if they have any signs up. The only strong opinions I am hearing is that SE WI is tipping toward Cruz everyplace else is strongly Trump. I did drive by a huge dairy farm on the way to Trump’s Janesville rally, (it may have even been in Janesville) and they had no signs up. In fact there are very very few political signs up anywhere in WI.
The dairy farms seem to be scattered mainly across Eastern WI so half are in Trump friendly WI and half are in Cruz friendly WI.

Lots more stuff to do than milking s cow, ain’t easy, gets downright dirty and playing caretaker to a dairy don’t pay all that much.
We have lots of kids leaving ranches and farms for the more fun big city, that leaves agibg ranchers/farmers with a labor shortage.
We also have a lot of blueberry farms that need labor and the only labor they can reliably get at a realistic price are the professional migrants. They use the same ones year-to-year, many have winter jobs on farms in southern Texas or the Caribbean, it’s a czreer. Guarantee that if it weren’t for them you wouldn’t see blueberrys for sale at less than laughable prices.
It’s a real problem, profit margins on dairies ain’t all that great and the subsidies keep more than one farmer from going under. One local dairy has gone boutique offering whole and almost-whole milk, real cream and custom cheeses but the threat of USDA bureaucrats making their life untenable is always hanging over them. Many of thes farms are one farmer dying away from becoming housing developments when the NOK sell them off to finance their city lives.

Ted Cruz And The Wall Street Connection
http://dailycaller.com/2016/04/01/ted-cruz-and-the-wall-street-connection/
It was disturbing enough when Senator Ted Cruz announced that Neil Bush, brother of Jeb and George W., would be a Finance Chairman of his campaign.
Neil defrauded U.S. taxpayers out of $1.5 billion dollars in a savings and loan scam. Now however, Cruz has announced a key appointment that should disturb voters even more.
Cruz named Former Texas Senator Phil Gramm as his economic guru. This guy virtually crashed the U.S. economy. Gramm is largely responsible for two bills which led to the speculative bubble which popped in September 2008. First was his Gramm-Leach-Bliley bill that repealed Glass Steagall, which separated investment banking from commercial banking. Its repeal — which was signed into law by President Clinton, with the backing of Robert Rubin and Larry Summers — opened the door for a flood of money, from commercial banks, to flow into mortgage-backed securities and other funny-money schemes, which blew up in 2008. ….
Phil Gramm is now an official at UBS, the Swiss bank which has been under fire for its protection of tax-cheating U.S. corporations and the upper echelon of financial speculators. Gramm would be the architect of the Cruz economic model, great for Wall Street but no so hot for American taxpayers.

I absolutely detest the Gramms and what they have done to Texas. His wife, Wendy, was on the board at Enron. When Enron fiasco happened, my parents, along with many elderly people here in west Texas, completely lost any life-savings investments at Enron. Meanwhile, Phil Gramm quietly slivers away & leaves his seat while this is going on.
Now what is surprising to me. is to learn (above) that Gramm is with UBS. This is where MY money (not much, HA) is invested. I am closing the account tomorrow.

Very fitting as I am in a prolonged e-mail debate on same subject with a good friend in Vancouver. Good points being made, and really airs out both sides. The Canadians do have a greater level of decorum in this setting than I have seen in any of our GOP debates.

Well put point.
Not even their chosen front-runners “attacked” or criticized Obama in either ’07/08 or ’11/12. Let alone their punditry and their spokespeople. It was kid gloves the whole time. Silk gloves, even.

It’s almost like it didn’t really matter to them who won so long as their place at the trough remained accessible to them.

Woo Hoo! 120 feet of tomater row in, tilled, fertilized, planted and ready for drop hose and mulch. Not bad fer an afternoon and I still have to drop the GGS off at his mom’s. Drinks on the porch with Haggard playin’ in the background to look forward to.

Couldn’t resist, was seven plants short of a full row so on the way back from dropping the GGS off I bought them and put ’em in soon as I got back. Also set fire to a large brush pile as the winds die down at sunset. The outside volunteer cat once agiain saw a fire starting, ran out and jumped on the tractor fender, about fifteen feet away, to meatloaf down and watch the fire. Don’t know what it is about farm pets and fires but ours are about one box of matches and and an opposable thumb away from being pyromaniacs.

To “meatloaf down”.
A way with words, you have.

Willie Nelson is going to be at SummerFest in Milwaukee. He gave up smoking and drinking for a brief period in his life it was just before he recorded his Mendocino County Line CD and he lost a lot of the gravel in his voice. I loved his smoother voice, but apparently a lot of people did not.

I have a lot of his albums and his voice, to me, matches the song to the time. I psrticilarly like hom paired with Haggard.

I still find it hard to believe that my father loved Willie Nelson’s singing. He didn’t like his scruffy appearance, though.

Already touching 80 here, mid-50s at night, so the tomatoes and peppers can get their feet in before the real heat sets in. Just great to be done with winter and see things growing again.

Our tulips and daffodils will bloom in a week if we’re lucky.

Sorry, close as I could get to a Swiss gardening song. BTW, I had a roommate in the military who was obsessed with this song as played/sang it endlessly. One of the reasons I volunteered for Vietnam.
Our daffodils are come and gone but we have various irises that are just warming up in the bullpen.

If I were within striking range, I would have already smacked you upside the head for even thinking this is “Swiss”. It’s Austrian, seen through the eys of Hollywood. Grrrrrrr…. 🙂

Excellent. I used to play trumpet in high school. A few years ago, as part of a company event, we had and Alp horn group entertain for a bit. They brough extra mouthpieces for guests to try. I was the last one. I practically shattered windows in a 10 miles radius. The leader of the Alp horn group is still houding me to join them! (no time, no place to practice)

Grrrrr. Swiss do not wear lederhosen. Germans and Austrians do. The edelweiss is the unofficial flower, but it’s not the imported kitsch version from Hollywood/Vienna.

Hit a nerve, did we? Over around Graubunden and St Gallen soneone’s probably got a pair of those pinishment panrs in their regional costume drawer, the Austro-Hungarians were so keen on sharing. Lemme look, I may have a version of Edelweiss done by David Bowie with an oompah accompaniment.

Truth, love, and beauty are making a comeback in music right now.
The grunge, hatred, sickness, and ugliness in music from the late 1980’s to the early 2000’s has been rejected by this new renaissance.
I could list 30 bands or solo artists right now who are singing about truth, love and beauty, and not all that garbage. It is these artists who (if we survive) will be played a hundred years hence. And nobody then will even know who Soundgarden and Nirvana and Alanis Morrisette were. Beatles wrote love songs. Van Morrison wrote love songs. They still play in mass media. In fifty years, todays mostly alternative underground hits by Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, highasakite, Of Monsters and Men, Sam Smith, (and many, many more artists) will still be played — because they exhibit a love for truth, love, and beauty.

The whole kitchen heard this today, with Pandora as the audio source, and Alabama Shakes as the station seed. Everyone in the kitchen thought it was really Michael Jackson.
It was Cheryl Crow. This video should be presented under “uncanny” in the OED online edition.
I ran downstairs to look at the Ipad connected to the kitchen’s stereo, ran back up, and nobody believed me when I told them it was this one-sheet-of-teepee-using lefty singer.
Say what you will about Cheryl, or about our Thug Thizzle Preezy, but this lady absolutely nails it.

Welllll, how ’bout dat? DEA fonally has the Administration permission to announce publicly and with attribution that the fentanyl that’s killing re ord number of abusers is not only coming in to the US from cartel deaers in Mexico but is made in China. Now if the Administration would say that the Chinese governmentbknows damned good and well what’s going on, you just don’t make and ‘lose’ a few million doses of a narcotic that powerful, and that the Chinese are knowingly making money off of the illegal sales………OK, baby steps.
